DISTRICT SECRETARY - ANNUAL REPORT

Brother Chairman. Officers of the District Lodge, Delegates and Members, another

year as your District Secretary is about over and lt has been a pleasure to serve

you.

I would like to submit my observations to the District Coventl.on of the experiences

that I have observed during ny tenure on the District Lodge, hopefully, they will

be helpful 1.n the riear future.

1. More discussions and ideas should be emphasized during District Lodge meetings.

2. Chapters and District Lodge should work closer together and inaugurate more

active prograims.

3. Educational Activities are in need of being constructed further.

4. My belief and expectation is that all Chapters to definately put into practice

one or two programs suggested by Supreme Lodge or the District Lodge. All

Presi.dents, together with his officers, should study and use the "Headquarters

News Bulletin", dated May 1983, terrific achl.evements can be accomplished.

Plan for the future.

Chapters to hold rare Officer's meetings. M3re Presidents and Officers should

read and PRACTICE our simple ..Manual of Meeting Procedure". Remember...

"practice makes perfect".

6. Greek Ideals and Greek Heritage do implement our comitment to our ORDER of

AHEPA. Look for the Good, and lpra.ise 1.t. Let us begi.n to have rare fraternal

LOVE and FELLOWSHIP. our ethnic people deserve it.

Since our Fall Conference and the dynamic speech and actions of Bishop Anthony

of the Greek Orthodox Church, we have gained a sizable number of new members.

District No. 21's cooperation for the future of St. Nicholas Ranch participation

is promising. And through ny own Chpater I have personally presented a large

d°natl.On. Our Super Scholarship Fund also received from me I generous donation.

2C,

Page twoDistrict Secretary Annual Report

Once again, at tlil.s Cotivention let us re-dedicate ourselves to renew AHEPA

ties .

I attended several District Lodge meetings. I visited 26 Chapters, including

12 District Visitatl.ons, 10 regular visl.ts and 4 social events.

Several secretarial problems which I feel are I.mportant and should be looked

i n to :

I. Is 1.t necessary to continue the mailing of a complete list of Convention

Delegates to Chapter secreataries as mandated by AHEPA Constitution,

Article XXXI, Section 3?

2. We should maintain the nine (9) items stated by this Secretary last year.

See Convention Secretary for copies.

Good fellowship and your cooperation is needed throughout the full year. We must

continue a look for new strength and vitality if we are to progress in this

great AHEPA.

I wish to thank all of you and Chapter Officers for extending ne their courtesies

and respect. Serving the Distrl.ct is my pride and pleasure, and I will always

remain your servant 1.n AHEPA for ever. Again, I say that with your help we can

progress to higher goals and rewardi.ng programs.

Thank you ny fellow officers on the Di.stri.ct Lodge for all your cooperation these

passed four (4) years.

With Distrl.ct Lodge and Convention members cooperating. participating and working

closely together, the 21st Distri.ct could be the Best District in the AHEPA domain.

St.Nicholas Ranch Proiect

The Or.der of Ahepa is recognized world-wide a6 the foremostrepresentation of Hellenism outside Greece. Ahepa, togetherwith the Greek Orthodox Church, are the institutions thatassume the gI`eatest responsibility for Hellenism in theUnited States of America. Because of this our Gc)lden GateDistrict #21 accebted an invitatic)n from His Grace BishopAnthony. The purpose of this encounter was to prc)mote aproject in order to assist and help in the construction ofthe St. Nicholas Ranch. The final decision and acceptangefor this pl`oject will be made during this Convention.

Conferences and Regional Meetinft

I participated in the Regional District Governors Meetingin Log Angeles, held t)y Our. Supreme President Brother PeterKouchalakos and Ahepa's Executive Secretary Brc)ther TimManiatis. During the year, we had two conferences: the

Gr`ow'th and EXDansion

There is a general misunderstanding about the number of duespaying Ahepa.ns who comprise the member.ship of Ahepa. Thebest estimate of the membership has to be counted from thoseBrother Ahepans who work and show interest fol` our organi-zation. since we call ourselves a Service Organization.If--in our. communities we do good work--people will ask tojoin our fraternity. In spite of the fact that the Ahepa Traveler has won awards and letters of uerlton a national level each year that Ton has been editor. he is the constant targetof crltlci§m and complaints. Then asked to put conplaint§ in ttiting, not onelegitinate coxplalnt was received.

However, ve dldn't stop there -we continued to try to improve t:he Traveler andlover its Cost. This coitmit.t-oo tin,,i I+I,A +^ ______I -I_This cotndttee vend like to present lt§ recozmendations to thisbody:

If the thepa is kept in its presetit fom, the cost for 1983-84 would increaseby 4Z, which would bring the cost of each of its 4 amual ls§ues to $910.00.By adopting a new fomat we can reduce the initial cost by approxirately 19%.bringing the cost of each issue doun to $745.00. This reduction in cost, coupled with the projected 4% increase trould be approximately a 25% overallreauacion in printing eo9t with no increase in miling or handling, and anoverall increase of approxirately 25% core surface area to print additionalI)istrict 21 informatlon.

1. This comittee recomends the adoption of this new for"t.2. This condttee further reccmends that Ton Tjovenos continue to be the
