Government passes an Emergency Ordinance on tax amnesty

The Romanian Government passed on a meeting from October 14 an Emergency Ordinance

on tax amnesty that cancels several penalties for overdue debts to the state budget. The

legislation refers to debtors, ho have debts, unpaid tax, outstanding by !eptember "#, $#1%

to the &ational Tax 'dministration 'gency ('&')*.

+n order to benefit from tax amnesty, debtors need to settle by arch "1, $#1- all the

principal debt oed to the general consolidated budget on !eptember "#, $#1%. oreover,

taxpayers ho pay 4%./ of the interests on overdue debts by 0une "#, $#1- get the other

%4.$/ of the interest cancelled. The facilities are applicable eually to individuals,companies, public bodies and other legal persons and to entities ithout legal personality.

'pplications are accepted until 0une "#, $#1- at all the tax administration units.

The government also mentioned that the ne Tax 2rocedure 3ode applicable from 0anuary 1,

$#1- loers the interest on overdue debts from #.#" percent per day to #.#$ pct per day, and

penalties for delayed payments are reduced from the current #.#$ pct per day to #.#1 pct per

day.
