4. AUTONOMY FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
University Grants Commission always motivates the colleges with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC to opt for Autonomy. In order to meet the excellence in higher education the college has taken initiative to march towards autonomy. The autonomous status is received on the basis of academic reputation, performance of the college in university examinations, curricular, co-curricular, extension activities, achievements of the faculty, quality and merit of students and teachers, adequacy of infrastructure, institutional management, financial resources, involvement of faculty in innovative reforms. Autonomy improves the quality of higher education by offering the academic freedom to the affiliated colleges. The university with its common system and uniform rules and regulations for all affiliating colleges makes it difficult to meet the varied needs of all the colleges. To meet the excellence in the higher education system it needs to offer academic flexibility to colleges in order to cope up with the local conditions. The autonomous college has its own Governing Body, Academic Council, Board of Studies and Finance Committee along with the other statutory and academic committees.
