The Goering Decree dates from March 3, 1933 (3/3/33) was instigated to suppress theFreikorperkultur (FKK). Hermann Wilhelm Goering was the second most powerful man in the Naziparty and certainly voiced the opinion of Der Fuhrer.

    It reads:

"One of the greatest dangers for German culture and morality is the so-called nudity movement.Greatly as it is to be welcomed in the interest of the public health, that ever wider circles, especially ofthe metropolitan population, are striving to make the healing power of sun and air and waterserviceable to their body, as greatly must the so-called nudity movement be disapproved of as acultural error. Among women the nudity kills natural modesty; it takes from men their respect forwomen, and thereby destroys the prerequisite for any genuine culture. It is therefore expected of allpolice authorities that, in support of the spiritual powers developed through the national movement, they take all police measures to destroy the so-called nude culture."

Towards the end of World War II, when the war brought bombing, tragedies, and an austerestandard of living to the German people; the Goering decree was relaxed and "skinny dipping" andother light public nudity was permitted again.

Of interest, during the Cold War, the Soviet-Communist dominated East Germany had a stronger

FKK movement than West Germany. The FKK was first revived in the Baltic Resorts and started withAfrican styled dance festivals. According to a German friend, the FKK made a selling point to theGerman communist party that they represent something that Hitler and the Nazi's were opposed to.

Today, the FKK is a well established movement in Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, France,Spain, and many other parts of Europe.
