The conference was aptly named “A Brave New World”. Attendance at such conferences is invaluable in the exposure provided to best practice pedagogy in addition to the obvious benefits of networking opportunities available at a gathering of over 80 principals. Speakers included Geoff Scott (President NSW PPA) “The NSWPPA and Public Education”, Michael McQueen (Specialist in demographic shifts, change management and future trends) “The Shape of Things to Come in Education” and “21st Century Teaching and Learning”, Jayne Ann Young (Visible Learning Plus Consultant) Visible Learning Research”, Andrew Churches (Classroom practitioner, author & presenter) “Technology and Thinking Skills in the Classroom” & “Growing Digital Citizens” and Adam Spencer (Author, broadcaster, mathematician). Overall the conference was very informative, exciting and inspiring. Our school administrative staff are a very talented group who are so capably handling all the challenges of a rapidly evolving educational system. As principal of Gordon West I am very fortunate to have the support of such excellent individuals. Congratulations to Mrs Walmsley our Band Director, Concert Band 1 members and their parents on their outstanding performance at last weeks Chatswood Eisteddfod. Gordon West finished 2nd out of the 32 schools in their division which was truly a magnificent achievement. A recent incident after school highlighted the need for everyone to be aware of the procedure that if for some reason a parent is unable to meet a child as planned or if there is a mix up in arrangements for collection after school then the child in question is to go immediately to the office steps until the problem is resolved. Usually a phone call or two can quickly solve the issue to everyone’s satisfaction. Please remind your child of this procedure. School Half Yearly reports will be sent home on Friday 19 June 2015. Included with the reports will be instructions on how to complete an online booking for parent teacher interviews to be held Week 10 (22-26 June). Bookings will be available on Friday 19 June from 7pm onwards. Pictured Concert Band 1 Captains Skye and Raj with the band’s plaque from the Eisteddfod.

Dates to Remember

On Thursday and Friday of last week I attended the Harbour to Hawkesbury Principal’s conference held at Terrigal. The conference was aptly named “A Brave New World”. Attendance at such conferences is invaluable in the exposure provided to best practice pedagogy in addition to the obvious benefits of networking opportunities available at a gathering of over 80 principals.

If parents experience any difficulties with this method of booking an interview please contact the school for assistance. Parents are reminded that although we have scheduled parent/teacher interviews the school expectation is that parents and teachers can and will organise meetings at any time should the need arise. Grade supervisors will present an overview of the new reporting format at the next meeting of the Gordon West P&C to be held next Monday at 7.30pm in the staffroom. Our new look Senior Dance Group, under the choreography of Mrs Sutton and Mrs Dutra will perform at The Glen Street Theatre on a number of occasions next week. We wish them all the best and look forward to watching them perform at the school later in the year. J Huckerby Principal

2016 Kindergarten Enrolments

If you have a child who will be enrolling in Kindergarten in 2016 please call into the school office and collect your enrolment form. If you are unable to visit the office or have neighbours/friends who need to enrol for 2016 the forms are also available on our website. We are now processing the 2016 Kindy enrolments and would like to start assessing our numbers for next year. Other documents required for enrolment include birth certificate/passport, immunisation papers and proof of address.

Book Covering There are a significant number of Guided Reading books which require covering before they can be used in classrooms. If any member of the school community is available to help with the covering of these books, Mrs

Garland would greatly appreciate your assistance in the school library next Wednesday, 17th June from 1:00pm – 3:10pm.
