AchievementsNormally on a Friday morning we would have our Achievement Assembly! As things are a little bit different at the moment, we would like you to reflect on your achievements this week as well as the achievements of someone in your pod or in your household. We will spend some time sharing these before we watch Good Morning Charlton for the virtual assembly!

MathsLO: To solve two step equations

Outcome: by the end of this lesson you will have usedall four number operations to solve two stepequations.

For those of you who are learning from home, the maths lessons may look quite long! Please remember that in

school we would spend a lot of time discussing questions together and you wouldn’t be expected to answer every

single question in your book. If there is someone at home who you can talk to about this maths, that would be great! If not, then please work through the slides and

have a go at the tasks.

Learning from home? Don’t worry!

LO: To solve one step equations Warm up!

Find the value of x in each of the equations below:

Remind yourself what a balanced equation is.

LO: To solve two step equations Learn it!

Which of these equations is the odd one out?

If you are in school:

1 – think about an answer by yourself

2 – explain your idea to a friend and convince them you’re right

3 – explain your idea to me and convince me you’re right!

Which of these equations is the odd one out?

I think that the last statement is the odd one out: not only is it written with the answer before the = sign, but it is the only two step equation. We need to add and multiply to find the answer. For the other two we only have to complete one step.

Billy has used equipment and jottings to find the value of x. What do you think of his method?

How could we use Billy’s method to calculate the value of y in this equation:

=

LO: To solve two step equations Do it!

Use Billy’s method to solve the following:You might find it helpful to always use to represent the letter and to represent 1.

Can you also use the inverse to calculate an answer without using the drawings?

LO: To solve two step equations Twist it!

Decide whether the following statements are true or false. If there is a statement which is false you need to be able to explain the error:

What is the correct value of c?

Match each equation to the correct value of a

This week we are going to press pause on Macbeth because you have been set a task by your secondary schools!

This is a fun piece of writing based on hope and will help your new English teachers plan fun and exciting lessons for you in year 7.

Try to remember everything you have learned during your time at Charlton and try to produce a piece of work that shows off all your skills as a writer.

Yesterday some of you made a start on your piece of writing which will be sent to your secondary school.

Today you will need to finish the piece of writing. Make sure it highlights all your amazing skills as a writer.

Like all of your writing, when you have finished you will need to read through and edit it before writing up neatly on your piece of paper.

Page 22: Good morning Year 6! · You can either read your own book from home, ... yourself 2 –explain your idea to a friend ... re their any improvements you can make, so it’s even better?

Using your plan, your task is to write a short description of a situation where something changes. At the start, things seem hopeless, but at the end there is more hope. No more than 1 side of A4.

If you find it hard to think of ideas, use this picture.

If you have your own ideas, you can use those instead.

These is an example on the following slide if you need some more inspiration.

Remember to try and make this your very best writing.

Writing TaskStructure:

No hope at the start:

Alone in her bedroom on the 8th floor, a little girl no older than eleven sat at her window. Gazing out at the lifeless trees below. Statues in a row, she could see tree after tree, motionless… grey…alone, like her.. How she wished she could be back in her old house with her old friends…

Change begins:

…. As she pondered her new life, something caught her eye on the street below, a boy about her age was emerging from the gloom. He stopped at raised his head, his floppy blond hair falling away from his face. He smiled up at her, the brightest smile she had ever seen. As he did so something remarkable happened; hundreds of tiny, brightly coloured birds appeared in the trees, the branches swayed and danced, as if waking from a long sleep…

Hope at last:

…walking through the imposing iron school gates, she spotted the boy, be beamed at her and made is way over…. With her new friends maybe this new life would be OK after all.

No hope at the startThe girl is sad and bored, fed up of being in lockdown.

Change begins...She looks out of the window and starts to watch the birds in the tree and listens to their songs.

Ends with hopeTheir beautiful singing cheers her up and she looks forward to going out again after lockdown.

PSHEThis is your final term as a student at Charlton Primary School before you move to your secondary school as a Year 7 pupil. You are reaching a stage in your life where you will begin to notice some changes to your body and your feelings. We will be discussing some of these changes in school this term and your teachers in Year 7 will also discuss them with you. You might find it helpful to talk to an adult at home about this too.
