Jane O’Toole will excite you with her thrillingly beautiful voice and glamorous costumes as
she performs the glorious melo-dies indelibly identified with our most famous Girls From Oz - Madame Butterfly, La Traviata, The Sound of Music, Velia from The Merry Widow, Love Will Find a Way from Maid of the Mountains, and many, many more.Written and directed by Rod Anderson, with musical director Sue Goessling at the piano it will be a dazzling spec-tacle audiences won’t forget. The Girls from Oz will be at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre at 11am on Tuesday, October 16. Ticket price: Adults $18, conces-sion/group of 6 + $16.To book contact the Box Office on 03 5722 8105 between 10am-4pm Monday-Friday or visit www.wangarattapac.com.au.
Following the outstanding success of their hysterical production and world first
HMS Pinafore which toured in 2008, the gang are returning with a fantastic new treat-
ment of the most popular Gilbert & Sullivan classic of all time. This new version performed in full costume, with scenery painted by the best in Australia, Scenic Studios, will again contain many more musical delights as well as comedy scenes that will have audiences in gales of laughter.Starring in this production is the very funny and highly acclaimed actor Brian Hannan. Best remem-bered for his 9 years on ABC TV BellBird and many JC Williamson musicals. Brian wowed audiences in 2008 with his hysterical portrayal of Sir Joseph Porter in HMS Pinafore. This year he will play the comic leading role of KoKo. Naturally Brian will bring to
life many new characters as well. Why on earth is Peter Allen there? What’s Dean Martin doing
in the production? Kamahl? You’ve got to be kidding. No way, these and others will make a
guest appearance in this production.Alison Rae Jones an exciting soprano
from Opera Australia will play the role of Yum Yum. Alison brings a
wealth of professional
experience to the company having sung in Europe and the UK over the past 15 years, including the role of Yum Yum for the D’oyly Carte Opera Company in the world famous Savoy Theatre, London.Seasoned professional Philip Wheeldon will play the roles of Pooh Bah and The Mikado. He is also respon-sible for many of the additional lyrics in the show. Australian Opera performer, Caroline Vercoe, brings to life the wonderful role of Katisha.Linda O’Brien will play the role of the musical Director at The Piano. The production is directed by the criti-cally acclaimed Hugh Halliday. All in all this will truly be one of the cleverest and enter-taining productions to tour in 2008, and why wouldn’t it be with songs like, Three Little Maids From School, The Sun Whose Rays, Here’s A Howdy Do, Tit Willow and many more.So fasten your rickshaws, The Pinafore crew are sailing to Japan for more madness and hilarity, and truly one of the best times in the theatre anywhere. If you liked HMS Pinafore, don’t miss the most popular of all The Mikado at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre on October 6 at 7.30pm. Ticket price: Adults $35, concession $30, child (15 & under) $20.To book contact the Box Office on 03 5722 8105 between 10am-4pm Monday-Friday or visit www.wangarattapac.com.au.

Jane O’Toole brings to life some of Australia's greatest musical stars.
GOODTIMES YARRAWONGA CHRONICLE/COROWA FREE PRESS - SEPT/OCT 2012 - ISSUE 34 3
Their distinctive rhythm and blues, southern sound dominated radio in the late 1960s and early 70s with hits such
as Proud Mary, Run Through The Jungle, Who'll Stop The Rain, Bad Moon Rising, Down on The Corner, Midnight Special and I Heard It Through The Grapevine continue to receive radio airplay 40 years after the band broke up.The band sold 26 million albums in the United States alone, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and ranked at 82 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest artists of all time.Creedence Clearwater Recycled consists of four extremely talented musicians, who, having cut their teeth in various bands
(Country, Blues & Rock), have come together with one major objective in mind. To bring the fantastic music of Creedence Clearwater Revival back to life on stage in front of a live audi-ence where it really belongs played with all the skill, the passion, the power and the dedication it both demands and truly deserves. So, when you experience Creedence Clearwater Recy-cled live, you are transported back in time (as if at an authentic CCR concert) when legendary songwriting and musicianship were paramount. You can hear and feel the dedication and obvious love they have for this music. Their skilful, high-energy, powered perform-ances respectfully praise the work of John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook and Doug Clifford. You’ll find yourself singing along to song after song you thought you’d forgotten, and come away with an even greater appreciation for the music and its creators.Don't miss this unbelievable live show at Mulwala Water Ski Club on Saturday, October 20, live and free.

GOODTIMES YARRAWONGA CHRONICLE/COROWA FREE PRESS - SEPT/OCT 2012 - ISSUE 34 5
Corowa’s 134th annual show on Sunday, October 14 has three exciting new events and has snared, for a third
consecutive year to Corowa Show, four-time world record-holder and entertainer, Roy Maloy. The official 1.00pm show opening will feature highly regarded horse-handler, Wayne Hinch-liffe, from Bundalong, with his team of hors-eriders carrying Australian Flags, a la Sydney Olympics. Wayne’s debut at the Corowa Show will also feature teenage songwriter who plays guitar on horseback, Maddie Dawson, of Kiewa Valley.Wayne will perform two shows on the day. Corowa Pastoral, Agricultural & Horticultural Society officials are thrilled to have his team perform the opening and the two shows.“Wayne has been popular at many agricultural shows and will add to the talented people and horses we have competing all day under ringmaster Mandy Reidy,” show secretary, Jan McKenna, told The Good Times.“He is in demand and showgoers are sure to be impressed with his tricks. We look forward to seeing him here for the first time.“We also welcome two other first-timers at our show – Tootsie the Clown who tours all over Australia and will rove around the show all day.“And Michael Alexander from Melbourne, with Black Snake Productions and his wildlife
display, will, I’m sure, prove popular too.”Roy Maloy, who turns 37-years-of-age on October 27, is an extremely popular enter-tainer and justifies reference to him as “an Australian icon”.Roy’s circus performance, including his bed of nails, stilt-walking, stunts and fire-eating has youngsters through to the not-so-young people seated well before his act begins. The man with humble beginnings – he was the son of two Salvation Army missionaries and was homeless as a teenager - has captured fans throughout the world with his ability to perform and involve the audience. Show rides have increased in number and excitement in recent years and this year will be no exception. With dogs, puppies, cats, kittens and birds, the Pet Show always attracts admirers throughout the day, as well as outstanding performances by the many horseriders inside the Corowa Racecourse track.Numerous exhibits in the main pavilion
featuring a wide range of subjects and stacks of talent will be on display.“The program has great appeal to all ages. We always strive for a popular family day outing program and we have not increased admission prices,” Jan said.“We really hope the people of Corowa and the whole surrounding district come along to support the day.”
Showgoers love to see exciting new events and a return of all that is popular with a town’s annual show.

A desire to stage a classic
Just getting the rights to perform the play is a challenge while finding
local actors with the courage to lay themselves emotionally bare on the stage deters many from even attempting the production. But Allegro Theatre Company director Steve Thornycroft, great fan of Williams' work, is made of sterner stuff. His previous experience with the Yarrawonga company convinced him they were prepared to take on the tough productions and he also believed they had the talent to do such a loved play justice.“Allegro has afforded me a wonderful opportunity to stage one of my favourite productions,” Thornycroft said.“Yarrawonga has a vibrant, committed theatre interest and great talent and I have received outstanding support practically and emotionally in co-creating with the cast (and crew) this play. “To me the characters are
real, they must be real to the audience. It is critical that we identify with them, feel for them, feel uncomfortable about them, even reject or embrace them. I have a cast, wonderful as they are, who are running the journey of their characters, living their lives. “This is dangerous ground for an actor and us all, as it exposes us and confronts our ‘demons’. As we have rehearsed it has been wonderful watching the actors feel ashamed, awkward, proud, and every other emotion in their
characterisation. I hope to elicit all the emotions that the characters feel for the audience to experience. Allegro’s talent pool has brought a cast of dedicated actors that create the reality of Streetcar – I anticipated this and as such feel greatly rewarded.“Streetcar is brilliant, set in the heart of the blues capital of New Orleans. It has the power to unnerve an audience with brutality, and desire.“I have costumed the play (with invaluable assistance from Bev Buchanan) in the seventies. I want to bring the play from
the late 1940s, when it was written, into a place closer to our times. “What happened then, happens now. The brutal Stanley still exists, so too does the tragic Blanche and the misguided Stella – even the awkward Mitch. Bringing the forties to the present seemed too much – the seventies is a believable progression but in reality equally relevant to today.”
A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Steve Thornycroft, will be performed at the Uniting Church Hall in Piper Street on October 4, 5 6, 11, 12 and 13. It is recommended for mature audiences and contains some graphic scenes and
language. The cast includes Colette Quin (Blanche DuBois), Adrian Ridley (Stanley Kowalski), Julie Denny (Stella Kowalski), Shane Douthie (Harold 'Mitch' Mitchell), Danielle Spence (Eunice Hubbell, Mexican Woman), Shane McBurnie (Steve Hubbell), Catherine McBurnie (Italian Woman, Nurse), Stephen McKinley (Pablo Gonzales), Chris Thornycroft (Young Collector) and Terry Williams (Doctor).Tickets go on sale at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Visitor Information Centre (57441989) on September 18 - adults $20, concession $15.
It's no easy feat to direct a classic drama such as A Streetcar named Desire by tennessee williams.

when you combine the powerful vocal and high energy of award winning entertainer Steve Cummins with dual Golden Guitarist Rob Bostock you know
you are going to get a night to remember, and that is what The Rustic Sons are all about.“The Rustic Sons are a multi-award winning act who delivers a very respectful tribute to the super stars of country in a unique and very original way, blending their own style of musical talents to create this top class show. “I have performed in a lot of different shows for a long time now and would say this show is my favourite. I love the variety of songs and the power rendition the Rustic Sons deliver,” Steve Cummins said. The same goes for Rob Bostock. “I have been fortunate enough to have performed with some of the biggest names in Australian music, however when asked what show would be my favourite, I say it would be this one,” Bostock said.
