The Silver Cross Circle is a chapter of the King's Daughters located in Paris, Texas. This chapter has devoted much of their time focusing on the children at Goodland. This year's activity came in the form of a skating party at the Family Fun Center in Paris. Skating was a great choice as the boy's faces were all smiles. After talking to a few of the students, they agreed that it was a lot of fun and, of course, all of the falls were on purpose. After a couple of hours of releasing energy on the skating rink, the boys were treated to a lunch of pizza and cokes all courtesy of the Silver Cross Circle. Not only did they treat the boys to a wonderful afternoon of fun and excitement, before the day ended they also presented each child with a five dollar gift card to Wal- Mart. The gracious generosity of these women is certainly recognized by God who "loveth a cheerful giver" II Cor. 9:7. As the afternoon came to an end for the boys, they yet again were showered with blessings by this wonderful organization. Silver Cross Circle member, Becky Nash and her husband Gary, own the Dairy Queen in Powderly, Texas and insisted that we visit their place of business for free ice cream. The boys were overwhelmed by the kindness that was shown to them in just one day. To return the respect that was shown to them and display a piece of their gratitude, the boys wrote thank you cards to the women of the Silver Cross Circle. Having completed the big event for the year, the Silver Cross Circle will begin planning for future projects, which include collecting money to help with school clothes and supplies for the Academy. ISSUE NO. 02FEBRUARY 2008

On Saturday, January 26, the Goodland Academy residents received a special treat from the Silver Cross Circle.

Not only did they treat the boys to a wonderful afternoon of fun and excitement, before the day ended they also presented each child with a five dollar gift card to Wal-Mart. The gracious generosity of these

women is certainly recognized by God who "loveth a cheerful giver" II Cor. 9:7.

As the afternoon came to an end for the boys, they yet again were showered with blessings by this wonderful organization. Silver Cross Circle member, Becky Nash and her husband Gary, own the Dairy Queen in Powderly, Texas and insisted that we visit their place of business for free ice

cream.

Livestock ShowsOn January 19, some of the Goodland

Academy students participated in the local Jackpot Pig Show at the Hugo Agriplex. The students care for their animals on a daily basis and enjoy showing their animals in agricultural shows. Pictured left is Goodland Academy student, Nick Thain, showing his pig Bubba. Along with pigs, some of the students also show sheep. Nick insists that he enjoys showing Bubba more than showing his sheep, Liam. He said that training Liam to brace, or to hold his position, is a very difficult task that is not only time consuming but frustrating. We are very proud of the boys who participated in this event.

*************Practice Makes Perfect

The Goodland Academy basketball team brought home a 38-28 victory Thursday, January 24 against the Goodland Public School. The boys are now holding on to a 1-1 record and continue to improve their skills in practice. The team is coached by houseparents, Steve Sparks and J. D. Strong, who hold practices weekly. The boys suffered an 34-30 loss to the Goodland Public School earlier this year but have worked their way back to tie up their season. Hard work and dedication was apparent during the game as the boys played hard the whole game. Congratulations to the team and good luck on a successful season.

Anna Pipkin (89), a retired Presbyterian missionary from Antlers, OK. passed away Monday, January 21. Anna was a missionary in Brazil from 1949 to 1984. She took leave from her duties in Brazil to care for her sick brother in 1960. It was at this time that she taught English at the state high school on Goodland's campus. She has been quoted as saying that, "to teach Shakespeare to students who were nearly all Indians was a unique experience." Anna also wrote the book "All the Way: 35 years in Brazil Mission." Indeed she will be dearly missed. Our prayers go out to her family and friends in the time of this great loss.
