I would like to open up by thanking all of the companies that have participated in our Express Sponsorship program. The ASHRAE Houston Chapter has always received outstanding support from the local industry. These financial contributions will help us reach our Research Promotion goal and aid in aid in supporting chapter operations for the year. Our first annual sporting Clay Tournament on September 29 is approaching quickly and team registration is open on the website. ASHRAE Houston never disappoints when it comes to planning a great social event, and this will be no exception. The shooting tournament format will offer more opportunities for interaction between teams than are typically available at a golf tournament. Young Engineers in ASHRAE

The Young Engineers of ASHRAE has become a very successful group over the past few years for the Houston Chapter. The YEA group was formed to enhance member benefits for young professional ASHRAE members by giving them the opportunity to expand their knowledge about the industry, as well as socialize and network with other young professionals. Once a month, the members of YEA meet for lunch or happy hour. During these meetings members are able to talk with their fellow young professionals, meet new young professionals in the industry, as well as discuss the current happenings in the industry. These meetings are a great way for members to learn as well as teach others what they have learned about the industry. YEA also offers a few larger events each year. Lunch-and-learn events happen a few times a year in which different companies lecture and give tours of their facility and products, providing a better hands-on understanding. YEA is always welcoming new young professionals in the HVAC industry to participate. Announcement Congratulations to Bruce Flaniken, P..E who is the ASHRAE Houston Chapter’s most recent Fellow Recipient. At this past Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA Bruce was nominated and voted to receive the Fellow Award. To become a Fellow a Member must have a Minimum of 10 years at Member Grade + Distinguished Contributions to HVAC&R Industry + Application Voted on by Society Honors & Awards Committee.

Congratulations Bruce!

Also, The Houston Chapter is planning a very prestigious Society Award for Damon Gowan (Past Society President 1990-1991 and Past Houston Chapter President 1977-1978).

ASHRAE Honors and Awards

Announcing Andrew Muhl as an ASHRAE Pioneer of Refrigeration in 2015. He held four patents for refrigeration equipment to make ice see attached Scientific American Article about ether vapor cycle refrigeration machine. He started up ice plants and ran them in San Antonio, Austin, Waco and other locations starting in 1865 through 1892. Refer to family photo attached. Bruce Flaniken Chapter Historian Emeritus wrote article with the help of Jaime Muhl family member and won 2014 ASHRAE Lou Flagg Best History Paper.
