Happy August everyone!
Hope this finds you and your family well! Especially after all the storms we have experienced these past weeks.
Wow, July brought a lot of fun to the club! Hope you were able to attend some of events.
If you haven’t paid your dues, it’s not too late. Please get a hold of Doc and he’ll help you out.
We have a lot of activities coming up and need some help. Rocking Under the Stars is August 7th and Good Ole Days August 28th. If you have just a couple hours, please come out to help these events be as successful as they can be.
The next membership meeting is August 18th. Steak night is back, so bring your appetite. Please try to attend if possible. We were short last month and were unable to conduct the business portion of the meeting.
Hunting season is right around the corner. So, prepare and check out the calendar for open shooting dates.
If there is anything, the Board or I can do for you please let me know.
Take care and I’ll see you at the club!

How to Take the Gun Out of the Box By CJ Barringer, NRA Instructor
TAKE THE WRONG WAY HOME! The father of one of my son’s friends worked for the Feds, not sure which branch, but he shared this strategy: He always took a different route home. Every day. Maybe his route only varied by a street or two, but he drove a different route every day.
One of my friends owns a helicopter service. One day he took a few of the First Responders from the local fire department on a quick flight around the airport. The fire department needed to identify access routes to the airport in case of accidents, crashes, fires, and other emergencies. The road they had planned to use was blocked by a fallen tree, broken pavement, locked gate. The flight provided critical information. Time to identify a different route or maybe two.
Do you know your neighborhood well? I mean without GPS. Some people use GPS to get to familiar locations, like the grocery store or cleaners. Using GPS like that can permanently shut off parts of your brain. I am not sure if some people would even notice. But the point is, you might want to drive different routes home. Construction, traffic backups, accidents, flooding, fallen trees, or even a chemical spill from a semi might block your way.
To paraphrase Burt Gummer, the expert survivalist from Tremors, “A man’s got to know his environment.” Other strategies you might want to try:
• Know where you are going and have alternate routes – at least 3.
• If you are traveling someplace new, find out as much as you can about the area.
• Do not rely totally on GPS – learn to read a map.
• Park in a well-lit area. Remember where you parked – take a photo.
• Learn how to get to the closest hospitals, police stations, gas stations.
• If you think you are being followed, do not drive home. Go to the nearest police station or 24-hour restaurant and call 911.
DID YOU KNOW?
WILD CAMELS IN TEXAS??? SERIOUSLY!
In 1855, Congress allocated $30,000 to import camels from Egypt. At that time, the government was charting the rugged terrain of the desert southwest.
The army speculated that camels would survive better in the desert than horses. By 1857, the US Army had approximately 70 camels and the surveying was going well.
Then the Civil War broke out. In the resulting disorder and confusion, some the camels escaped into the wild and became feral. The wild camel herds roamed Texas for 100 years. The last wild camel was sighted in 1941.

League is almost done, and running rather swimmingly, considering all the rain we’ve had. You know… 1. When it rains, we get wet. 2. When it rains, we get skeeters. 3. When it rains, you only smile if
you’re wining. 4. When it rains, we can’t shoot. 5. When it rains, we just can’t

MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY’S REPORT: Doc Johnson Doc presented the recap report as 463 of the 1,000 limit per current By-Laws for a total of 905 members, including 193 Regular, 190 Working & 423 Senior class members. Dues are still being collected. Doc gave the report on dues collected so far. As of this meeting, we have collected $71,783 of the $118,275 projected dues for this year. Just to give you a few figures it costs $187,000 a year just to keep the club open, lights, phone, waste disposal, heat, taxes, so dues are not even covering our basic expenses. Doc stated the membership database is giving him problems again in some of the reports. Lastly, Doc stated that if you have not paid your dues yet they are late and a $25.00 assessment will be charged. You have until September 1st to pay before being suspended.

MLCA President Larry Gray called the meeting to order at 8:01 p.m. Larry led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Conservation Pledge. Larry then recognized Past Presidents in attendance: Dave Fisher, John Miller, Sam Mullins, Pat Regan, & Jim Kirn. Larry welcomed everyone. Since there was no quorum reading of the minutes and treasures report were postponed.
Chaplain’s Report: Larry informed the membership of the passing of member Joe Gabrys #95-57 on April 28,2021, and Chris Paulson brother of members Bob, Rick, and Mike uncle of Chris and Jack Paulson. A moment of silence was observed.
PRESIDENT’s REPORT: Larry Gray Larry asked everyone to start thinking about the future of the club, not just a year, but 5 – 10 years in the future. We need to preserve this club for our children and grandchildren. Larry asked how much it takes to keep the club open. He stated it takes approximately $187,000 just for the basic operation of the club, utilities, taxes, insurance, and such. Dues collected are only about $72,000, so dues do not even cover our basic expenses. Larry stated we need to either raise dues, add more members or think of new creative ways to bring income to the club. Larry asked the members to come up with a way to raise an additional $150.00 per member, and for each of us to sponsor a new member. Contact Larry by email or phone with ideas his email and phone is in the Multi-Laker.
RECORDING SECRETARY: No report. Rich Johnson in Jim’s absence – Jim is in the hospital out of state right now we wish him a speedy recovery.
MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY: Doc Johnson Doc recognized new members in attendance. The recap report: 934 total members; 461 of the 1,000 limit per our current By-Laws. 193 Regular, 423 Senior and 190 Working members. Next new member meeting will be at the end of September. Dues are being taken. If you haven’t paid your dues they are late, and a $25 late fee will apply per current By-Laws.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Jim Howie Jim presented a synopsis of our financial standings. He said we had a good June and the Gun Bash brought in about $25,000. It shows the key to our future is participation in club functions. June income $159,817 with expenses of $118,559 yielding a net of $41,258 in our favor. Our YTD shows us @ $43,480 net. Bingo, Fish Fry, Car Cruise and Country Breakfast are back in operation providing more opportunities to support the club and our financial rebuild. Don’t forget to but daily raffle tickets.
OPERATION MANAGER’s REPORT: Dave Fisher Dave reported that he needs to inform the membership about: Life memberships are available, they are for members that have been a member for 30 years over 62 years old and have been active for 10 of the last 15 years. Nomination forms are available in the in the slot by the bar door and turn into one of the past presidents. One of the things we do here is memorial luncheons for members or their immediate family that pass away. This is
done at no cost to the family, but donations are accepted. We do all the food and set up the room. Contact one of the club managers or the memorial committee to set this up. Rockin’ Under the Stars is on August 7th and we need lots of help. Please, if that night is available, come out and help the club. It’s actually a lot of fun. There are two good bands – Magic Bus and Power Play.
EARLY DRAW: $170.00 , if you have your name tag on its an additional $25: Ian Mitchell #279 Ian missed out this month.
VICE PRESIDENT’s REPORT: John Miller John mentioned the next .22 Sport Shoot is 8/14/21 with registration @ 9:00 and first shot downrange @ 10:00. John asked if there was interest in a running deer shoot league.
Bingo needs help badly. They are looking to do four 3-4 man crews so you only have to work 1 week a month. If you are interested in helping, contact chairman Joe Magalski or Dave Fisher.
Work-Bee is this Sunday. If you shoot on range two (2) please don’t move the
shooting benches down range. They are too heavy for the crews to move back and are hard to cut the grass around. If you want a bench to shoot from down range there are some plastic folding tables in the range house that you can use then return to the building.
Tonight’s attendance: Members=87, New Members=8, Guests=11 and Windsor=0.
