MagnesiumPlants require Mg to capture the suns energy and is thus essential for photosynthesis. Magnesium acts as a phosphorous carrier wit-hin the plant, thus the proper ratio can help promote root develop-ment which in turn helps with nutrient uptake and water efficiency.

SulphurSulphur is present in every living cell and is required for synthesis of amino acids and protiens. Sulphur can play an important role in helping regulate soil pH.

CalciumCalcium plays a key role in developing cell walls in the plant the-reby improving strength and plant structure. Calcium stimulates root and leaf development and can also help promote the uptake of other essential nutrients.

BoronBoron is reequired in small amounts and is a component of the cell wall. Boron deficiencies are more pronounced during periods of drought.

ManganeseManganese aids in chlorophyll synthesis. Deficiencies are first ap-parent on youngest leaves due to low mobility in the plant.

IronIron is a catalyst in chlorophyll formation. Deficiencies can be caused by an imbalance of other metals (Cu, Mo, Mn) and can ap-pear as a pale green leaf colour.

CopperCopper is necessary for chlorophyll formation. Extremely immo-bile, deficiencies can present themselves as a lack of turgor pres-sure.

ZincZinc promotes metabolic reactions that are critical in the early growth stages. As soil pH increases ZN availability decreases.

MolybdenumMolybdenum is required in the smallest amount in plants.Molybdenum can help with nitrogen uptake.

Nitrogen is responsible for photosynthesis and chlorophyll syntheses. Lack of chlorophyll and nitrogen will result in the plant not using sunlight as an energy source and in turn cannot perform essential functions such as nutrient uptake.

Phosphorous is extremely important in capturing and converting the suns energy into useful compounds for the plant. Phosphorus helps promote root development and early seeding growth.

Potassium plays an important role in all aspects of turfgrass nutrition. Potassium is responsible for maintaining turgor pressure in the plant as well as helps provide stress tolerance. The correct balance of Nitrogen and Potassium can help improve the plants reproductive capabilities, this is usually a 1:1 ratio.

Plant Nutrition

Mulder’s Chart shows some of the interactions between plant nutrients. High levels of a par-ticular nutrient in the soil can interfere with the availability and uptake by the plant of other nutrients. Those nutrients which interfere with one another are said to be antagonistic.Stimulation occurs when the high level of a particular nutrient increases the demand by the plant for another nutrient. Increased nitrogen levels create a demand for more magnesium. If more potassium is used – more manganese is required and so on.It is important to make note of how the nutrients interact with each other when applying fertilizer to your turf.

Soil testing is the most accurate method used in determining the status of your soil, a true snapshot of what is in your growing medium. Soil testing allows us to identify imbalances in the soil. Problems begin to occur when imbalances are present in the soil. The plant is more susceptible to damage from drought, disease, insects and other stresses.

With turf playing surfaces being highly maintained in a very demanding environment, en-suring that soil tests are conducted as accurately as possible is most important. We use a dedicated soil testing lab and have a team of agrologists in house in order to best help you navigate through the often complex soil tests.

SOIL AMENDMENTS

NPK TIP

A soil amendment is anything added to the soil with the goal of changing its physical properties. When changing these properties we are trying to improve the environment in which the roots grow. The aim is to improve water retention, infiltration, aeration, drainage and of course nutrient availability for the plants.

Over time, soil can accumulate substances that are not favourable to turf growth. Products such as Solu-Cal S can be used to flush soluble salts that have accumulated in the soil, thus improving the physical and chemical structure of the soil.

• Is the first slow release technology to offer plant available phosphorus, with nitrogen and magnesium, in one prill.

• Crystal Green® releases in response to organic acids produced by the plant during root growth.

• Crystal Green® offers more con-sistent, plant available nutrients com-pared to conventional phosphorus fertilizers.

• Methylene urea slow-release nitrogen is a trusted technology that provides grad-ual and consistent release.

• Exceptional 12-16 week longevity

• Reduces nitrogen loss due to volatil-ity, leaching and denitrification.

• Excellent nitrogen source with low burn potential, steady growth & ex-ceptional colour.

• Formulated with a urease inhibitor that helps reduce nitrogen loss to the atmosphere which will provide more time for irrigation and rainfall to transport nitrogen to the rootzone.

• Contains a nitrogen stabilizer that re-duces nitrogen loss from leaching and denitrification, allowing nitrogen to be more available to the plant when needed.

• Duration® makes it easy to grow healthy turf while reducing your maintenance costs at the same time.

• Duration® uses 43-44% urea nitrogen and releases it gradually throughout the plants growing cycle, which re-sults in plant feeding for the whole season with just one application.

• Polymer coated technology for pre-dictable release patterns, low leach-ing potential & minimal applications.

• ES-COTE™ Slow-Release Fertilizer uses breakthrough technology to provide a unique, durable coating that allows gradual and consistent nutrient release delivering up to 8 weeks of continuous feeding.

• Humacare™ natural chelating agents improves nutrient uptake by the plants.

• Stimulates respiration rates of seed-ing which leads to quicker germina-tion and uniformity, even under ad-verse conditions like drought.

• Titanium homogeneous fertilizers are the top-of-the-line products formu-lated to optimize nutrient application to your turf.

• Titanium technology is designed to make granular fertilization as uniform as possible; each granule contains all of the nutrients essential to healthy growth.

• The granules are white for greater visibility while spreading and also break down easily with light irriga-tion.

• Organic, granulated slow release fer-tilizer consisting of turkey litter.

• Sustane provides slow, efficient re-lease of nitrogen to plant life without volatilization, leaching as nitrates or immobilization in the soil.

• Combined with a rich humus supple-ment that stimulates microbial activ-ity in the soil.

• Provide both rapid establishment & long lasting soil-plant nutrition.

NPK TIP

A fertilizer is most effective when prop-erly applied. Take the time to calibrate your spreader for every application to ensure that the effort put into research-ing and selecting the proper fertilizer for your turf translates into a job well done. Three things to consider when calibrat-ing your spreader are Rate, Speed and Width. Contact your EnviroSol rep for the most up to date calibration settings.

NPK TIP

Use controlled and slow release fertilizer to optimize the efficiency of your fertilizer for green and healthy turf, while minimizing losses into the environment through leaching and volatilization. Unlike some nitrogen fertilizers, controlled and slow release fertilizers ensure a steady release of nitrogen in the soil over a longer period. Controlled and slow release fertilizers provide nitrogen to the plant when it is needed to ensure healthy plant growth.

NPK TIP

2 – 3 weeks prior to any aerification events it is best to take a look and make sure that your turf is healthy enough to recover from the stresses associated with this aggressive cultural practice. For a speedy recovery apply ½ lb of N / 1000 ft2 10 to 14 days prior to aerifi-cation, another application of N can also be applied immediately after the aerification process is complete. Always roll prior to first mowing in order to eliminate any bumpiness and avoid scalping.
