The Godhead—Part 2
The Distinct Person of the Father
• The Father is referred to as a person, separate from the Son and the Holy Spirit.– Gen. 1:26: “Let Us make man…”– Isa. 48:16: “The Lord Jehovah hath sent me,
and his Spirit” (ASV).– John 1:14; 16:28: Jesus came from the Father
and went back to the Father.

The Father in the Godhead
• Though united in purpose, each person fulfills a different role in the Godhead.– Equal in being and power: Eternal.– United in purpose.– Different roles in fulfilling that purpose.
• The Father is the will; the conductor.
The Role of the Father
• The Father is never sent.
• As the Conductor, He does the sending—John 6:38; 14:26. – Jesus was sent as the acting agent, to
accomplish the Father’s will.– The Holy Spirit was sent to supply order,
power, and revelation.

Stand in Awe of the Wisdom and Power of the Father
• Whose eternal purpose was accomplished in Christ Jesus (Eph. 3:11).
• Whose manifold wisdom is made known by the church (Eph. 3:10).
• Who sent Jesus and raised Him from the dead (Col. 2:12).
• Who is above all, through all, and in all (Eph. 4:6).
Questions to be Answered
• How could God be in Heaven and on earth at the same time? (Isa. 48:16; John 1:14)
• If Jesus is in subjection to the Father, How is He equal to the Father? (John 1:3; Phil. 2:6; 1 Pet. 5:5)
