Introduction• On this google earth tour we will visit several major cities most being
capitals and looking at their road systems and why people might have chosen to live their in the first place along with the challenges city planners had to face to develop the city.
Washington D.C.Task: Does the street lay out change near the white house, if yes then how?Can you compare the road layout with any other major city?
BerlinTask: After the Second World War Berlin was divided into east and west with the USSR controlling the east and the Allied powers controlling the west. The allies poured money into the rebuilding of west Berlin while the USSR used it for its resources. Can you tell the difference between east and west Berlin now? Explain why or why not.
MoscowTask: How are Moscow and Berlin similar and how are they different. Compare the size, street layout, natural barriers, etc.
New York Task: Does New York have a grid road system? If so why do you think it does? What obstacles did city planners and architects have to plan around when developing New York?
Venice Task: How are these city “streets” Different and why do you think people settled in this city/ what are the geological advantages of this city?
