GORD has come a long way since pioneering the GlobalSustainability Assessment System (GSAS) formerly known as(GSAS) the Middle Eastrsquos first integrated and performance-based green building assessment rating system in 2009

Our mission to encourage the development and implementationof sustainability principles and imperatives stems from thesustainable goals outlined in His Highness The Emir SheikhHamad bin Khalifa Al-Thanirsquos Qatar National Vision 2030which aims to achieve sustainable economic development andenvironmental leadership

GSAS draws from top-tier global sustainability systems and adds new facets anddimensions to the current practices in assessing the sustainability of the built environmentModelled on best practices from the most established global rating schemes includingbut not limited to BREEAM (United Kingdom) LEED (United States) GREEN GLOBES(Canada) CEPAS (Hong Kong) CASBEE (Japan) and the International SBTOOL GSAShas grown into a pan-regional system offering a comprehensive framework and equallyflexible to incorporate the specific needs of the local context of different regions In QatarGSAS is currently the only rating scheme to be acknowledged by Qatar ConstructionSpecifications (QCS 2010)

Primary goals of GSAS include creating a better living environment minimizingresource consumption and reducing environmental degradation due to the fast pace

of urbanization taking place in this era Such objectives coupled with the increasingevidence of climate change effects on a global level have contributed strongly to theunprecedented pace of adaptation to sustainability practices not only in the developedcountries but also in developing countries at a pace that is unexpected

GSAS Version 20 has become the most comprehensive system to date that addressesthe built environment from a macro level to a micro level targeting a wide range ofbuilding typologies The new system will have design assessments for all typologiesintegrated into one comprehensive manual The manual provides recommendationsand guidelines for the effective implementation of the sustainability goals of eachcriterion As more research is carried out on the rating system the manuals will befurther developed to keep users informed on updates within the constantly evolving

Academy offers memberships and certificationprograms which are designed to meet the

educational needs of the professionals working inthe construction industry

Each level of qualifications has its own sets ofcredentialing requirements (to maintain or progress

to higher qualification level see Section 6) that acandidate must be able to complete to ultimately

the GSAS categories and criteria from typologiesas well as discipline- based perspectives as in the

future different types of certifications might berequested by concerned government agencies

before an individual is allowed to practice Eachcertificant can select hisher choice of certification

schemes based on hisher own interest or theGORD Academyrsquos progression requirements See

32 Associate CGP(Associate Certified Green Professionals)

This scheme can be pursued by individuals who

desire to learn more about sustainability objectivesand practices in the build environment This title is

conferred to those candidates who have earnedthe GSAS-ACGP certificationrsquos requirement by

participating in the GSAS ACGP course or any ofGORD Academy training courses or Seminars

33 GSAS-CGP(GSAS-Certified Green Professionals)

331 This scheme is the starting certificationfor candidates who wish to apply for all other

certifications schemes in the future This title isconferred to those candidates who have earned the

GSAS- CGP certificationrsquos full requirements and bydemonstrating a well- rounded understandingand knowledge of the GSAS project management

through participation in the GSAS 3-day trainingworkshop and passing the CGP Online exam The

GSAS- CGP proctored open-book examination isdesigned to tests a candidatersquos knowledge of all

GSAS criteria in order to prepare the candidatefor managing a GSAS project from registration

to certification Information about candidates fortesting and their examination results are considered

confidential

Development (CPD)Programs amp CEUs

41 GORD Academy has allocated certain numberof CEUs (Continuing Education Units) for each

professional development activity All recognisedactivities provided by other parties should not be

less than the number of days hours indicatedunder each category in order for the individual to

claim the corresponding CEUs for such activity

42 Credits can be claimed only once for eachcertification level and is valid within one (1) year

from the date of claiming the credit Full credits foreach CPD activities are only given if the minimum

equivalent CEUs are satisfied within the validityperiod of the certificate

43 Extenuating circumstances with regards to

claiming credits will be reviewed on a case- by-casebasis by the Academyrsquos Certification Committee

71 Renewal Policies

711 Each certificant is required to renew hisher certification every year The renewal process

includes submittal of a renewal fee of QR 1500 for3 years and evidence of earning CEUs during each

renewal period Certificants are required to submita report of professional development activities

as part of certification renewal A percentage ofcertificants are randomly chosen for audit each

year and all members should agree to this policybefore proceeding with membership processes Ifaudited a report of CEUs with documentation must

be submitted to GORD Academy for review

712 CPD programs from other credentialing bodiesor organizations might qualify for GORD Academyrsquos

CEUs The individual is responsible for verifyingwith GORD Academy to determine whether an

activity qualifies for CEUs

713 CEUs obtained from credentials maintenance(Section 51) can be used for the progression

application provided that such accredited courseswere taken within the previous 12 months period of

the progression application date

714 Each GSAS-CGP certificant is required torenew hisher certification every 3 years by enrolling

in the Code [11] GSAS Vxx Refresher Course Thecourse gives a certificant the chance to update

hisher knowledge based on the latest addenda toGSAS manuals toolkits and GSASgate

715 The renewal period starts at the end of

the 3-year cycle beginning from the date that thecertificant has earned hisher certification

716 Individuals who fail to submit evidence ofthe required qualification maintenance requisites

with in 3 months after the certificationrsquos validityperiod expires the certificant will be considered

ldquonon-renewingrdquo and should immediately ceaseusing the specific certification titles after their

names The names of non-renewing certificantswill be removed from the list of GSAS certified

professionals on LinkMe Online Community Portal

Practitioners considered ldquonon-renewingrdquo are subjectto

bull Ceasing the associated Service Provider License

bull Deactivation of access to GSASgate

bull Disqualifying for the 10 discount on GSASSponsored Seminars

bull Excluding from participation in GORD GSAS
