    Will GERMAN RearmamentStop Russia?

Ameri, -an leaders baue decided that Germany must be rearmed to save theworld! Can Germany be trusted with a gun? Here's what prophecy says!

    By Herman L Hoeh

COMMUNISM is spreading in Asia.Fear is gripping the world. Billions of Amer ican tax dollarsyour tax dollars--are being spent to ward mil itary and economic aid in Asiaand Europe. Germany is to be rearmed! But Communism continues to engulfthe entire Orient. These are foreboding signs of worlddisaster.

How YOU and your family will spendthe remaining years of your lives depends on the management of the present world struggle. Yet the stark truthis tha t Western leaders, in w ho se handsyour future rests, do NOT understand thesignificance of the desperate action theyare employing to defeat Communismthe rea rm am en t of G erma ny .

The Two Great QuestionsHere are the two questions of thehour t hat all of us mus t face:( 1) Can the USA create the kind ofpower, before it is toO late, that willcrush Russia's bid for world rule?(2) Can the English-speaking worldguide and direct the gigantic militarymachine be ing built in Europe againstthe Soviet Union?Unless America can come forth withthe kind of power [() surround andstamp out Communism-unless Arneri-

ca can prevent the rise of Fascism rnEurope, WE ARE DOOMED!These problems can 't be solved unt ilwe learn the WHY'S of world events.Do you know why the United Statesfailed to stop Communism in the FarEast? Why the second largest polit icalparty in India today is the Communistparty, even though we are sending untold thousands of tons of gra in to India

to feed her s tarving millions? WhyFrance is failing to stem the Communistic revoir in French Indo-China orwhy Indonesia is afraid to commit herself openly against Russia, despi te ourparr in aiding her to gain independence? Above all, why is Germany sowilling to rearm? These are the WHY'S that confront ourdiplomats-the diplomats who thinkthat the kind of p ow er to stop Communism is military and economic only, thediplomats who fondly believe that Russia's foes must be our friends!

The Fate of AsiaLet's glance at Asia. Western diplomats are beginning to realize that theprestige of the United States is fast sinking in the Orient. Our military and economic aid-material assistance-hasfailed to stamp out communism in China or Korea.

Think of it! Enfeebled China, the nation that was overrun for nearly a decadeby the armies of Japan, has frustratedthe attempts of rhe United States to defeat Communism in Korea. Imaginewhat Russian propaganda is foist ing onrhe Oriental mind which has learned todespise the "white man's burden."While America sends bullets and tokeneconomic aid, the Russians spread deceitful propaganda.Communism is appealing to theFAITH of the Asiatic peoples. I t is adevilish faith. The FAITH tha t they canconquer their own problems and overthrow Western "domination" by theirh um an stren gt h!Yes, Communism appeals to faith, faith in the power of MAN-the ORI-ENTAL MAN-to change this world! Butwhat does the United Stares send theOrient? Not a more powerful or a r ight eous and Godly faith, but guns andmoney!

The Soviet Union knows that theUnited States can not supply Asia's desperate millions with enough food. Sheknows that the United States is UNWILLING to send enough military equipment to the Far East to offset progressiveSoviet dominion. But the only po we rthat the United States could provide theAsiatics to defeat Communism-the

The democracies have a dying faith, motivated by dead u.orl:s. We don't havethe kind of faith. nor the works, theknowledge, to change AJia.

Faith in World PoliticsOur political leaders do not unders tand the power of faith in world affairs. Faith in an idea, the Communisticidea of MAN, is winning against thebul le ts of the West.Stalin is nor trying to fight a war ofbullets, but a war of IDEAS.America's religious leaders are responsible for this insipid, spirituallydead concept of f reedom that grips us.

We ate being taught faith withoutworks. We are taught that religion hasno part in political affairs,The evil fai th of Communism in the

power of man to regulate his destinies, the faith that Oriental religions haveno r provided in the past. That new poiron fait/; t s reaching the human heartsof alm ost a bil lion people.

It lives, as a cancer lives, and spreads.Under the lead of Russia, all Asia isbecoming it/ire, even as cancerousgrowth in the world system. He r peoples have found an active faith in thedoctr ines of Communism. Amid thei rpoverty. they have something to live for. They can change their environment.

Those who oppose Communism areliquidated, or starved in slave laborcamps. But that is the price Orientalsare willing to pay, It is easy for them todestroy the enemies of their new faithsince they have cont inua lly been surrounded by famine and death. Death isno great tragedy. in their eyes. How Russia Is Conquering

Half the WorldChina is stronger than she has everbeen. Her people. deceived by lying Soviet propaganda, have yielded themselves to leaders who dared to thwartthe United States. China is united andher troublesome warlords no longerplague her. Only a few hundred thousand soldiers of isolated Nationalistarmies roam remote countrysides.Communist China has conquered Tibet.Communism is today perched on thehighest mountains in the world, overlooking the teeming mill ions of India.

The GOOD NEWSThrough satanic faith, active beliefin the power of Communism, Chinesetechnicians' are daring to cross the borders of Indo-China to direct the VietMinh rebel lion against France, just thesame as they inv.aded Korea to attackthe United Nations. It is no wonder that Russian propaganda is succeeding in Asia. Imagine

France, one of the leading powers of theworld, suffer ing mil itary defea ts at thehands of Indo-Chinese!With rebellion occurring in Malaya, with China threatening in a very fewyears to conquer Nepal and Burma, isthere any wonder that Indonesia is afraidto take sides with the United States?

Over in Ind ia , the shipments of gra inwe are sending to the Hindus-supposed to fill stomachs so that Communism can not fill minds-what reasoning!-our grain shipments are failing tostem the growth of Communism. Benevolent Unc le Sam does nor seem torealize that the annual increase in India 'spopulation more than absorbs the foodshipments we make her. Neither do thelittle men in Washington real ize thata lmost every re ligious fai th in Ind ia is adead faith. There is no ac tion, no will tosucceed. Intolerance and bigotry fill thereligious minds of her peoples. All thegrain in the world will nor offset thisdeen-roored i t1toler:lnce ~ 1 g : l i n\;( anorh-er's'religion.

What Communism OffersBut Communism has something to offer. It p roposes to unshackle the Indianfrom his reliRiouJ bigotry. which is the

Callie of his political and economic backwardness. Communism will solve thisproblem by force. With lying propaganda, Communists are al ready influencing a small minority to cast theirlives with the Communist cause.

Communist success in India will comewhen Nehru's Congress Parry proves itself unequal to the task of stabilizingIndia's economy.

The Hindus themselves have laid thefoundation of Communist conquest bycracking the caste system that has boundthe people to ignorance and poverty.Although there is still TIME to thwartRussia's designs on India. Western diplomats are failing to comprehend thesolut ion to Ind ia 's d ilemma. She will belost to the Western world within fiveyears, according to Russian hopes. Thatis, UNLESS AMERICA SUPPLIES INDIA'S

PEOPLE W ITH A new, dynamic, andLIVING FAITH. Sad to say, the prophecies ot the Bible reveal that Americanleaders do not have what it taees to saveIndia from Communism. How can thi snation create in the Indian heart a livingfaith, when America does not even havefaith in its God?

April, 1952We Were Trie d. a nd Found Wanting

For two centuries the Western Worldhas dominated the Orient, but we havefailed to deliver its peoples from misery.Hence, the deception of Communismlooks alluring to ignorant and even educated minds who have no hope in God.

The dead faith of missionaries fromAmerica and England has not dentedOriental thought, but the active beliefof Communists is moving India's millions. Belief in Communism, whichmeans FAITH IN MAN, transcends theborders of nations. It knows no nationalboundaries. All the expendi tu res in the wor ld cannot cope wi th Russia's influence in theFar East, unless we spread a more powerful faith to combat Soviet propaganda. The Uni ted States might as well facethe facts. THERE IS NO HUMAN WAYFOR THE WESTERN WORLD TO RESCUEASIA FROM THE CLUTCHES OF STALIN'SHANDS.Realizing that our Asiatic wallaround Russia is crumbling. our leadersare desperately trying to strengthen thefortress of Europe instead.

What About Europe?Although American help continues ro

pour into Asia to no lasting avail, becaase Stalin iJ not fightinR our kind ofua t , Europe is an emirdy differentstory.Russia is not sending her Europeansatellites against the United States,There IS no active war in Europe because Russia is not intending to conquerEurope immediately. Stalin knows thatsuch an act would provoke world war.European defenses are being strengthened, financially, economically and po-litically. Europe , the Near East andNorth Afri ca are r ega rded as the mostdefensible par ts of the mil itary per imeter surrounding Russia. Americanstrength is building a gigantic war machine in Europe ostensibly to protectcivilization. Weare endeavoring to rearm our former foes, Germany and Italy.

The quest ion that President Trumanand Secretary Acheson and you face iscausing careful observers to tremble!DoeJ America dare arm Germany? Can we unit e Europe and guide thecolossal mil ita ry machine we envi sionthere by 1955- Will Germany, once rearmed, side with Russia in order to uniteherself? Or will she fai thful ly supportthe West? Or is it possible that a unitedEurope, strengthened with an armedG,.,rmany. could get our of British and

    And Now .... ON TOEUROPE!

Plans now being laid to broadcast and publish the Original True GOSPELfor the first time in 1800 years to all Europe. Britain-the lJery landswhere the Apostles preached! It must go in MIGHTY POWER!

By Herbert W. ArmstrongAT LAST, plans are beginning to take.n..definite shape to open up over allEurope-over the very landswhere the original Apostles preachedover all the British Isles-behind theIron Curtain into RUSSIA and Communist countries, the most dynamic, sweeping, powerful, world-shaking Gospel campaign in 1800 years!Five years ago Mrs. Arms trong and Iwent to England, Switzerland, Italy,

France. We made a thorough pre limi nary survey of the possibilities. Menhigh in governments, key newspapermen, radio men, were interviewed. Weinvestigated thoroughly to determinethe most st rategic site for the Europeanheadquarter s for this g rea test work onearth. At Last, Almost Ready!

But we were not p repared to open upin Europe then. I had no other ministersto help me. One man alone couldn't carry the preaching, wr it ing , pub li shing, broadcasting, and all the other phases ofso great a work to all America, and toBritain, to Europe, and the rest of theworld.

We returned to America in March,1947. Then we plunged full speedahead into the big task of establi shing, organizing and building AmbassadorCollege in beautiful Pasadena. We metunexpected blocks, obstacles, difficultieswhich wuuld discourage the stoutestheart. Thru the grace of God the collegeopened its doors on the sl ight ly delayeddate of October 8 that year. We didn'ttell you, then, how few studen ts we had-it seemed too discouraging. Therewere only four. But they were the fourGod wamecl-the four He sent. How,following tha t, even more ter rible opposition and difficulty confronted usduring those first two or three years, our readers already know-and youknow how God sustained us, deliveredus, preserved His college! Today Ambassador College is a fine, growing ins ti tu tion full of v igor and life. To dateit has shown a more remarkable recordof growth and development than mostof our famous large colleges clicl whenthey started.

Now, at last, I have trained HELP' Atlast this grea t work has the called, consecrated, competent , t ra ined minis terscoming along to make it possible to carry this world-shaking Message beyondrhe seas and to all the world! In two orthree more years we shall have severalsuch men!

Two Men to EuropeThis summer, God making it possible,

two of those four pioneer students , whoopened this college with only half asmany students as professors, will go toEurope. Plans will be further developedtoward launching this mighty campaignto make the Old World conscious, after]800 years, of the dynamic Message ofChri st, which has been buried under anavalanche of pagan supers ti tions these1800 years'These men now going to Europe ascollege graduates are Herman L. Hoehand our son, Richard David-always familiarly called "Dick:' As this is written,we still have to rely upon God to moveDick 's draft board to grant permissionfor him to leave the United States. Mr.Hoeh's permit to go just arrived fromhis draft board as this was wri tten .As an example of how their heartsare in this European crusade, both ofthese young men are putting their entire savings into the expenses of thismission to Europe. In each case this willamount to about three- four ths of thecost of the ir travel fare over and back,so that this expense will not have tocome out of the Gospel work going outhere in the United States.

Purposes of Present MissionOne purpose of the t rip this year is tofurther prepare the way to launch thebig campaign in Europe , which we now

hope may get under way full power bynext year. Another purpose is to observe, invest igate, and repor t on world condit ions in Europe which are rapidly bringing to fulf il lment the Bible prophecies. We will broadcast their reports to youregularly. They will speak to you overthe air, d irect from Europe by tape recording, reporting to you what they arefinding over there while on the sPOt.

Mr. Hoeh, a nat ive of Cal ifornia, is ofGerman parentage, and instructor in theGerman language in the college. He willmake every effort to learn what really isdeveloping, UNDERGROUND, in the Naziplans to regain control and revive theirfanatical crusade to conquer Britain,America, and the world. He will be ableto meet and talk with Germans just asif he were one of them. We believe hewill learn a lot that is of real worldshaking importance, which never wouldcome to l ight rhru regular news-reponing channels.Dick has studied the French languagefor eight years. He is to teach first yearFrench at the college beginning nextfall. It is necessary that he actually livein France a few weeks, mingling andtalking wit h the French people themse!ves, F r ~ p ~ r ~ : o r y tv this tCCichlilgsignment. Fresh from France, he willcertainly make the first-year Frenchclass sparkle with interest.

Radio LUXEMBOURGIn the tiny nat ion of Luxembourg, inthe very heart of Europe, bordering onFrance, Germany, and Belgium-comprising only 998 square miles and 300,000 people-are two giant super-powerradio stations, each of 150,000 watts.

That is the same power as XEG,XERF, and XELO, and three times morepowerful than anything in the Unit ed.States. These, so far as we know, are theonly stations in Europe on which timemay be purchased for broadcast ing theGospel.Besides English, Mr. Hoeh speaksGerman, Spanish and French, and Dickspeaks French rather well. These twomen, with these languages, can be understood by a large majority of all thepeople of Europe. Our giant Mexicanradio stations bring us hundreds of letters from Canadian listeners. The Luxembourg stations are the same greatpower. That means they are heard clearacross Europe, and on past the Iron Curtain, past Moscow, Russia. They areheard down south thru Italy, and acrossthe Mediterranean into all of NorthAfrica, and as far east as Egypt, and AsiaMinor (where the Apost le Paul raised

Wehave had to grow slowly, gradually, steadily, in experience and in knowhow. We have had to continually acknowledge and purge out error, and beable to recognize and accept light andtruth new to us, without being sidetracked into false doctrines. We have had to be PREPARED for thegigantic WORLD-WIDE mission by first

WHERE Did God Command YOUto Observe Easter?

Christ did not rise on Easter Sunday! Here's an articleexplaining what Christ did command His church to observe

    By Herbert W. Armstrong

H AVE you ever s topped to considerwhy you believe the things youbelieve?Where did you learn the custom ofobserving Easter?"I learned it from chi ldhood," you reply. Of course you learned it f rom childhood. Bur where did the custom really

originate? You have supposed it was part of thetrue Christian religion to observe Easter,"Good Friday," Lent and "Holy Week";to have colored Easte r eggs, to dress upand go to Church Eas ter Sunday. Yes,you have supposed the Bible taughtthese customs. But where did God ever commandyOll to keep any of them?

The Meaning of EasterFrom a child yOll have been led to believe that "Easter" signified the resurrection of Christ. For 1600 years the western world has been taught tha t Jesusrose from the dead on Sunday morning. These are merely some of the fables

that the apostle Paul never taught. Ifyou really want to know when Jesus didrise from the dead, write immediatelyfor the astonishing proof in our freebooklet, "The Resurrection."The name "Faster" is merely a slightly changed English spelling of the nameof the anc ient Assyrian goddess lsbtar. As Hislop says in The Two Babylons,Easter "bears its Chaldean origin on itsvery forehead. Easter is nothing elsethan Astarte, one of the titles of Beltis, the 'queen of heaven,' whose name, aspronounced by the people of Nineveh, was evidently identical with that now incommon use in this country."Easter, according to Webster's dictionary, comes "from the name of the oldTeuton goddess of spr ing." You probably never were taught that, were you?Bur if Easter came from a pagan origin, where did we get Lent?No t from the true church! For Cassianus, who wrote in the fifth century, says,"I t ought to be known th at the observance of the forty days (Lent) had no existence, so long as the perfection of thatprimi tive Church remained inviolate."Jesus never observed Lent, nor didthe apostles.

"The forty days' abstinence of Lentwas directly borrowed from the worshippers of the Babylonish goddess. Such aLent of forty days, 'in the spring of theyear,' is still observed by the Yezidis orpagan Devil-worshippers of Koordistan, who have inhe rit ed it from their earlymasters, the Babylonians." (From Hislop's The Two Babylons, pp. 104, 105 .)Lent came from the ancient h ea th ensun-worship, not from Jesus Christ. Thesame is true of the use of hot cross buns,of dyed eggs and the Easter sunriseservices. You will want to learn manymore facts about these pagan customsthat can't be included in this short article.Write tor the t ree booklet, "Easte r isPagan," which explains these and manymore facts you surely need to know.

Apostles Observed PassoverInstead of observing the customs ofthe churches of our day, the original,in.rpired church, under the gu idance ofthe Apostles observed the Passover asJesus commanded on the eve before hisdeath. Even the writers of the Encyclo-paedia Britannica, 11th edition, realized

that when writ ing their article, "Easter":"There is no indicat ion of the observance of the Easte r festival in the New

Testament, or in the writings of theApostolic Fathers. . . . The first Christians- con ti nued the observance of theJewish (that is, God's) festivals, thoughin a new spirit, as commemorations ofevents which those festivals had foreshadowed."Yes, the true, original church kept thePassover annually when God commanded. It was years later, a fte r the death ofthe Apostles, after many Gentil es hadmade a profess ion of fai th , that we findthe observance of Easter beginning. TheGentiles began observing the day onSunday, rather than on the eve of the

14th day of God's first month , whenJesus always kept the passover, settingus an example. A controversy then arosebetween these Gentiles, who werebringing pagan cus toms into the Western or Catholic churches, and those whostill remained faithful to the instructionsof Jesus and the Apostles.

Here is a brief sketch showing howthe "Easter" t hat you have been t augh tf rom childhood crept into the churches:"Polycarp, the disciple of John theEvangelist, and bishop of Smyrna, visited Rome in 159 to confer with Anicetus, the bishop of that see, on the subject, and urged the t rad it ion which hebad received from the apostle of observing the 14th day. . A final settlementof the d ispu te was one among the otherreasons which led Constantine to summon the counci l of Nicaea in 325....The deci sion of the counci l was unanimous tha t Easter was to be kept on Sunday, and on the same Sunday throughoutthe world, and that 'none hereaftershould follow the blindness of theJews. '' ' (From the 11th edi tion, art ic le"Easter," Ency. Brir.)

That, in pbin language, is how theCatholic Church decreed that noneshould follow the ways of Christ-of theTRUE Chri sti an Church' Tha t's wherethe universal custom of observing Easterin the churches began.

It Was ProphesiedThis astonishing account of the injection of Easter into the church, whichwill be much more thoroughly documented in our free booklet, "Easter isPagan," was prophesied by Jesus and theApostles. They did not tell of a widespread, popular growth of the true NewTestament Church, bur of A FALLING

AWAY FROM THE TRUTH on the part ofthe great major ity. Prophesying of thisuniversal FALLING AWAY f rom the fai thJesus de live red for you and me to keep,Paul wrote the Thessalonians, "the mys-tery of iniquity doth already work," onlysome 30 years a fte r the Church began! He refer red to the very "Chaldean Mysteries," of which Easter and Chr istmaswere the two chief festivals! In another place, Paul wrote Timothy, that "many shall follow their perniciousways." So today, it's the many, not thefew, who are going the wrong way. It isthe many who are keeping Easter, whichGod never once commanded you; butit is the few who are observing the ordinance Christ commanded.

Remember, the broad way leads todestruction. Let's quit these pagan cus-

Wha t God D id CommandThe "Lord's Supper," Of the Passover,as the ordinance should proper ly becalled, has fallen into the mire of erroneous tradition. On thi s, as on everypractice, Jude exhorts "that ye shou ld

contend earnest ly for the fai th whichwas once del ivered to the saints."Now that we know the pagan originof the Easter celebration, let 's clear awaythe web of error that covers the truth

about keeping the passover, the memorial of Christ' s death.Let's examine the way Jesus observedthis ordinance, because we can't bewrong if we follow His example. InLuke 22: 14-20. we read, "And whenthe h ou r ura; come, Jesus sat down. . . .And He took bread , and gave thanks, and break it, and gave unto th em, saying, This is my body which is given foryou: this do in remembrance of me.Likewise also th e cup af ter supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in myblood, which is shed for you,"Notice. it was "when the hour wascome," that Jesus int roduced the un

leavened bread and the wine. There wa sa DEFINITE TIME-a definite hou r -when He held this ordinance as an ex-ample for III'.Notice, too, I ie conuuandcci them toobserve it-"THIS DO!" And why? "In

remembrance of me," said Jesus . He instituted this New Tes tament way ofkeeping the Passover, on that tragicnight, the very eve of His death. In Matthew's account, the Bible showst ha t thi s ordinance was at the very timeof the passover, "as they were eating."

(Mart. 26:2,26) Jesus knew that Histime had come. He was our passover, sacrificed fm us. (I Cor. 5: 7)The passover had always been held onthe eve of t he 14th of God's first month.I t was rhe night of the final and lastpassover suppe r t ha t Jesus introducedth es e NEW TESTAMENT emblems-the

unleavened bread and the wine-inplace of t he lamb th at was always slainannually. For a full explanation of the originalPassover as God instituted it, write immediat ely, by air mail, so you will learnhow to keep t he New Testament formof this ordinance yet thi s spr ing. Remember Jesus commanded: "this do inremembrance of me." Why? Becausethe Passover was commanded "FOREVER."The Passover was to be observed an-nually, along with the days of un leav

ened bread. "Thou shalt therefore keepthis ordinance in his season year toyear." (Ex. 13: 10 ) .Jesus set us an example (1 Peter 2: 21 t , observing thisordinance at the same time once a year.

The GOOD NEWS(Luke 2: 42) Suppose the Israelites II IEgypt had observed this ordinance atsome other time than that set by God?They would no t have been saved whenthe death angel passed by that night!God does things ON TIME.He has givenus an exact time for this ordinance.Jesus instituted the New Testamentsymbols "when the hour was come."

The Ordinance of HumilityIn giving us their account, Matthew,

Mark and Luke describe t he t ak ing ofunleavened bread and wine, Bu t J ohnrelates another part of this ordinance. In t he 13th chapter of John we noticethat after the Passover supper was ended(verse 2), Jesus took a towel (verse 4)and began to wash Hi s disciples' feet(verse 5) ."So after he had washed their feet, andhad taken his garments, and was setdown aga in, he said unto them, Knowye what I have done to you? Ye call meMaster and Lord, and ye say well; for soI am. If I, then, your Lord and Masrerhave washed your feet; ye also ought towash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, THAT YE SHOULDDO AS I HAVE DONE TO YOU," (John13: 12-15)If any of you are wondering if thisordinance of humility is a command toyou, then turn to Matthew 28: 19)0.Here Jesus said to these same disciples:"Go ye the re fo re , and teach all na tions ,baptizing them . . . teaching them toobserve all t hi ng s tab atsoeuer 1 h.n.commanded YOU." SO they were to teachus to observe ALL things WHATSOEVERJesus commanded them!Kept Once a Year in th e

Apostolic ChurchIn I Cor. 5: 7,8, Paul tells the Corin

thians: "Christ our passover is sacrificedfor us. Therefore let us keep t he feast,no t with old leaven . . . but w it h theunleavened bread of sincerity and truth."And in t he 11t h ch ap ter he gives thedirections regarding this ordinance. Some misunderstand verse 26 whichsays: "As often as ye eat this bread anddrink this cup," by interpreting it "take. it as often as you wish ." But it does notJay t ha t!It says "as often" as you observe it,"ye do show the LORD'S DEATH till Hecome." Even Jesus commanded, "this doye, as of t as ye drink it, in remembranceof me." (verse 25) We do it in remem

brance of THE LORD'S DEATH-a memorial of His death. As you know, me-morials are celebrated annually, once ayear, on the ANNIVERSARY of the eventscommemorated. This nation sets asideevery July 4th as a special day of commemoration. So we observe the memorial of Christ's death annually. And JUSt asoften as each year comes around we are

April, 1952to "show the Lord's death till He come,"by keeping this memorial.Christ insti tuted this ordinance onthe EVE OF HIS DEATH. It' was t he 14thof Abib, by God's sacred calendar, in thevery beginning of the day. God startsdays at sunset, not midnight. So, later

that same day, after Jesus had gone outto Gethsemane, Judas Iscariot led thecrowd to seize Jesus. Then He was crucified l ater tha t same day, in the daylightpart of this same 14th of the monthAbib.By following the example of Jesus inobserving this sacred ordinance at thesame time He did-the very same timethe passover was forever commanded tobe observed-we continue to rememberHi s death, annually, on the eve of thecrucifixion. Some always question the meaning ofPaul in verses 27-29, in I Corinthians11. The apostle is nut speaking about aChris tian being worthy or unworthy totake it. It is speaking of the manner inwhich it is done. We t ake it unworthilyif we take it wrongly, in the wrongmanner. Once we l ea rn the truth aboutits observance , and yet take it at anyother time than wha t God says, then wetake it unworthily. We take it unworthily if we do not accept the body andblood of Christ. So let's not take rhismost sacred ordinance to our condemnation, but take it worthily instead!

"Easter" a MistranslationFollowing rhe example of Jesus and

the apostles, the early Church observedthe Passover, and the days of unleavenedbread which immediately followed. Notice Acts 12: 3. The Holy Spiri t of Godinspi red these words : "Then were thedays of unleavened bread." But in thenext verse we read of "Easter."We have JUSt seen that "Easter" was

injected into the church years after thetime of Christ. This word "Easter" is aMISTRANSLATION. The original Greekword is "pasha" meaning PASSOVER. Inevery other place, exactly the same wordis used in the original and always rendered PASSOVER, Many o th er translations faithfully render this verse in Actsas "intending after the Passover to bringh im for th to the people." So this verse, instead of memioning Easter, reallyproves that the church, ten years afterthe death of Chr is t, was still observingPassover. What Does "Break Bread" Mean? There are some denominations thatread Acts 20: 7 as a proof that the"Lord's Supper" should be taken eachSunday morning. First not ice that thiswas a ft er t he days of unleavened bread

(verse 6) . Paul was preaching a farewell meeting , not on Sunday morning,Pl ease c on ti nu e on page 1()

Have YOU an Immortal Soul?By Elise Bernard

A LITTLE boy once asked me,"What will happen when I die? Will I go to heaven the very second my breath goes away, or what?"Those are questions that have been ofgrave concern to humanity for ages andthey still exist today. Just what does theBible say concerning immortality?

What the Bible SaysIf you will look in a dictionary youwill find that immortality means unending existence. In other words an immortal being is one that will live forever. Most preachers today proclaim inthe pulpit and over large radio stationsthat man has an "immortal soul"; that atdeath he will e ither go to heaven or helland burn forever.Bur do you know what the Bible saysconcerning this? "For the wages of sinis death bur the gift of God is eternallife." (Romans 6:23.) If a personhad eternal life abiding in him, howwould he receive the wages of hIS sinswhich is death? Can death mean eternal life, separated from God, in "hell fire"? Notobere inthe Bible ran yuu find such a statement.Man is not immortal! But I can tell youwho would like for you to believe thatyou are-Satan the devil, the DECEIVERof the human race! He was the first topropagate such a story when he beguiled

Eve.Remember, God told Adam not toeat of the tree of the knowledge ofgood and evil. God said, "But of thetree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the daythou earest thereof thou shalt surelyDIE," (Genesis 2: 17. )How "Immortal Soul" Teaching

StartedWe know that God cannot lie (Titus1:2) so when he promises some thing itmust come to pass. But Satan had a doctrine of his own. So one day he toldEve when talking to her concerning thisforbidden tree, "Ye shall not surely die:For God doth know that in the day yeeat thereof, then your eyes shall beopened and ye shall be as gods, knowinggood and evil." (Gen. 3:3-5.) The"gods" of mythology were supposed tobe immortal, as GOD is immortal. This is where the doctr ine of immortality started, for here Satan told Eve shewould not die and that she and Adamwould be as gods-which she would ifshe was an immortal soul. This is themessage of Satan the devil! Do you

know that he has his minis ters this veryday proclaiming that message to millionsof people, and they believe it?"In the lat ter times some shall departfrom the faith, giving heed to seducingspirits and doctrines of devils:" (I Tim.4: 1. ) Satan is described as being a liarfrom rhe beginning and the father oflies. (John 8: 44. )Yes, God's word speaks plainly aboutthese false teachers by which WE mightbe deceived in these end times. So let us"prove ALL things"! "For the time willcome when they will not endure sounddoctrine: but after their own lusts shallthey heap to themselves teachers, havingitching ears; and they shall turn awaytheir ears from the truth, and shall beturned unto fables." (II Tim. 4: 3, 4.)

The Truth Is PlainThe t ru th is clearly revealed in theBible. Quoting I Corinthians 15:52-55

    - "We shall not all sleep, but we shallall be changed . . . and this mortalmust put on immortality." When? Atthe last trumpet when Jesus Christ shall"Come in all his glory and all the holyangels wi th him" to reward every manaccording as his work shall be. Remember that the reward or gift of God iseternal life or immortality.Since this refers to mortal man JUStwhat does the word mortal mean? Thedictionary states that it refers to onewho is "liable to death" or one that candie. The Bible repeatedly states tha tman is flesh and blood and that Godformed him of the dust of the ground. That in the end he shall turn to dustagain. (Genesis 3: 19.) God did notput in man some immortal spirit separate from the body but he breathed intohis nostrils the breath of life and "manbecame a living soul." (Gen. 2:7 .) Thisbreath is wind as stated in Ezekiel 37:910. Ezekiel was commanded by God"Then said he unto me, prophesy untothe wind, prophesy, son of man and sayto the wind, Thus saith the Lord God:Come from the four winds, 0 breathand breathe upon these slain that theymay live . . . and the breath came intothem and they lived." There it is, inplain language. The people were dead, without life, and the wind came withinthem and they lived. The wind, orbreath, is what oxidizes our blood andgives us life. Stop a person from breathing and he wil l DIE.

The Soul Can DieThe soul is not separate from the body

for "the soul that sinnerh it shall die"(Ezekiel 18:4 , 20). Even the Biblemakes a plain statement that the soulcan die! Do you have faith in God'sword, or the teachings of men?The soul suffers hunger (Proverbs

19:15) and thirst (Proverbs 25:25).The life of all flesh is in the blood (Lev.17: 11). Jesus poured out his soul iIifeblood) for our sins (Isaiah 53: 12).This is conclusive evidence that the soulcan mean the animal life which is contained in the blood. Tn verse 10, "Whenthou shalt make his soul an offering forsin," refers to Chris t as the lamb and hisbody that was offered for our sins. Therefore the soul here refers toChrist's body. The Bible states definitely "that whichbefalls man befalls the beast." As onedies so dies the other and they all haveone breath! All go unto one 'place. Allare of the dust and all t urn to dust again(Ece. 3:19-20).The Bible makes it very clear tha t inthe very day a man dies his thoughtsperish. "Hi s breath goerh forth, he re

rurncth to his eanh;in that very day histhoughts perish." (Psalms 146:4). Afterdeath man does not even rememberanything "for in death there is no reomembrance of thee" (Psalms 6:5).Job knew that his life was wind for hesaid "0 remember that my life is wind"(Job 7:7).

Jesus Said So!Jesus told Nicodemus, "That which isborn. of the jlesb is flesh: and that whichis born of the Spirit is spirit." (John3:6). He didn't say man was flesh andspiri t, but just plain flesh. Note how hedescribes the man of the spirit-"thewind bloweth where it lis teth and thouhearesr the sound thereof, but canst nottell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is everyone that is born of thespirit" (John 3:8). To put it in theEnglish of our modern times, spir itua lor immortal man just can't be seenwith human eyes. But Jesus goes on further and says "except a man be born ofwater and of the spirit, he cannot enterinto the kingdom of God." (John 5:5) .So man will be made spirit-but when?I Corinthians 15: 53-55 is describingthe second coming of Chr ist at the lasttrumpet when "this corruptible must puton incorruption, and this mortal mustput on immortali ty." Paul states in thischapter that flesh and blood (naturalman) cannot inherit the kingdom ofPlease continue on page 10

What This Location MeansWas it a coincidence? Just before thecollege opened in 1947, Holiday magazine devoted an entire section to education in America. It made the statementin summarizing educational advantagesin America that the most desirable location in the nation for founding a newcollege or university is Pasadena. Here in beautiful Pasadena is foundevery advantage any college could wish,

    - t he marvelous climate and sunshine, outdoor l iv ing and recreation, worldfamous astronomical observatories, greatlibraries, noted museums and galleries,near-by mountains and winter spans,beaches-s-every advantage.Pasadena is a cultural communi ty ofbeaut iful s treets and fine homes. Pasadena has less cnrne than any city nearits size in America. There are no slums.Over 70% of its residents own theirown homes. Ther e are no night clubs, not even any dirty local politics, but aprofusion of gardens, nurseries, homes

with spacious and beaut iful lawns. Almost 110 disease. Its people are so different in character from those of Hollywood or Beverly Hills the contrast isstriking. It's the most p leasant place inAmerica to live, wi th every advantageto the student. The college occupies some five acresof magnificently landscaped grounds inthe heart of Pasadena's most famous section of fine homes, mansions, and largeestates. The campus, in its quiet seclusion, with its majestic and stately trees, and lovely contoured carpets of green

lawn, is in walking distance of thecity center, shopping district, City Library, Civic Auditorium and post office. The fine substantial buildings and elaborate landscaping were designed by thenation's top architects, built by nationally known Chicago multimiUionairesactually planned and bui lt as if for ourvery use and purpose-and yet all thishas come into our possession in suchprovidential mariner that it actually hascost us less than nothing to acquire! Thesavings afforded by the facilities here areconsiderably larger than the paymentsfor the properties! The Most Important AdvantageBut the most important thing is notthe beauty of the physical plant. It is theCONCEPT on which this college is built, and the CHARACTER of its s tudents , itsfaculty, and the entire staff which combines to create here perhaps the mostunique family, or little communi ty , inall the world today. These people are all REAL PEOPLE.They're "just folks." They are God's people. But you'll never find around thishappy campus any trace of religioussanctimoniousness. There's no "put-on"pseudo "spir ituality." There is no nar

rowminded prudery. Our fellows are real"he-guys." Our girls-well, they're alljust "MY girls"-the finest I've everknown. They like their share of fun.But they are sincere, they are in earnest- they know what life is all about, itsreal purpose, and are conscious of theirmission in life. They' re common folks, studying hard, working hard, playinghard-wholesome, sincere, REAL FOLKS,appreciat ing deeply and taking full advantage of this marvelous opportuni tyto live and work and play in such a fineand cultural set ting, eager to make the

most of it and the most of their lives. They've learned the joy of the busy, abundant , happy life. There 's a certain"Ambassador spirit," which every newstudent quickly catches. He soon imbibes its vision, understanding, initiative, application, reasoning power, senseof true values, its way of accomplishment, its way of HAPPINESS!Ambassador is a REAL COLLEGE-afull liberal arts inst itu tion, as well as atheological seminary. Its students enjoyall the good things of ANY college campus life, minus the usual evils. But, most of all, it is a CHARACTERBUILDING institution, and a numberof its leading students are rapidly developing into the called, God-chosen,talented, trained, competent ministersof Jesus Chris t who are to carry out theworld-shaking and world-wide GreatFinal Commission, carrying HIS Message of HIS Kingdom into all the worldtor a witness unto ALL NATIONS.

That Delicious Pork Roast-is it a Sin to Eat it?

JVere all animals made clean? What is the meaning of Peter's vision? Here is a straight-forward Bible ansuier, This subject is important to your health and well being!By Rod Meredith and Calvin Allen

"HONEY, that pork roast was sim-ply delicious! " How manyhusbands have made exclama-tions like this about the many meat prod-ucts that come from the hog? Yet somepeople will tell you that any meat com-ing from a hog is not fit to eat! Whydo they say this? The answer to these and othe r vitalquestions concerning your health andalso your relationship to God is found inthe true Bible explanation of Peter'svision. This remarkable event is relatedin the t enth chap ter of Acts.

What Did the Vision Mean?I t is impor tant for you to understandthis vision! It may well affect yourhealth, happiness, and eternal life. Yetthere are many different interpretationsof this vision. \X!hyl God's word saysonly one thing. So let's examine thesescriptures and let the Bible interpret tbeBibleThe story begins in Acts 10: 1 wherewe find that Cornelius was an Italian

soldier. He was an unconverted Italian,a Genti le by race. Dy faith this man wascarrying out many of the duties of aChristian, but he would have to be con-verted-begotten by the Holy Spiri tbecome, thereby, spiritually an Israeliteto be an heir to the promises of God(Gal. 3:29).Do you realize that this unconvertedman was perfo rming some of the mostimportant duties of a real Christian? How many people in our Israelitish landtoday fear and respeer God enough tokeep the laws He gave for ourbenefit? How many are on the givingside? Cornelius gave "much alms" to thepeople (verse 2) . Today people don 'teven give God what actually belongs toHim for the spreading of the gospel(Malachi 3: 8 ). Cornelius "prayed toGod always." This means that he was ina spirit of prayer at all times and spentmuch time down on his knees beforeGod.Most people today pray "my will bedone" instead of God 's will. Yes, manypeople ask God to bring down the otherperson and exalt them. Their prayers areentirely selfish! But Cornelius gave his

money to the needy people and so youcan be assured that his prayers were go-ing out for them. "For where your treas-ure is, there will your heart be also."(Luke 12:34).Notice in verse 4 (Acts 10) that Godremembered the prayers and alms ofCornelius. Men may t reat these thingscheaply. But God doesn't!Cont inu ing through the chapter wefind that Cornelius had a vision in whichan angel instructed him to send some ofhis servants to Joppa to contact Peter. In verse 9, we find that Peter was alsoa man of prayer-the kind of man Goduses in His ministry. What the Vision Was

Pe ter became very hungry while hewas on the housetop for prayer. Godwas preparing him for a revelation inwhich part of God's great plan is re-vealed. Just before noon, Peter fell intoa trance. In vision, he saw heavenopened and a sheet was let down to theearth. This sheet contained ". . . allmanner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air" (verse 12). Noticethis carefully! This sheet containedsnakes, lizards ( creeping things) ,skunks, lions, and all manner of four-footed beasts. The Bible itself shows usthat this sheet did not exclude anysnake, spider, or fowl beast or varmintthat you can imagine! Then, of all things, God commandedPe ter to kill and eat of these creatures! What did Peter say? "Not so, Lord; forI have never eaten any thing that iscalled common or unclean." Pe ter hadlived day and n ight with Jesus for overthree years, so he certainly understoodfrom Christ's teaching that there weresome creatures which are simply not fitfor human food. This was ten years afterall the carnal ordinances were nailed tothe cross, and yet Pet er still knew thatGod's laws of clean and unclean meatswere still in effect. These laws are given in Leviticus 11and Deuteronomy 14. Read them. Theycons titute a message from the Creatortel ling His chi ldren which animals arefit for human consumption, and which

are nor. God had created certain animalsto be eaten by man, and the others aredesignated as "unclean" because theywere not made for man's use.

Was God showing Peter that afterten years of inspired teaching in theNEW Testament Church these uncleananimals were now, suddenly, somehowmade fit for your stomach? After revealing this vision, God toldPeter, "What God hath cleansed, thatcall not thou common" (verse 15). Itdoes not say that "What God cleansed"was these animals. This was done threetimes and then the sheet was receivedup into heaven. Notice that Peter didnot try to eat these unclean animals. Hecouldn 't because this was only a visionin the first place. Also, (verse 17 )"... Peter doubted in himself what thisvision which he had seen should mean."He didn' t immediately assume like somany people that God was changing hislaws respecting unclean meats!

What God CleansedActually, Christ was the "Rock" thatwent before the children of Israel andgave them those laws ( I Cor. 10:4). Weknow that, "Jesus Christ is the same yes-terday, and today, and forever" (Hebrews 13:8). Yes, Christ's command-ments-like his character-are lastingand permanent. So instead of jumping

to conclusions, Peter "doubted" what thisvision should mean."While Peter thought on the vision, the Spiri t said unto him, Behold, threemen seek thee. Arise therefore, and getthee down, and go with them, doubt ingnothing: for I have sent them" (verses

19-20). The voice spoke unto Peterthree times because three gentile menwere at that moment on their way to seehim! Peter went with them to see Cor-nelius and confessed in verse 28", . . God hath shewed me that I should. not call any man common or unclean."Now Peter understood! WHY don 't allthese "popular" preachers? Maybe it'sbecause they are afraid of offendingtheir congregations and losing their sal-aries! "What God cleansed" was notthose unclean animals, but those Gentilemen, formerly unclean through sin.

Page 10Those unclean animal s in Peter' s vision were used to symbolize the gentilerace of men, They had formerly been regarded as unclean. The Jews had beenforbidden to associare with them becauseof their abominable practices. But nowthe wall had been broken down and salvation was extended to the gent iles .

Peter finally realized that t his was themeaning of the vision and said, "Of atruth I perceive that God is no respecterof persons: But in every nation he thatfeareth him, and worketh righteousness,is accepted wit h him" (verses 34-35).Yes, to be accep ted with God, wemust fear Him and work righteousness. What is righteousness? ".. . Al l thycommandments are righteousness"(Psalms 119: 172 ). So let's quit tryingto hide our faces from God's commandments-and begin to live by them!

    Would YOU Eat Skunksand Rats?

But suppose God had been trying totell Peter (and us) that he should eatall the things con ta ined in the sheet thatwas let down in vision. Would you eatthose "creeping things"-lizards, snakes, spiders) Would you ear skunks and hyenas) Ot course you wouldn 't ! Why?Because you have your own law of whatyou think is clean and unclean!Common sense tells us that Goo oidnot intend for us to eat all c reatures , bu twe just aren't willing to let ou r Creatortell us which meats will give us lastinghealth and strength, and which ones areinjurious to our bodies, and will eventually bring on more sickness and dis

ease. Some people want to argue with God!One text on this sub ject they will bringup is found in I Timothy 4:1-5. Read itcarefully. Notice that these "doctrinesof devils" include "forbidding to marry."What church does that to certain of itsmembers? Another false doctrine is"commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be receivedwith thanksgiving ..." By whom? "Ofthem which believe and know the truth."What is truth? Christ said, "Thy word istruth" (John 17: 17). Then the Bibleitscl] reveals th e truth about whichmeats are to be thankfully received!Notice that the false doctr ine is commanding to abstain from meat s whichare thankfully received by those who believe and know the truth-who knowGod's word. And the Holy Bible tells usthat there .tre some meats which are"unclean," and are nor to be receivedwith thanksgiving.Verses tj and 5 tell us, "For everycreature of God is good, and nothing tobe refused, if it be received with thanksgiving; For it is sanctified by the wordof C ~ o d and prayer." What does it mean

The GOOD NEWSwhen il says that these creatures of Godare sanctified by the word of God andprayer?"Sanctify" is a word meaning to makeholy, or set apart for holy use or purpose.Does the word of God sanctify all theunclean hogs, rabbits, snakes, and otherunclean animals? Of course not! Thenthey cannot be received with thanksgiving.God's laws do not change. The diverswashings and carna l ordinances ceasedbecause they were only physical typesof the working of t he Holy Spiri t andthe sacrifice of Christ. But God 's basicspi rit ual laws and physical laws (notordinances) stand fast "forever andever" (Psalms III : 7-8) .Why don 't men wake up and beginto obey their creator? Ou r hospitals andinsane asylums are over flowing, Manydoc tor s are now telling us that eating

pork and other wrong foods is the causeof a great deal of all this suffering. Godknew all this and gave us laws whichwould have kept us from this misery. But we have refused to obey!Let's quit following men, and churchboards, and other self-appointed "authorities." Follow Christ's command inMatthew 4:4 to "live by every word ofGod." For a happier and healthier life, let's get back to the true teach ing ofthe Rihle lWhy Observe Easter?

Continued from page 6but on Sa turday night. It was af te r midnight (verse 7), that they broke breadbecause they were hungry. When they"had broken bread, and EATEN, andtalked a long while, even till break ofday," Paul departed. So this was just an ordinary meal' I fyou would like this verse explained inmuch greater deta il be sure to write forthe booklet, "The Sabbath of the NewTestament," which is absolutely free. The same express ion "break bread"is found in Ac ts 27: 34,35. This could not possibly havebeen the "Lord's Supper" or passover, because Paul says that if we take it tosatisfy our hunger, we take it to ourcondemnation. (I Cor. II: 34 ) In thatday, everyone "broke bread" at ordinarymeals, because they did not have thekind of bread that we slice. Jesus brokebread because it was at the passoversupper, while "at meat," eating a meal.We need to return to the fa ith Jesus

    d ~ i v e r e d to us. Let us humbly andobediently observe this sacred ordinance

April, 1952as we are commanded , at the sc riptura lt ime, after sunset , the l-lrh of Abib according to the sacred calendar. If youhaven't as yet written where you can observe this ordinance as a memorial ofChrist's death with brethren of like faith, write us immediately.

    Is Your SoulImmortal?

Cont inued from page 7God. But when we die we are "sown anatural body; it is raised a spiritualbody. There is a natural body and thereis a spiritual body," Now if we werealready immortal, why would we needto put on this immortality?

God 's Great GiftPaul states in Romans 2:7, "To themwho by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and im

mortality, eternal life." This immortalityis a "gift from God" (Romans 6: 23).Notice that immor ta li ty is not something you are born with! I t is a GIFT!Jesus Christ came to bring immortality to l ight (I I Tim. 1: 10), That is,to reveal to us the possibili ty of receiving it as God's gif t - to make it known. He died and rose from the dead in orderthat deat h miglll nor reign over us. I fwe are his (true Christians), we maydie BUT we will be raised up at his second coming ( I Thess. 4: 16) .To obtain the hope of the resurrectionyou mus t "Repent , and be baptizedeveryone of you in the name of JesusChrist for the remission of sins and yeshull receive the gift of the Holy Ghost ."(Acts 2:38).Then, "i f the spi ri t of h im tha t raisedup Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he

that raised up Chr is t f rom the dead shallalso quicken your mor tal bodies by hisSpirit that dweJleth in you." (Rom.S: 11). So it is only through God's spir itthat you may obtain immortality.Who then bas immortality? JesusChrist has. He alone of all that have everlived in the flesh has immortality for inreference to Chr is t, Pau l wro te in I Timo thy 6: 16, "who ONLY hath immortali

ty." So we know this means that JesusChrist only, of all men, has immortality, Since they (Jesus and God the Father) are of the same family, God's HolySpirit, which is the very life of God,dwells in both. This Spi ri t is the lifegi ving germ that God puts within usupon ou r repen tance and bap tism, andmakes us the begotten children of God.

It is God reproducing after his kind!He is forming his very nature and character within us so that in the resurrection we may "put on immor ta li ty" andbe the sons of God'

If Our Neighbors Can Do It,So Can We!

    By Herman L. Hoeh

O UR UNCONVERTED neighbors believe ami work for an idea l -the American way of life. It isnot God's way of life, of course, bu t atleast they work for a cause. Some may give only five percem oftheir incomes in bonds and taxes; othersmay give as much as seventy-five percent. But no matter what the amount, almost everyone of them wants to support America's bid to Democratize thiswar torn world, making it a pleasamerplace for their children to live.Billions of dollar s go for armaments, and even mil lions serve to f inance theVoice of America broadcasts in Europe, which reaches a pitifully small fractionof Russia's radio audience.

Truman Gets 25%Perhaps you haven't realized it, bu t

about twenty-five percent of the totalnational income is utilized to supportthese and other efforts. If all our neighbors are willing to do that much forman's cause, then how much more oughtwe do for God's cause! If faith in Democracy with all its shortcomings canstir the unconverted to zeal, certainly belief in God 's work ought to make zealflow from us with ever increasing energy'Teaching other peoples the American way of life appears very importantto the government. Yet how much more

important is t he work of God! He isn'tasking us to spend bil lions to destroylife; He i sn 't a sking us to grant millionsof dollars for the Voice of Americabroadcasts to propagandize Communistcountries in Eastern Europe. Instead,God desires that we pay t ithes and giveofferings to sace life and to support Hi sprogram, The World Tomorrow Broadcast, reaching millions who are willingto l isten, with the TRUTH that has beenhidden for centuries.

Small by ComparisonHow insignificant is America's effort,

when compared with the divine missionthat faces everyone of us as co-workerstogether with God! If so little can beaccomplished in spreading the Amarican way of life by one hundred fiftymil lions of people w it h all their resources and zeal, think how much EX-TRA zeal and earnestness in prayer witht ithes and offerings we wi ll baue to put

into our divinely appointed tas]: to carrythe truth of GOD'S way of life to all thenations, as Jesus commanded. It' s a responsibil ity that should makeus shudder, that should make us cry ou tfor more zeal to work harde r so as tohave a greater part in God's labor. Thinkof just a few tbousand of us co-workers,having on our shoulders the task ofteaching America, our Israelite neighbors across the sea, and finally the wholeworld. We are not wealthy bankers or prosperous industria lists, yet we have a morefar reaching job to per fo rm than suchmen could dream of. Most of us haveless to do with, haven't we? than someof our neighbors, YET WE HAVE FARMORE TO ACCOMPLISH,We can't all do the same work. Someof us have to be the direct instrumentsin carry ing out the great commission.

Others of us, you co -worker s scatteredover this whole nation anc1 in Canada, have )'our part! The government at Washingtondoesn't have every citizen instructingforeign nations about the American wayof life, Instead , there are chosen and

trained representatives of governmentsent abroad to direc t the foreign affairsof the nation. The vast majority remainbehind and support the government loyally by taxes, in bond drives, or by otherpatriotic means.

Your Part as Importantas Mr . Armstrong'sIn the same way God directs His

work by choosing men whom He trains,But God intends that the others of us,who don't have a direct part in th e ministry, should have JUSt as necessary apart. The government's effort wouldquickly fail if it were nor for the peoplebacking up that effort with t he ir zealand money, wouldn't it? So would God'swork fail if you Christians cease to doyour part in supplying faithfully tithesand offerings, to carry this work forward.God knew that many of you wouldbe wondering just what your part in thi sministry would be, since He calls us coworkers togethe r with Him, (2 Cor.6: 1) That is the reason that Paul explains in t he seven th chapter of He

brews t ha t our par t is to give tithes andofferings for the work of the ministry

in teaching Hi s truth to all people.Paul explains that long before Moses,in fact, from the beginning, the princi

ple of tithing was in force. Abrahamgave t it he s to Melchi zedek about fivehundred years be fo re Moses was born.God revealed this to Abraham because itwas good for him to give.In actuality, God is the greatest Giverof all. Everything belongs to Him , bu tHe gives us nine-tenths of everythingwe produce, In turn God only reservesone-tenth for Himself which He directsto be used for His work by those whomHe has chosen to serve Him directly.

Are You Breakin g Th is Law?The apostle Paul then explains thatl at er the Lcvires, as God's ministers to

ancient Is rael, had been givt'n by Godthe use of t ithes and offerings. But nowthe ministry is changed: "For the priesthood being changed, there is made ofnecessity n ~ ' l l A Nnr also of th e law."(Heb.7:12)Today the law is changed, not abolished, bu t changed, so that t ithes and offerings which belong to God are given

to the minis try which represents God atthis time. This is our part as co-workerswith God.Our neighbors realize that they allhave their part in a id ing the cause theybelieve in. They prove th ei r loyalty tothe American way of life by puttingtheir earnings int o bonds and by pay ingtaxes. It is only those whose hearts arenot right who evade taxes, And the sameapp li es to us wo. "For where your treasure is, THERE will you r hear t be also."(Matthew 6: 21 )Jesus knew that the very ones whorob God by refraining from payingtithes, and the ones who are not voluntarily giving offerings according to theirprosperity, that those people would nothave their hearts right with God. God'sheart is in His work. He wants us tohave our hearts in His work, too, becauseHi s work is OUR WORK,A Crime That Robs God, Thousands

of Others, an d Cheats YOUI f it is a crime to evade just debts to

human agencies, how much more criminal, more s inful is it to evade our justdebt to God? When any of us fail inhis duty to pay his t it hes and give offerings to carry out the most important

(Malachi 3:8-12 )Perhaps you have never realized beforehow serious this is. None of us wouldwilfully rob the man we professed towork for, would we? Yet THAT is justwhat we are doing to our Heavenly Father and Employer when we fail to payour tithes and give offerings. We are taking away the spiritual foodthat two thousand people need by wi thholding even a single dollar of God'st ithe from God's most efficient work. I tis not a very kind person who would robthe hands of two thousand spiritual "infants" just to feed his stomach, is it?Such a person is not really feedinghimself materially, even though he maythink so. God's tithing law was revealedso that we could learn that by givingwe receive more in return than if wewould have retained the whole amountand not given. It costs you nothing totithe, for God prospers the tither.Jesus came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly. (John10:10)Do you want to be like the youngman I know who was going economically behind week by week becausehe was not obeying God? You will haveto do what In- did Sir" . ill", RiLle saysthat God was open to a test, that wecould prove whether the Creator speaksthe truth, this young man decided to testGod's law. Before the week was our, this youngfellow was having so much less expensethat he was now SAV1NG MORE THANBEFORE HE STARTED TO OBEY GOD. The GOOD NEWS

What Fowls Are Not Fi t Fo r Food? There are two chapters in the Biblewhere unclean fowl are .enumerated;Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. Thefowl mentioned may be placed into threegeneral categories: birds of prey andscavengers, night birds, and waterfowl. In Deut. 14: 11,20 it is stated that "ofall clean birds you may eat." This doesnot mean tha t because a specific b ird is

not mentioned in the two lists that it isnecessarily clean, because many uncleanfowl are not to be eaten "after the irkind." That is, if a bird not specificallyrecorded falls into a classification of oneof the "kinds" mentioned as unclean, then it is unclean, too. Thus the crow isunclean because it is of the raven kind.Lev. 11: 15. Since one of the majorclassifications of unclean birds is waterfowl, the goose and the duck are uncleanjust as the swan. But our common barnyard chicken iscertainly clean, as it falls into none ofthese classifications. The Bible provesthat the quail, the dove and the pigeonare clean. God fed the children of Israelwith quail and he commanded doves asofferings. The pheasant is also fit forhuman consumption. Why Did Paul Want to Depart and be

with Chris t?Many are wondering why Paul toldthe Philippians "For I am in a straitbetwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Chris t; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the fleshis more needful for you." Phil. 1:23,24.As Paul would be going to the graveat death, why did he say he would be

with Christ? This text is a good example of reading a meaning into scrip ture that is notthere. Paul did not say WHERE he wouldgo or WHEN he would be with Christ.

There is nor one word mentioningheaven here, nor is the re one word saying that he would be with Christ immediately. Then why the hurry for departure? To understand what is meant here wemust turn to ano ther scripture where

Paul was ready to depart. In 2 Timothy4:6-8 Paul wrote: "For I am now readyto be offered, and the time of my depar-

ture IS at hand. 1 have fought a goodfight, I have finished my course, I havekep t the faith: Hence fo rth there is laidup for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shallgive me at that day: and not to me only, bur unto all them also that love his ap-pearing."In these verses Paul explains whatmeant by being with Christ. He doesnot receive his reward immediately atdeath. No, indeed. But there is laid upa crown of righteousness which the Lordshall give him AT THAT DAY. What day?At Christ's appearing-his second coming! In Isaiah 40: lOwe notice this sameday mentioned: "Behold, the Lord Godwill come . . . behold, his reuurd is withhim." (Rev. 22: 12.)Paul wrote to the Thessalonians: "Forthe Lord himself shall descend fromheaven with a shout, with the voice ofthe archangel, and with the trump ofGod: and the dead in Chris t shall risefirst: Then we which are alive and rewain shall be caught up togethe r withthem in the clouds, to mee t t he Lord inthe air: and so shall we ever be with theLord." I Thes. 4: 16,17.Here is when the dead " that sleep inthe dus t of the earth shall awake" (Daniel 12: 2) and meet the Lord. The deadhave not been with the Lord these thousands of years; but they are awaiting thetime when they will in the future awakenFROM THE DUST OF THE EARTH to meetthe Lord in the air! This is the time when, according toI Cor. 15: 52, the dead shall be raisedincorrupt ib le by the power of the Spi ri tof God from heaven. In 2 Cor. 5: 1-10the apostle Paul speaks of the sameevent-the Spiri t of God from heavenclothing those who have died, with immortality. This event takes place at theresurrection. Yet Paul said that he was"willing rather to be absent from thebody, and to be present with rhe Lord."Why?

The answer is in the second verse of2 Cor. 5. He says that "we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon withour house from heaven"-the spiritualbody received at the resurrection throughthe power of the Spirit of God fromheaven. Paul while still alive was wait-Please continue on page 14

The Beauty of OU fLower Gardens

By Billie Sue SandersI have seen nothing which impressesme more than the lovely lower gardensof the Ambassador College campus. As

I walk down the steps, I suddenly become aware of a quietness which soothesmy mind. The striking architecture ofthe tempietto, fountains, retaining wall, pool and baptist ry is breath- taking andleaves one in a sense of awe. The poolat the north end of the gardens with itswaterlilies, hyacinths and umbrellapalms, tends to give every th ing a touchot freshness. The trees seem to symbolize my conception of Ambassador College. The tall , stately trees represent thesincerity and reverence of the studen tswhile the smaller trees give a feelmg ofintimacy and friendliness which is typical on the campus.
