On-off pipeline valves

CLASSES AND RATES OF TRIM LEAKAGE

Introduction date – 2008 – 04 – 01

1 Scope of application This standard applies to all the types of on-off pipeline valves with nominal pressure PN from 0,1

MPa and sets standards for rates of trim leakage and classes of trim leakage as well as determines corresponding allowable leakages of test media and requirements for trim leakage tests within commissioning tests and other kinds of pipeline tests.

This standard does not apply to the valves designed and manufactured subject to a customer’s specific requirements with reference to particular service conditions.

This standard is allowed to be applied to other types of pipeline valves. This standard is suitable for the purposes of certification.

2 Standard references This standard uses a reference to the following standard: GOST 17433 – 80 Industrial purity. Compressed air. Pollution classes

N o t i c e – When applying this standard it is recommended to verify the validity of the standard references with help of the directory “National standards”, compiled as of January, 1 of the current year, and using corresponding informational directories, published during the current year. If a standard reference has been substituted (altered), one is to be guided by the substituting (altered) standard when applying this standard. If a reference standard has been repealed without a substitute, the provision containing a reference to it is to be applied to the extent of not containing this reference.

3 Terms and definitions The following terms with corresponding definitions are used in this standard: 3.1 on-off valves: Industrial pipeline valves meant for the shutoff of working media stream. 3.2 test media: Media leaking through a closed trim or valve joints and detected during control of trim leakage and tightness. 3.3 nominal pressure: maximum working overpressure at the working media temperature 20°C providing a specified service life of a valve with dimensions founded by strength analysis for chosen materials and their strength characteristics at the temperature of 20°C. 3.4 nominal diameter: A characteristic of joining parts, e.g. the joints of pipelines, fittings and valves. The nominal diameter does not have a unit measurement and it is approximately equivalent to the inner diameter (mm) of a joining pipeline. A nominal bore (a nominal diameter) is to be indicated as DN together with a numeric value, chosen from a row. 3.5 manufacturer: a company manufacturing valves and (or) carrying out tests. 3.6 trim: The system of a moving (a spindle, a disk etc) and a static (a seat) part of a valve blocking element, forming (an opened trim) an orifice or (a closed trim) a tight joint. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Official edition

GOST 9544 – 2005

3.7 trim tightness: A trim ability to prevent either a gas or a liquid exchange between the media separated by the trim. 3.8 trim leakage class: A trim characteristic estimating maximum allowable leakage of the test media through the trim. 3.9 leakage: An escape of the media from a leak-tight product through the leaks under the influence of total or partial pressure differential. 3.10 trim leakage test: A test estimating the trim tightness after its being effected by test media under pressure stated in standards, technical conditions (TC), design documentation (DD) for the valves. 3.11 trim leakage control: Technical control of test media trim leakage value conformance to a certain leakage class.

4 Requirements This standard determines: 4.1 Valve nominal pressures range from PN 1 up to PN 420. Nominal pressures are measured in kgf/cm². 4.2 Valve nominal diameters range in mm – from DN 3 up to DN 2000. 4.3 The following trim leakage classes are standard: A, B, C, D, B1, C1 and D1. 4.3.1 The developer is to indicate both the trim leakage class (see 3.7) and the test media (see 3.2) in standards, TC, DD for the valves. A n e x a m p l e of documental recording for trim leakage class C, the test media “air”: “The trim leakage class – C by GOST 9544 – 2005. The test media – “air” 4.3.2 For valves trims class A with nominal diameters from DN 3 up to DN 200 at nominal pressure from PN 1 up to PN 420 and with nominal diameters from DN 250 up to DN 2000 at nominal pressure from PN 1 up to PN 200 the following qualitative criterion of tightness is standard – the absence of visible leakage during retention interval. The test is performed either by air at pressure 6 kgf/cm² or by water at nominal pressure multiplied by 1,1. It is allowed to test valve trims with nominal diameters from DN 3 up to DN 200 by air at nominal pressure. The following does not represent rejection criteria of valve trims: - during a hydraulic test – dew gathering on a sealing surface profile which does not turn into flowing drips; - during a pneumatic test – generation of breaking loose bubbles. 4.4 The retention interval when controlling valve trim leakages for all leakage classes is to conform to the one shown in table 1. T a b l e 1

4.5 Allowable leakages for all types of on-off valves trims are shown: - test media “air”: for class B – in table 2, for class B1 – in table 3, for class C – in table 5, for class C1 – in table 6, for class D – in table 8, for class D1 – in tables 9; - test media “water”: for classes B, C, D and D1 – in table 11. 4.5.1 Allowable leakages shown in table 11 for classes B, C and D apply to valve trims with nominal diameters from DN 3 up to DN 200 at nominal pressures from PN 1 up to PN 420; and with nominal diameters from DN 250 up to DN 2000 at nominal pressures from PN 1 up to PN 200; for class D – with nominal diameters from DN 1 up to DN 2000 at nominal pressures from PN 1 up to PN 200. N o t i c e – Classes A, B, C and D – in [1]. 2

GOST 9544 – 2005

4.6 Allowable leakages for trims shown in tables 4, 7 and 10 apply to on-off and gate valves pneumatic test at pressure 6 kgf/cm². 4.7 Allowable leakages shown in tables 4, 7 and 10, apply to a trim closing force produced by a torque value Mkr which is calculated so that it provides unit pressure equal to one obtained during a test at nominal pressure on the sealing surfaces. Torque value Mkr is stated in DD and (or) in TC. 4.8 Test media pressure 4.8.1 Air pressure – by tables 2 – 10. A n e x a m p l e of documental recording for test media “air” at pressure 6 kgf/cm² (or at a nominal one): “Trim leakage class – C1, test media – “air” at pressure 6 kgf/cm² (or at a nominal one)” 4.8.2 Water pressure, kgf/cm², must correspond to a numeric value of a valve nominal pressure multiplied by 1,1. E.g. for a valve PN 100 the water pressure is to be 110 kgf/cm². 4.8.3 Pressure metering error - ±2%. 4.9 Test media 4.9.1 This standard regulates allowable leakages with the use of the following test media: air by GOST 17433, water by [2]. 4.9.2 At a manufacturer’s discretion it is allowed to use water and air by other norms or test media-substitutes, e.g. gas-nitrogen, providing that neither physical nor chemical properties of test media are deteriorated. In these cases the manufacturer guarantees the conformance of valve trims to leakage classes, stated in this standard. 4.9.3 It is allowed to use natural gas as test media during the test. During the test with the use of natural gas allowable leakages are to be equal to allowable leakages for air (tables 2 – 10) multiplied by 1,75. 4.9.4 The test media temperature during the test is to be 5°C - 40°C. 4.10 Trim leakage test is performed after closing of the valve blocking element as it is stipulated in TC for valves of a certain type. 4.11 Allowable leakages are stated in this standard for the conditions of fugitive emissions of the test media. Leakage metering error is to be no more than: ±0,01cm³/min – for leakages no more than 0,1cm³/min; ± 5% - for leakages over 0,1cm³/min. T a b l e 2 – Allowable trim leakages for test media “air”.
