Point out that what kids are about to hear is true and is recorded in the Bible. Open your Bible to

the passage and leave it open and visible throughout The Big God Story. Invite kids to open their

Bibles and follow along as you storytell. Children respond to what the Holy Spirit is teaching them

as they reflect on the day’s portion of The Big God Story.

STORYTELLING - 12 minutes (Storyteller) ( You will need to choose some volunteers to help hold pictures….use this as an incentive for kids to sit still and listen…..and choose as you tell the story.) In the beginning, there were no tall trees. No flowers. No warm sunshine. There were no animals and no people! Everything was dark. But God was here. (1-child have hold God picture) And this is what God did. First, God said, “Let there be light.” And just like that—there was light! ( 2 child have hold dark/light picture) God called the light daytime. God made the daytime for working and playing. God made our world dark part of the time. God called the quiet dark nighttime. God made nighttime for sleeping. (Have kids sleep with you, hands on head, head bend over, eyes closed) Next, God made the sky. He put this beautiful sky up, up, up high, bright and blue. (Point up, and have kids point with you) God made lots of fluffy, puffy white clouds to float in the beautiful blue sky. (3 child have hold cloud/water picture) Next, God took all the water and put some here and some there until the world had oceans, lakes and rivers full of water.

Pictures for Children to hold while you tell the story.

1- God, 2-Dark/light, 3 – Clouds/water,

4 - Plants/Mountains, 5 - Sun, Moon and stars,

6 - Birds/fish, 7 - Animals/people, 8 Adam, 9Eve, 10 God/resting

The Prayer of Release allows children and

leaders to pause, be still, and ask God to

quiet their hearts and minds. Before you

pray, you might ask the kids to hold out

their hands, palms up, in a spirit of releas-

ing their worries and distractions in order

to better receive what the Holy Spirit might

have for them today. Then encourage the

kids to quiet their voices, take a seat, and

pray with you.

And between the water was the dry land. God made tall, tall mountains, little round hills and low flat places, too. (Have kids make tall mountains with hands, finger tips together to make triangles) God said, “Let grass and trees and flowers grow.” And they did! Soft green grass, tall, tall trees, tiny plants, fruit trees and berry bushes, vegetables and flowers all began to grow. (Child 4 hold to mountain, plants, and land picture) But that’s not all God made! God made special lights—the bright warm sun to shine in the daytime and the moon and the stars to shine at night. (Child 5 hold sun/moon pictures) God made everything in our wonderful world. God is SO great! But God’s world was VERY quiet. The splashing lakes, rivers and oceans were empty! So God said, “Let the water be full of fish and all sorts of living creatures!” And there were FISH! Big fish and whales and dolphins jumped and swam in the oceans. Bright fish swam near the rocks. In the deepest ocean, fish swam that had little lights! There were crabs and starfish and seahorses. There were clams that dug themselves into the sand. (Have Child 6 hold fish/bird picture) Then God looked at the beautiful blue sky. Nothing was there but clouds. So God said, “Let birds fly in the sky.” Soon, blue birds and yellow birds, big birds and little birds flew in the sky. They made nests in the trees. Eagles flew high and chickens scratched the ground. The dry land was full of grass and flowers and trees. But nothing moved there. So God said, “Let there be all kinds of animals.” (Have child 7 hold animal image.) And just as God said, there were animals everywhere! Horses and zebras ran and kicked. Monkeys swung in the trees. Cows, goats and sheep ate the grass. Big gray elephants stomped. Tiny gray mice hid. Big lions roared and tall kangaroos hopped. Dogs and cats ran and played and then slept in the sunshine. God looked at all the fish and birds and animals He had made. God said, “It is good.” God made everything in our world! And He made it just right! But there was no one in the world for God to talk with. And there was no one in the world to take care of what God had made. Then God made someone to talk to. He made a person. This person was a man. God named the man Adam. (Have child 8 hold picture of Adam) God told Adam to give names to all the living things. So Adam gave just the right name to each one. Adam was happy with the animals and the trees and the flowers. But there was no other per-son to talk to Adam. God knew that Adam needed someone to love. Adam also needed help to take care of the beautiful world God had made. So God made a woman. Adam called her Eve. (Have child 9 hold picture of Eve)

God said to Adam and Eve, “Take care of the animals and birds and fish that I made. Use the plants for your food.” Then on day 7- God looked at all He had made and was so happy!!! Then He rested. God gave us the 7th day to rest. (Have child 10 hold Picture of God) Adam and Eve must have been glad and thankful for all the good things God had given them. They ate the tasty fruit that grew on the trees. Sometimes in the evening, God came to the garden and talked with Adam and Eve. God loved them very much. And Adam and Eve loved God. DAYS OF CREATION BOOK SUPPLIES • Booklet (one per child) • Stickers • Crayons Today we learned that God is Creative. He created the whole world and everything in it! Is-n’t that amazing? We are going to color and place stickers in our mini book about Creation. Then we can learn what God Created on what day! Pass out books and help kids get their name on them. Read the first page together. Show kids the stickers, ask them which sticker they think goes on this page…..(The dark/light sticker) Continue to read and help kids put correct stickers on their page. God is so creative that he even made each of us to be special and unique. We each have special talents and things about us that God gave us, and God likes when we use the special things about us to create new things, too. Let’s thank God for making us creative

Dig In to the Bible

• Read: Genesis 1

• In This Passage: God makes the world. God is creative, making all different kinds of plants and animals, birds and fish, and land and sea. Finally, he creates the pinnacle of his creation: humans! He makes people in his own image, so we can be creative, too!

• Bible Point: God is creative…

• Application: …so we’re creative.

• Summary Verse: “Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding” (Isaiah 40:28).

Dig Deeper

• You’ll Be Teaching: God is creative. Most younger kids think they’re creative. But as kids start to age, some get the message that creativity just isn’t their thing. Help kids see that they’re created in the image of the Creator. God is creative, and that creativity is infused into each of us in different ways.

• Think About: What’s the last creative thing you did? What does that show you about God’s creativity?

Dig In to Prayer

• Pray that God would reveal his creativity to each child as kids consider how he made each of them specifically.

Quick Tip

Creativity is not just revealed in art and music. It can show up in creative problem-solving, a new idea for how to play a game, or a wild imagination. Look for creativity in your kids this week. Try to affirm each child for how he or she is reflecting God’s creativity.
