Forecaster of OXFORD BAPTIST CHURCH Oxford, North Carolina July 18, 2014 oxfordbaptistnc.org With Appreciation With Thanksgiving behind us and Advent upon us, I cannot help but reflect upon you, the people of Oxford Baptist Church. Sure, I could write a few paragraphs about how you would benefit from picking up an Advent Devotional book from the office. Some might suggest I attempt to cultivate a spirit of generosity around our End-of-Year giving goal and our Offering for Global Mission emphasis, but I trust others will elaborate on those things. Instead, I want to convey a spirit of deep appreciation for you, the people of Oxford Baptist Church. We are not a perfect church. We can be more hospitable. We should engage more in missions endeav- ors. We might need to reach out more, reach in more and reach up more. But, without letting us off the hook too easily, who couldnt? Every church must grow and expand its work for the sake of the Kingdom of God. That is the nature of the Gospel which, as we remember from Acts 1.8, pushes us beyond Jerusalem, into Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. So, despite our imperfections, I still appreciate you. I appreciate how you have welcomed us into this community and I appreciate your desire to serve God and grow in your faith. I appreciate your gestures of love to my family and I hope you will not limit such gestures to us. I appreci- ate a devotion to important meetings, bible studies, missions circles and more rehearsals than I can keep up with. I appreciate your engagement with me as a preacher and as your pastor. And, I appreci- ate what God is leading our church to become. So, thank you. Thank you for being you. And thank you for a willingness to be a better, more spiritually formed you in the days ahead. This life is a journey and along the way we are called to Love God, Love Others and Serve All. As we do this together, I appre- ciate the opportunity to grow with you, especially during this season. Peace, Chris Book Clubs will resume in January. Check the January Forecaster for de- tails if you would like to read with us.
