Nevertheless, the shelving gives anoverall impression of lightness, with sidesthat are open frameworks. Retain thatopenness, or develop its character in theenvironment you want to create. Youmay choose a uppright of frosted glass,for example. Or perforated steel, orwood.

You can have double-sided shel-ving that stands alone in the centre ofthe room. And exclusive edging of round,solid wood. No matter which accessoriesyou choose, you can create a functionalenvironment that is totally in tune withthe moment.

InsideGothia provided the rooms with exactly the character that the architect intended.

The personnel received all of the shelving functions that are required in a modern multimedia library. And the visitors received 13,000 m2 of longed-for

meeting space. Everything a questioning soul can desire can be found here. Books, CDs, DVDs and magazines. Computers equipped with multimedia,

self-service loans, facilities for the visually handicapped and for those with hearing disabilities, etc. The residents of Bologna can find total satisfaction here.

An open uppright, with no filler, is themost attractive alternative in many environments. It gives an open impressionand promotes attention to the books,magazines or CDs. Book supports placedat the ends are available as an option for open shelving solutions. The displayneeds of libraries are extensive, special and frequently changing. That is why wehave developed the widest range of shelving functions for storage and displaycurrently on the market. All functions canbe used with Gothia and with our othershelving systems.

Gothia is available in both a single-sided and a double-sided version. A single-sided shelf is suitable for placing against a wall, while adouble-sided shelf can be placed in the centreof the room, as shown in the photograph. The starter bay of a range of shelving has twouprights. It can be extended sideways byadding additional bays that contain only asingle upright.

The wooden edging along the frontof the uppright is available in several types of wood, and theedging can be stained. OutsideBologna, Italy – town of learning. So small, only 400,000 inhabitants,

but yet so rich in learning and culture. A quarter of the population study at the university. About the same number have a doctorate.

It is difficult to imagine Bologna without its Biblioteca Sala Borsa. It was built hundreds of years ago, on historic ground above a Roman forum.

It has been recently renovated with great care and with sensitive hands. We are proud that the architect chose our Gothia shelving.
