It has been a whirlwind 12

months for Britain's hot

new boyband The Wanted.

A number one single, a

top five album and a

Comic Relief song are a

few things they can now

proudly boast on their CV.

So when Max George

asked Gossip if we

were available for a

quick catch-up, our hectic

diary was somehow

miraculously cleared...

Gossipexclusive:

Max is currently on his first UK tour withthe band, crooning hits such as HeartVacancy to millions of screaming teenagegirls around Britain. Although clearlyexhausted from his hectic schedule, it isobvious that the dreamy pin-up is relishingevery rip-roaring moment on the road - a drastic change in fortune for someonewho once considered giving up musicaltogether. At 16, the youngster was plying his tradefor football side Preston North End andwas offered a two-year contract.Deliberating long and hard, Max eventuallydecided to follow a career in pop, and thegirls have been swooning ever since. "I loved football and I loved singing but Icouldn't do both." Max revealed."Eventually I had to make a decision. It was being on stage that gave me thebiggest thrill so I picked music anddecided to go for it."

After an unsuccessful stint on the X-Factorand a brief spell with boyband Avenue, theenthusiastic singer battled through arigorous nine month audition circuit, making the cut for a new group puttogether by music mogul Jayne Collins.

Page 7: Gossip Monthly Magazine

Along with Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes, the talented five-some soon became known as "The Wanted".But even the name could have been different if theboys had listened to some very famous pals.

“Take That originally told us to change our name, laughed Max. They said it wouldn't catch on. We weregutted because we had all set up Twitter accounts andwere raring to go. Then we were getting told by the biggestband in Britain that we should change our name.

”"Getting number one was an unbelievablemoment" remembers the 22-year-old. "We gota call from Reggie (Yates) at Radio Oneand we just couldn't believe it. We werehoping top 40 and if we were lucky top 20,but to get to number one was an absolutedream come true."Sure enough, their self titled album "The Wanted" was a huge success, shooting tonumber four in the charts. More recently, their single "Gold Forever" was picked as the officialComic Relief song for 2011, something thismodest heart-throb is still immensely proud of.

7

Thankfully the boys stuck to their guns and therest, as they say, is history. In August 2010, theyscored their first ever number one with the single "All Time Low" and currently have a combinedtotal of around half a million followers on Twitter, not bad.

Page 8: Gossip Monthly Magazine

As well as being on a rollercoaster rideprofessionally, it has also been an eventfulyear in Max's personal life. Originallyenjoying his new found lothario status, thehell raiser has since settled down withCoronation Street actress Michelle Keegan(cue the inevitable heartbreak here atGossip HQ).But whilst one of Max's intoxicatingsmiles would have been enough to makeus and millions of adoring female fansgo weak at the knees (not to mentionhis unbelievable hotness, phwoar), it wasn't quite as easy to impress hisCorrie companion."I had to get my dad to ask her outfor me!" blushes Max."Michelle was someone I had always fanciedand wanted to ask out for ages."I was invited to Simon Gregson's weddingbut was touring at the time and I knew thatshe would be there. My dad was going so Isaid to him; 'Dad, if you meet MichelleKeegan, will you see if she is single. If she is,give her my number and tell her to text me.'He didn't get a chance at the actual wedding, but at the reception afterwardshe managed to get herattention.

8

“To be involved with Comic Reliefwas a proud moment for all the boys.I used to watch the show every yearand be so moved by some of thefootage on the TV. To feel like wewere involved and doing our bit was amazing.

Page 9: Gossip Monthly Magazine

"When he tried to give her my number she wasn'thaving any of it. She said that if I was interested toget in touch with her and then she gave my dad hermobile number. I was nervous but in the end I textand told her I was playing a KEY 103 gig inManchester and invited her and a friend along.Thankfully she turned up with her cousin andafterwards she came backstage to say hello andwe really hit it off."All the lads in the band get on with her great. Itreally helps that she is from Manchester. We havebeen dubbed a celebrity couple but with us it's justMax and Chelle from Manchester. She is everythingyou could want in a girl, smart, funny, humble - Iam a lucky bloke."Despite gushing about his new-found happiness,Max admits he is not thinking about moving in withthe 23-year-old beauty as he would miss his bandmates too much! (Aww!)He added: "We have no plans to get our ownplace. We are both so busy at the moment andare just taking things in our stride. I live with allthe lads from the band and it is great. We are allso close now, they are my best friends and weare like brothers. If anything, the longer we livetogether the closer we get, I'm really happywhere I am." For more news on Max and The Wanted follow us

"It's our first tour and we are all loving everyminute. The hours are really long for rehearsalsbut we have a great time every day. I am stillpinching myself that all this is actually happening.I am just trying to enjoy every single day as muchas I can."Obviously being on tour you miss your friends andfamily but we are so lucky to have this opportunity. We are all just embracing it and are determined toput on a good show for our fans. They have beenwith us from the start and it is amazing to be ableto give something back."As our interview draws to a close, we can't helpbut be impressed with Max's charm andexuberance, a refreshingly honest bloke and funnyto boot. With work already underway on theirsecond album, a US deal with American recordlabel Def Jam and a host of summer gigs pennedin, Max and the boys are sure to be everybody's"Most Wanted" sooner rather than later.

Whats the secret? For eyes and lips, chooseprimary colours that either contrast or clash andkeep blush to a minimum. Think Cartoon charactersand be inspired by Andy Warhol’s Marilyn. Most ofall experiment and have fun.

How to:-1. Apply base and translucent powder because it’s always

easier to blend strong eye colours over a powder base.

2. The main eye colours on the catwalk were turquoise, pink, lime and orange, but don’t limit yourself to those. You can start by using eyeliner along the top lash lineor black pencil round the eyes. But it looks really cool ifyou just stick to the colour on its own. A block of colouron the top lid looks great or experiment by taking it underthe lower lash line too. For maximum impact alwayscontrast eye shadow with iris colour.

3. You can finish with black mascara or amatching colour to the shadow- even better.

4. Lips should be a strong primary shade too.Orange is the colour of the moment but fuschiaand red work too. You need even, shapely lipsto carry this off. Unfortunately bright coloursemphasise imperfections and thin lips.

5. Keep blush to a minimum, choosing soft pastel shades.

6. If you are limited by time you could start the day withjust the lips and nails and the rest of face bare, then addeyes later. This ‘lip’ look was also a key theme on thecatwalk and is really easy to carry off.

The first three readers to sendthe correct answer to thefollowing question will receivea free make up session withLiz Collinge at the Andrew

Collinge Castle Street salon;-Q: Which catwalk shows featured the nudemakeup look for Spring/Summer 2011?You will be advised on the seasonal look that suitsyou and will then be given hints and tips on howto achieve the look.Send your answers to [email protected]

Nude

For the base-Shiseido perfect refining Foundation£34.00 Shiseido Translucent Pressed Powder £32.00.For subtle colours-Bobbi Brown is a good choice. Ourmodel wears eye colours in Toast £15.00, Shimmer BrickCompact in Beige £30.50 and Natural Brow Shaper inRich Brown £21.50. To finish the look Benefit Ultra Shinein Nudie-tude, £14.00 — it’s a gorgeous, girly gloss.

What to wear it with;Anything and everything.

Whats the secret? It’s all about looking fresh andradiant and not looking as if you are wearing muchmakeup. But no one wants to see a blemishedcomplexion so the trick is to artfully apply productsso that the effect is flawless yet natural.

How to:-1. Start by prepping the skin. This is the time of year to

revive skin by exfoliating. It would also be good to trya skin brightening moisturiser, which will reallyrejuvenate your skin.

2. Apply a lightweight foundation, concealer and highlighter.Fingers, sponges and foundation brushes are all fine forapplying your base but a dampened sponge will giveyou the most natural result. After concealer use a creamhighlighter on the top of the cheekbones and brows, for luminosity.

3. Eyebrows should be natural – (onlypluck stray hairs). Brush eyebrowsupwards to create a soft, youthfulshape. Enhance them by brushing ina little brow shaper.

4. Keep eyes subtle with a sweep of thesheerest ivory, beige, caramel orpeach shades. Use one coat of mascara andbrush through lashes to separate themafterwards.

5. For creamy, sophisticated lips, mix someconcealer with a peachy, nude or pinklipstick. If you are a fan of gloss choosea sheer, neutral colour.

Whats the secret? It’s a harder, edgier image that will getyou noticed. Smokey eyes are the basis of this look andyou need skill with makeup brushes and a little creativityto achieve this look.

How to:-1. Pale complexions work well with this look so keep

away from warm base shades.2. Then you need to assess your eye shape. Almond

eyes can be accentuated to create a catlike-shape,but if your eyes slope downwards at the outercorners a rounded shape will work best.

3. Sweep a neutral colour over the lid, which willmake blending easier.

4. Apply translucent powder under the eyes tocatch any unwanted eyeshadow, it will thenbe easy to brush away later.

5. Line the upper and lower lash line witha soft kohl pencil and extend at the outercorners if you wish. Don’t be afraid to takethe pencil right in to the inner corners ofthe eye especially if you have wide seteyes. Smudge this for softness.

6. This season greys, violets and dark blues arefavoured. My top tip is to build the colour up slowly, starting from the lash line and blend, blend, blend.I use a sponge applicator for really dense colour,a medium brush for the lid and socket area and asmall brush under the lower lashes. You can also usea small brush to emphasize shape and extend thecolour outwards.

7. Black mascara is a must but blush should be minimal.8. Lips can be either nude or full-on red.

What to wear it with;Girls with attitude.

I’ve been on screen a lot and some of the storylines I am getting are

fantastic. I am still pinching myself at how lucky I am to be on screen

with so many amazing actors and have such a fantastic team behind

the scenes.

Hi all and welcome back to my monthly column! It has been a

whirlwind 2011 for me. I have had my contract renewed with Hollyoaks,

which means you will be seeing plenty more of Diane O’Connor.

Page 16: Gossip Monthly Magazine

he IVF treatment storyline was brilliant. There are a lot of people out there whocan’t have kids and it is good to raise

awareness about tough subjects. There is a recentstoryline where it is revealed that I started myrelationship with my on-screen boyfriend Robwhilst he was my teacher.I have to admit, when I first heard about it I wasworried and thought to myself; “I don’t know if Iwould be comfortable with my Yas, who’s 5,watching this.” But Hollyoaks has always beenone for approaching difficult subjects in theirstorylines and it is a real honour to be able to workon them. Because I’m back on the telly I amobviously in the public eye more regularly and getmy picture taken quite frequently. All thephotographers are always so polite. On Brooksidewe never got papped. Things have changed a lotcompared to my Brookside days but I’m lovingevery second of it.I attended the TRIC awards (Television and RadioClub) and National TV awards recently, which was

great fun! Local designer Mark Melia made me alovely dress for the National TV Awards and I wasin the paper for being one of the “Best Dressed”people there, I couldn’t believe it!The dress Mark made was absolutely stunningand I am delighted that a local designer managedto get some recognition. Generally, I’m not amassive fashion junkie. I don’t do designer labelsoften and I am really into my high street brands, Ilove Top Shop! To be talked about for my fashionsense was new for me, but it was really flattering.I also completed the half marathon recently forBarnados. The experience was exhilarating and Imanaged to finish in 1hour 47minutes I felt a real sense of achievement when I crossedthe line, my feet and legs have been hurting eversince but it was totally worth it for the feeling ofvindication you get when it’s all done. That is all for this month, but be sure to pick upthe next issue of Gossip to find out what I havebeen up to!

One day I was 24 and felt like I had

all the time in the world. I was in no

rush to get married and the

prospect wasn't going to be on the

cards for donkey's years.

Back then, I felt like I was too young

to commit to just one guy. There's

too much choice out there, too

many places to see, things to do,

people to smooch.

Then, at 25, as if overnight,

everything changed. All my like-

minded mates began settling down;

my best boy-buddies got girlfriends,

my Uni pals had babies and

mortgages, but worst of all my two

best childhood friends, became

ENGAGED. Even saying it out loud

makes me wince. Within two weeks

of each other they were both sporting

diamonds like golf-balls and all our

dirty wicked banter had soon turned

to wedding waffle.

God, when they told me, I actually

felt my heartbreak a little bit. As well

as being happy for them, there's

part of me that's immensely jealous

and selfishly left feeling exasperated

by the whole scenario. It doesn't

mean I don't love them, because

I do, and mixed with all that jealousy

there is genuine excitement, but

I just wasn't prepared to be giving

up my two BFF's at the same time.

You have to understand, these two

girls are not just friends, they're

more like sisters and we did

everything together. Grew up

together, went to school together,

were naughty together and I always

envisaged we'd get married

together, or at roughly the same

stage in life. But now they're almost

finishing the relationship race and

I'm still messing around at the start

line trying to tie my laces.

Call me self-centered but

sometimes I feel rather mad at

them, because when they're married

I'm going to be ostracized for being

the only single friend, they'll stop

inviting me on holiday, dinner will be

'couples-only' and before you know

it I'm going to be sad, single and on

a dusty old shelf mixing with other

sad, singles on the same dusty

knackered shelf. I mean come on,

can married people really be friends

with single people?

Never before have I felt theconstraints of time, but now I feellike I'm being strangled by it. Whenpeople enquire about my potentialprospects, I laugh off thoughts ofa barren future and explain to themI plan on having a sparkling career,worn-out passport and an utterlyglamorous social life for as long aspossible. In reality, all that chat isbravado. I've realised yes havinga job is necessary to sustain life, butit will never love you back; and theonly people who will truly find youirreplaceable are your family.

When I confessed my secretanxieties to a gaggle of olderwomen, they laughed and gasped"You're just a baby and have plentyof time for all that." But honestlyI haven't and now it's all I can think

about. I worked out, I'm now 25 andI want to be married by the time I'm30. I want to be with Him for at leastthree years before we get engagedand I'd like a year-long engagementto give me enough time to plan thewedding extravaganza. That meansI have to find Mr. Right, um. this year!

I used to assume that He would just appear in front of me, sweep meoff my Louboutin-clad feet andeventually propose somewheremeaningful and romantic. But withthe pool of potential partner'sbecoming smaller and smaller,I reasoned, you can't just leavethose things to chance.

So, three months ago I started to dosomething about it. I changed myimage slightly, got new interests, gave up drinking and filled with allthis new added pressure, I beganaccepting dates from men I usuallytell: "I'm washing my hair". I thought,

maybe I hadn't given people a chancein the past, maybe I'd been wrong allthis time, maybe I didn't recognisewhen I was onto a good thing.

I lined up three guys but the burdenof trying to find a boyfriend becameall too much and the dates were likehusband auditions. Instead of justrelaxing and having a laugh, I beganmentally ticking off a checklist in myhead. I was nit picking at their looksas a way of rating what our potentialoffspring would look like. If he hada good job and paid the bill, I wouldassess his ability to be a goodprovider. I enquired about his health, family, upbringing and if I didn't likethe answers he'd be lucky to geta second date. Seriously it wasbecoming ridiculous.

After the third disastrous date –which I'll tell you about anothertime – I realised it's more importantto find someone you actually wantto marry, rather than settling forsomeone who has the potential tomake you feel sick but ticks a fewboxes. I'd hate to think I could missout on the right person because I'malready wed to the wrong person. So I'm going to stay footloose andfancy free for the time being. I'm nevergoing to be able to keep up with mybest friends but I'd rather have Mr.Perfect than Mr. Good Enough.

Following this visit I canhonestly say HOST has fast become one of myfavourite restaurants. Situated in the stunningGeorgian Quarter; HOST combines a simpleseasonal menu with great customer service and chic interiors.

On arrival the atmosphere instantly brings on a feeling of comfortand relaxation. Diners are welcomed by friendly and attentive staff and a seatingplan akin to the fashionable noodles bars of the Far East. Long tables, chopsticks and spices all in arelaxed, contemporary atmosphere. The décor of pale blues and oranges is simple yet effective, there isan easy going ambience to the restaurant and when the adjoining bar is busy there is a real buzz to theplace. With a wide range of cocktails and drinks on offer you could easily stay there all night.

The food offering is a simple East-meets-West fusion of dining: A delectable selection of starters, mainsand deserts inspired by cultures and flavours from around the globe. Aptly named small plates (starters)and big plates (mains) feature a variety of flavours and colours; with a great selection of Vegetariandishes as well there really is something for everyone.

In terms of HOST adopting the slogan of

I will definitely be heading back to the GeorgianQuarter in the not todistant future!

A two day extravaganza of live music is set

to land in Southport this summer. Here at

Gossip we are very much looking forward

to it as Southport Rocks promises to be

the ultimate festival experience; with a

great music, delightful food by KRO, a

spot of shopping in the festival market,

homeopathic and alternative therapies

as well as the very best in deluxe

Glamping facilities for those of us who

can’t stray far from a little luxury.

Headlining the festival will be those indie

rock gods the Futureheads, plus some of the

North West’s best new bands including Picture

Book, Sour Mash and Stealing sheep; plus

brilliant selection of acts sure to make the

weekend one to remember.

What’s more ladies, it is all in aid of a great

cause, the event is a big fundraiser for Vital

Sounds Foundation, raising funds for heart

screening into SADS (Sudden Adult Death

Syndrome).

Southport Rocks takes place in the beautiful

Victoria Park and has secured three fields of

prime land for a camping extravaganza like

never seen before in Southport.

A very specialGlamping area, complete with

luxurious bell tents and Mongolian Yurts is

available for those who need a little luxury in life.

Yurts I hear you ask? Well, they are huge walk in

tents, scattered with sumptuous cushions and

are by far the most comfortable and stylish way

to spend a festival weekend. For those on a

rather more modest budget there is an early bird

weekend ticket for just £39 until the end of April

so a girl can do a festival season on a budget,

ultimately leaving spare cash for those amazing

red hunters we’ve had our eyes on.

iPhone 5

iPad 2 has barely had enough time to take it's coat offand already rumours are starting to circulate aboutApples next gadget, as it stands it's generally believedthat the iPhone 5 will sport an edge to edge screenlarger the it's predecessors, a higher end camera, morestorage, a redesigned antenna and a little somethingcalled NFC (Near Field Communication) which rathercleverly lets your phone talk to other close-by devicessecurely, the big news with this is that NFC will let youuse your iPhone as any number of things, mostimportantly a credit card, just a quick swipe across apay pad and thats it, no pin numbers, no waiting, easy. It'll also let systems likeLondon's Oystercard workthrough it. Whencan expect tosee the iPhone5? HistoricallyApple launch at theend of summer, butyou never know….

In march Nintendo took a step towards portablegames domination. They launched the 3DS, alittle handheld device that has a 3D screen, thebig news being that there was no need to donclunky glasses to enjoy the effect, some magicalprocess allows you to see the images using justyour bog standard human eyes. But the 3DS issooooo last month! Later in the year Sony willlaunch the NGP (Next Generation Portable) Thissexy little beast will rock two touchscreens (Front and Back), WiFi, 3G andthe jewel in the crown, the long soughtafter dual analogue sticks. Now to thenormal non geek human this maysound like an arbitrary addition to ahandheld gaming console, but don't befooled, the addition of these two littlenubbins will make it possible for theuser to control proper 3D games andshooters just like you can at home on a traditionalconsole, we're talking Call of Duty, FIFA and GTA!!!The boffins at Sony showcased the device's grunt at arecent expo in the states and if it does half of whatthey promise they're onto a winner. It should berealised in time for christmas, so mention it to yourmum now!www.uk.playstation.com/ngp

Firstly hello and let's get the introductions

out of the way. My name is Jayne Mahon

(soon to be Littler) and I am the other half

of the geeky guy on the previous page.

I work at Andrew Collinge, Castle St, Liverpool - where

I am Art Director. This is where I meet a plethora of

gorgeous people from yummy mummies to actress,

models to students.

Working in such a great environment and traveling a lot,

you can't help but notice things along the way. The Oh-So

important bits and bobs, what are all the cool kids in

Paris wearing, which TV show we should be watching

and where on earth is that dress from!

Hopefully as you read this spring has sprung, every good girls

dilemma of what to wear now the ice has melted has begun.

But as every Chic lady knows it's not just clothes that fill our

minds with unanswered questions.

So hopefully I can help in some way to answer and suggest

what should be in your hand bag, where to be seen, or even

what App you must have on your phone.

JamEs Thomas

Reviews romantic comedy "No Strings Attached"

Gossip Films Critic James Thomas

Cast: Natalie Portman, Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Cline

Screenwriter: Elizabeth MeriwetherDirector: Ivan Reitman

Certificate: 15Running Time: 10 mins

Portman, as Emma, is the best thing inthe film, and it probably won't harm hercareer too much, but after taking onelook at the script, you do wonder whythe winner of this year's Oscar for bestactress would agree to appear in such a film. Portman, we know can do sexy,(see Closer and Black Swan), and hereproves she does have decent comictiming, it is just a pity that the scriptdidn't give her more chances to prove this. The story sees Emma, a youngdoctor, and Adam (AshtonKutcher) an aspiringscriptwriter embark on a sexonly relationship. He clearlywants something more, whileshe doesn't do relationships. What a predicament! Willthey end up together? Well, what do you think? But toaccuse a film like NoStrings Attached of beingpredictable is akin toaccusing the sun of beinga bit warm, it is a bitpointless.Kutcher is generallyfine, without beingremarkable. Hepractically oozescharm, and has looksand a grin that makethe rest of the male populationfeel like giving up. The film does provide uswith some laughs. Kevin Cline pops up asKutcher's weed smoking, ex actor Dad, andis clearly enjoying himself, and brings acouple of chuckles with him.

The 'period mix' CD that Kutcher bringsEmma and her flat mates is amusing (you'll

never listen to Leona Lewis''Bleedin Love' thesame again!) Thereis also some decentsupport from thefriends of the leads, rapper Ludacris beingone. If you only see one filmthis year were NataliePortman gets raunchysee Black Swan. If youonly see one film this yearin which two beautifulpeople attempt a sex onlyrelationship wait untilSeptember for JustinTimberlake and Mila Kunisin Friends With Benefits.

The film is an enjoyablerom com, predictable, but at times fun. If youare looking to pass a

couple of hours by it is great, if youare looking for another Oscar-worthyfilm, look elsewhere.
