Gout Symptoms
![Page 2: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
Gout symptoms often follow a similar pattern
![Page 3: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Inflammation and pain in the big toe joint of one foot.
![Page 4: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Pain comes on rapidly, often overnight, and then eases off over a period of days.
![Page 5: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
The pain is excruciating. Even the weight of a bedsheet can be too much to bear.
![Page 6: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Gout sufferers may find the only relief is to hang their foot outside of the bed.
![Page 7: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Even the slightest movement of the joint will be incredibly painful.
![Page 8: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
There will be limited movement in the affected joint.
![Page 9: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Along with swelling and pain, the skin will stretch and maybecome itchy.
![Page 10: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
The big toe is not the only joint that can be affected by gout symptoms.
![Page 11: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Pain can appear in many joints, including fingers, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles and feet.
![Page 12: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Gout does not always present in the form of a painful attack.
![Page 13: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
In less acute gout attacks, the joint may feel warm and tender. It may be slightly red.
![Page 14: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
You may have ongoing joint pain which is otherwise unexplained.
![Page 15: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
This may resemble normal gout symptoms, but perhaps be less severe.
![Page 16: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Urate deposits (tophi) can show up in the ears as nodules,
even if the classic gout symptoms are not present.
![Page 17: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Tophi can also show up in the hands and fingers.
![Page 18: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Normally gout attacks will go away by themselves, and often stop within one or two weeks.
![Page 19: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
However even though the outward gout symptoms might have gone away, the cause is still there.
![Page 20: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Gout commonly returns to the same joint or even to another joint.
![Page 21: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
If gout is not managed, gout attacks can occur more often and last longer.
![Page 22: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
The problem compounds over time, even when gout symptoms aren't actually present.
![Page 23: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Ultimately the cause of gout symptoms is a build-up of uric acid crystals in the joint.
![Page 24: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Uric acid is a natural by-product of eating certain types of foods rich
in “purines”.
![Page 25: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
The body can end up with more uric acid than it can deal with.
![Page 26: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
When this happens uric acid crystals will form and start accumulating in the joints.
![Page 27: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
Unless the uric acid levels reduce, these crystals will keep forming
and keep accumulating
![Page 28: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
Eventually you reach the tipping point and gout symptoms become evident.
![Page 29: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Although you can relieve gout symptoms temporarily, the underlying problem is still present.
![Page 30: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
Eventually people with excess uric acid can develop chronic gout and joint damage can become permanent.
![Page 31: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
There are many forms of medication that can be taken to relieve gout symptoms and prevent
it coming back.
![Page 32: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
However these medications can have significant side effects
![Page 33: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
Such as diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and even stomach ulcers.
![Page 34: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
Gout can often be managed through knowing what to eat and knowing what not to eat.
![Page 35: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)
There are several gout remedies you can make yourself, using things you will already have in your house.
![Page 36: Gout Symptoms](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062303/556afb66d8b42a2a4f8b4be5/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)
Remember... Even when the pain and swelling is not present, the gout is still there and will come back!
