General scope The Governmental Coordination and Crisis Centre has been established to assist the federal government in the planning and interdepartmental management of crises and major events.
Definition A crisis is defined as an event that by its nature or its consequences:
– constitutes a threat to vital national interests or to the essential needs of the population;
– prompts rapid decision making;– demands coordination between different departments and
organisms
Who are we?

Risk analysis and emergency planning Evaluation of the current news of the whole world in order to
assess the possible impact on the Belgian territory 24h/24 on duty and continuous monitoring in collaboration with
the police and information services Planning, coordination and follow-up of major events (events at
risk) Infrastructure and organisation for crisis management Security of personalities and institutions in Belgium, including
foreigners, embassies, consulates and international institutions National and international alarm network focal point
Tasks

The Governmental Coordination and Crisis Centre is the international focal point within the alert networks:
Ecurie (Nuclear alert system) BICHAT (Biological and Chemicals Attacks and Threats) IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) MIC (Monitoring and Information Centre - European Union) EMSC (European Mediterranean Seismological Centre) Helsinki Convention on the transboundary effects in industry

Organisation and coordination of emergency planning and cooperation with the authorities involved
Drawing up of cooperation procedures with other departments and/or provincial, national and international institutions
Cooperation between the 5 disciplines (help and emergency services)
Development of crisis management know-how

Emergency plans for crisis events and situations that prompt coordination or management on national level.(R.D. 31/01/2003, M.D. 21/02/2003)
Ensures:• Well-founded decision taking based on the assessment of the situation• Coordination of the means to use• Information to the public• Contacts with foreign countries as well as with European and international organisations.

In collaboration with the Interministerial Influenza Coordination Committee, a national emergency plan is prepared that includes all necessary federal departments and actors involved in the crisis :
