Purposes of the Feast

Israel being led through the wilderness by the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night.–Geographically–Morally

Israel’s anticipation of the Messiah to lead them out of darkness.

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12)

The Light explained

The Light is absolute truth

We are clueless…he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness…

We are clueless

Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know the difference between their right and left hand…(Jonah 4:14)

The Light obtained

…he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life (John 8:12b)

Humility

“I entered this world to render judgment—to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see

that they are blind.” (John 9:39)

Some Pharisees who were standing nearby heard him and asked, “Are you saying we’re blind?” (John 9:40)

“If you were blind, you wouldn’t be guilty,” Jesus replied. “But you remain guilty because you claim you can see. (John 9:41)

Faith

I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness (John 12:46)

The Light maintained

Constant exposure

…do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? (Matthew 6:25)

The Light maintained

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her…(Ephesians 5:25)

It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
