GOVERNORS REPORT TO PARENTS RE: PARENTAL SURVEY Many thanks to those parents who completed our survey at the last Termly Learning Review evening. It’s really important that we understand how you feel about the way the school operates and getting your honest viewpoint helps us to identify where we need to focus our efforts in making future improvements. We received a total of 110 completed surveys with 9 questions on each – a total of 990 questions, the response to 958 of them was ‘strongly agree’ or ‘agree’ – a very positive response. Thank you. The areas we scored highest in were for the school being welcoming, staff working hard to support children, school values and children being well cared for. Areas where average scores were marginally lower were around the behaviour of children, valuing children’s views and opinions and dealing with concerns effectively. Whilst these areas still had a predominantly positive response we see an opportunity to improve here and will be looking at what interventions we can make next term – please do let us know if you have any ideas. Some parents raised very specific concerns relating to their child – where you included your name on the survey, Mrs Barnshaw may already have or will follow up with you individually to discuss a resolution. One of the suggestions made by a small number of parents was that more homework should be given to children, although we know from other conversations with parents that this would not be universally appreciated! If you do wish to do additional work with your child there are learning opportunities for children through the Mathletics and Spellodrome websites which is accessible to all children at home. Home reading is essential for all children to improve reading and thinking skills. Class teachers will also be happy to provide further suggestions of things you can do with your child at home. Here are a couple of your comments about what you feel we do well: ‘Teaches my child to value all members of society and the world around them; community and communication are excellent.’ ‘Involving parents in phonics teaching; very helpful.’ Our aim is that parents feel that they can talk to us at any time if you have any concerns or ideas, please don’t wait for the next questionnaire! If you don’t feel that you can speak to a member of staff any of the School
