Introduction

Government organizations play a very important role in society. Social development

has ranked high on the priority list of Government programmes since Independence,

and in collaboration with voluntary organizations they have been important partners

in dealing with social problems that exist at the community level. Government

organizations, in collaboration with autonomous organizations, have provided

funding, undertaken pioneering work in many areas, formulated policies for many

newly emerging social problems, provided training to functionaries of voluntary

organizations and other stakeholders, prepared IEC material and manuals, and

evaluated the outcomes of many Government programmes for the under privileged.

A Project was undertaken by Documentation Centre for Women and Children

(DCWC), NIPCCD to bring out Directories of Organizations working in many areas.

This document covers Government organizations working for the empowerment of

women, children, and various vulnerable groups in rural areas. For the convenience

of users, departments in the Directory have been arranged alphabetically state-wise.

This Directory gives detailed information about departments in States and

Union Territories and their activities, including postal address, telephone, fax,

website, e-mail address, and key words indicating their areas of work and activities.

It has been possible to bring out this document due to the extensive

cooperation extended by state departments that have shared the relevant information

with us. Without their support it would not have been possible to bring out this

compilation.

It is hoped that this document would be useful to all stakeholders working for

the empowerment of vulnerable sections of society.
