COMING EVENTS
TEAMS DAY 12 September, 2019
All students, Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Rose will participate again this year in Teams Day, to be held on Thursday 12 September at The Channon, Coronation Park. Please be there by 9:15am and concluding at approximately 2.25pm. Private transport is required. There is no cost involved. Teams Day involves students from local adjoining primary schools participating in teams sports such as Danish rounders, Tee ball and Soccer. We need all our students to fill the teams! Full school uniform needs to be worn including a school hat. Students are responsible for bringing their own food and water. Canteen will be available on the day. This day brings opportunities for students to interact with other students from other schools while working as a team and to have some fun.
CELEBRATING READING with an Author Visit and Dress Up Day as Your Favourite Book Character Day.
Tuesday 17 September
As part of the Byron Writers Festival we have a visiting author, Lucas Proudfoot who writes The Proudfoots adventure series coming to our school on Tuesday 17 September. Lucas is a member of the Tweed Coast Aboriginal and Islander community. His books invite young audiences to learn about Indigenous cultures from around the globe. If is it fine weather he will set up an outdoor pop-up classroom beside the StoryBoard Bus. If you have one of Luca’s books you may want to bring it along to have him sign the book for you. His books will be on sale on the day for $10 each and are suitable for 5-12 years.
Students are also invited to dress up as their favourite book character from a book that they have or can borrow. We will have a show and share about which character they have chosen and why.
The Centenary of Nimbin Annual Country Show Saturday 21 September
This year we (P&C, Mrs Bertuzzi and supported by Ms McEwen) have opted to not attend the North Coast National Show in Lismore. Instead students are asked to attend the Nimbin Show on Saturday 21st September to perform at 12:00pm (please be there 10 minutes prior) at the community stage area. We are requesting all our students attend as we need all hands on deck to play the steel pan drums and sing a few songs. Our Aboriginal art work, vegetables, herbs and chickens will also be on show. Students are invited to wear casual clothes, but we will be asking students to change into the school’s drumming t-shirt prior to performing and we will be collecting the shirts after the performance. Entry is free and it should be a great afternoon. Please complete the note attached so we know who is coming and which drums to transport.
YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR
On Monday 23rd September at 9:30-11:15am students will be presenting a learning extravaganza! We will be presenting ‘Discovering Our Shared Past’ projects. The morning will conclude with a shared morning tea. If you would like to contribute to morning tea this would be most appreciated.
Invite your family and friends, everyone is WELCOME!

LISMORE PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL
Students in the new t shirts made for our debut steel pan drumming performance in
Lismore this week. Congratulations on a great effort from all the students on coming together and ‘wowing’ the audience. And once again a big thank you to all the staff, community members and parents that helped along the way to help make this a reality.
CONGRATULATIONS PAT
For Education Week, schools within our region get to nominate students, staff, community helpers and P&C members for their outstanding contribution to Public Education.
This year Pat was recognised for the extra mile he goes to each and every day to help make learning fun, informative and bringing new ideas to the table, and not just for Goolmangar Public School but for all Students around the region.
Lets take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU PAT.
Wellbeing Program
Recently our students tried the ‘body scan’ meditation using the ‘Smiling Minds’
app. The majority of our students felt this was so calming and helped re-energise
for the next lesson. We encourage everyone to have a go and just stopping for
five minutes of complete peace. For more information please view the website.

Tim and Pat spent the day trenching to lay pipe to
get water to the green house and chicken coop.
Just in time for summer!

SAFE PETS OUT THERE The Safe Pets program visited our school this week. Students are shown how to approach a dog and what to do if the dog seems agitated. Students got to put into practice, the approaching of the dog.
