Genre Characteristics Drake song is a hybrid of two genres hip-hop and R&B, as the video shows the genre characteristics of sexual appearance of women, urban fashion, jewellery and a narrative based performance which commonly used in hip-hop. Drake uses these characteristics to appeal to both genres and by him also looking somewhat handsome it appeals more to R&B. 2. Relationship between lyrics and visuals Goodwin’s theory implies that lyrics make references to visuals as this is heard in this music video throughout. “Know you got a roommate, call me when it's no one there. Put the key under the mat, and you know I'll be over there. I'll be over there, shawty, I'll be over there. I'll be hitting all the spots that you ain't even know was there” The lyrics express the sexual feelings he feels for the female, “I'll be hitting all the spots that you ain't even know was there” this being a innuendo message of sex. This is expressed on screen as we see the women working out erotically showing a lot of cleavage and legs, this making the audience (mainly men) feel aroused. This is a common style of R&B, using women to appeal to the sexual content of lyrics on screen. 1

The tempo of the music is very slow and calm while also using a slow cutting rate during the verses of the song. This is mainly used to match the narrative of the video and for the audience to stay focused on the female movement, for example at the beginning when the women are shown running in slow motion.

4. The demands of the record label

The demands of the record label will intend for the artist to use lots of close-ups which may develop motifs which recur across their work. This is true although Drake’s video uses many medium shot to show him and whole appearance. He uses these shots to show of his good looks to his audience which are primarily women in this instance.

5. Notion of looking

There is frequently a reference to the notion of looking and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body in this video as we see many women wearing revealing clothing, stretching, working out and playing sports erotically.
