Golf Teaches Important Life Lessons

• Honesty– “Golf is based on honesty. Where else would somebody

admit to a seven on an easy par 3?” -Jimmy Demaret• Patience, Persistence, and Resilience

– “If there is one thing I have learned during my years as a professional, it is that the only constant thing about golf is its inconsistency.” –Jack Nicklaus

• Humility– “Playing the game I have learned the meaning of humility. It

has given me an understanding of futility of the human effort” –Abba Eban

Alignment and Foot Position

• At address your body (feet, knees, hips, forearms, shoulders and eyes) should be positioned parallel to the target line.

• The target-side foot should be flared toward the target from 20 to 40.

• The back foot should be square (90 degrees to the target line) to slightly open.

Ball Position• The position of the ball depends solely

on which club you have selected.

Page 13: Golf swing powerpoint

Balance

• A golfer’s weight should always be balanced on the balls of the toes.

• It is also important to understand which foot most of the balance should be on. – Short Irons: 60% of weight on target side foot– Middle Irons: 50/50– Long Clubs: 60% of weight on back foot

Page 14: Golf swing powerpoint

Posture

• Knees– Should be slightly flexed and over the balls of the feet for balance – Your back knee should also be bent inward slightly

• Body– Should be bent at the hips (not waist), which will make your

bottom stick out slightly and your spine should make a 90° angle with the shaft of the club

• Back– Your vertebrae should be in line, which will make your back

straight and prevent a slouching position.– Your back should also tilt slightly away from the target
