MAKE IT FUNPrepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your preschoolers arrive. Let one or two teachers lead small groups of children in activities throughout the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door.

• Sweep It Up• Flashlight Fun• Find the Coin

MAKE IT TRUE (LARGE GROUP)

• Worship• Introductory Sketch• Bible Story

MAKE IT STICKThese activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today’s Bible story and Bottom Line. Offer as many of the following activities as your time, facilities, resources, and leadership allow. You may want to lead one activity at a time. Or, offer two activities at once and allow half the kids to participate in each, then switch groups and repeat the activities.

• One Dot, Two Dot• Three Basic Truths • How Many Coins • Who Has It?• Keepsake

MAKE IT REALMake It Real is designed to help preschoolers understand how the Bottom Line applies to them. They’ll discuss real-life experiences and share prayer requests. Divide kids into small groups of about five to eight children with each leader. Ideally, assign the same small group leader to the same group of preschoolers for the entire year.

• Small Group Time• Prayer

WHAT YOU SAY: Before the Activity: “Come look in the tub with me. What do you see? (Pause.) I see rice too! But guess what! There are coins hiding in the rice that you can’t see. I want you to take turns using your hands to feel around in the rice and see if you can find the hidden coins!”

During the Activity: “Look! You found a coin! Yay! Now see if you can find another one! Finding coins is fun! Now that we found all of the coins, let’s count them together.”

During the Activity: “Do you see the dots on the red hearts? (Pause.) Great! Let’s count the dots. How many do you see on this one? (Pause.) (hold up). Yes there is one dot. Now look at the white page. Do you see a number one on this page? (Pause.) Yes! You are right! There is a number one inside the first heart. Now use your glue stick to glue the red heart with one dot onto the heart with the number 1 in it on the white page. (Allow the children to work.) Perfect! How many dots are on the other heart? (Pause.) You got it! There are two dots! Do you see a number two on the white page? (Pause.) Yes! Now you know where the second heart goes! Use your glue stick to put on the second heart.”

THREE BASIC TRUTHS“Three Basic Truths” is an activity that uses fine motor and listening skills as well as color recognition to review the Bible story and Bottom Line.

(Note: This activity will continue throughout the month. The blue paper, three hot air balloons, clouds, and the children’s story balloons will stay on the wall all month. The children will add more story balloons each week as part of the story review.)

You can see a sample of this activity on the August 2015 Pinterest board found on the First Look Curriculum’s Pinterest page: https://www.pinterest.com/firstlookcurr/

WHAT YOU NEED: “Story Balloon Week 3” from the Activity Pages found on the Website, “sky scene” from previous weeks, white paper, tape, markers, kitchen sponges, plastic plates, red washable paint, and wet wipes

WHAT YOU DO: Before the Activity: Make enough copies of “Story Balloon Week 3” on white paper so when cut apart each child will have one story balloon. Cut heart shapes out of your kitchen sponges for the children to use during the activity.

During the Activity: Give each child a copy of “Story Balloon Week 3.” Instruct the children to write their name in the space provided. Assist when needed. Pour red washable paint on a plastic plate. Show the children how to press a heart-shaped sponge in the paint and then make heart prints inside their story balloon. Immediately wipe hands with a wet wipe or wash in a sink. Tape the balloons near the “God Loves Me” hot air balloon to continue drying.

Great Idea: Make sure to tape the children’s story balloons so they can be easily removed. Encourage your parents to look for their child’s story balloons and take them home at the end of the month.

WHAT YOU SAY: Before the Activity: “We’re going to begin making something very, very special today. Come look at this wall with me. Tell me what you see. (Pause.) Yes! This is a big sky with three hot air balloons. One, two, three! What colors are the hot air balloons? (Pause.) You are so smart! Yes! We have a green balloon that says, ‘God

WHO HAS IT?“Who Has It?” is an activity that uses social, thinking, and language skills to review the Bible story and Bottom Line.

WHAT YOU NEED: Toy coin

WHAT YOU DO: During the Activity: Invite the children to stand in a circle with you. Tell everyone to close their eyes. Give a toy coin to one child and then tell everyone to open their eyes. Pick one child and give him three chances to guess who has the coin. When the child guesses correctly, lead everyone in rejoicing about finding the lost coin. If that child does not guess correctly, pick another child. If by the third child no one guesses correctly, reveal who has the hidden coin and play again.

WHAT YOU SAY: During the Activity: “Come stand with me. I have a fun game for us to play. Who can tell me what this is? (Hold up coin.) Right! This is a coin. In just a minute I want everyone to close their eyes. I will give this coin to one of you to hide in your hand. Then, when we all open our eyes, I will pick someone to try and guess who has the hidden coin. We’ll keep playing until everyone has a turn hiding the coin or looking for it. Ready to play? (Pause.) Okay then, close your eyes. And no peeking!”

After the Activity: “That was fun! You guys are great at that game. In our Bible story today, we learned that God looks for you and me just like the woman looked for her lost coin. That’s right! We mean A LOT to God. After all, God does love us! Who loves you? God loves me!”

KEEPSAKE “Keepsake” is an activity that reinforces the three Basic Truths and gives the children’s parents a special project to keep.

(NOTE: Please make sure you have taken and printed pictures of the children at the balloon photo booth for this week. You will need two more of these pictures for Week 5 so you might consider printing three copies of each child now and save them for later. Consider taking extra photos in case you have a new child or if a child is absent on the picture day. You can take a simple photo of the backdrop that they can use for this project or you can take a photo of you and other leaders being silly with the props.)

WHAT YOU NEED: “Frame” from the Activity Pages found on the Website, white cardstock, glue sticks, picture of each child taken in front of balloon photo booth, and crayons

WHAT YOU DO: Before the Activity: Copy “Frame” onto the card stock. Print a picture of each child with the balloon background.

During the Activity: Give each child an Activity Page and their picture. Encourage them to glue the picture inside the frame on the page. Ask the children to then color the frame and the hearts with crayons.

After the Activity: Talk about the three Basic Truths with the children.

WHAT YOU SAY: Before the Activity: “We have had so much fun talking about starting our new year and going UP, UP, and AWAY learning more about Jesus! Do you remember when I took your picture in our cool balloon photo booth? (Pause.) Great! We are going to use those pictures to make something that your family can keep FOREVER!”

During the Activity: (Give each child an Activity Page and their picture.) “Use your glue sticks to glue your picture inside the frame. (Point.) Awesome job! Now use your crayons to color the hearts and your frame. Make it look BEAUTIFUL for your family!”

SMALL GROUP TIMEWHAT YOU NEED: Paperclip “Memory Verse Card” (from the week one Activity Pages on the Web site) in your Bible at Jeremiah 31:3. Provide a journal and a fun-shaped pen for each small group.

SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): “Have you ever lost something very special, like maybe a favorite toy or something you sleep with every night? (Pause for response.) One time I lost a … (tell a brief personal story about a lost pet or favorite stuffed animal). We looked and looked and I was so happy when we found (name of object/animal)!

“The woman in our story lost something special to her. What was it? Yes, a coin. She looked and cleaned and looked and cleaned until she found it. Was she happy? YES! She was very happy!

“You are special to God like that. God made you and He loves you very much. He loves you so much He wants you to be with Him forever! That’s why God sent Jesus to be your friend forever. Who wants to be your friend forever?”

CHILDREN AND SGL: “Jesus wants to be my friend forever!”

SGL: “That’s right! Jesus wants to be your friend and your friend and your friend … (go around a say this to each child) … FOREVER! The Bible verse we’ve been learning even says that God’s love for us lasts FOREVER! Let’s say it together with the motions.”

CHILDREN AND SGL: “‘I have loved you with a love (hug yourself and twist) that lasts forever’ (stretch arms out to side as wide as you can), Jeremiah 31:3.” (Open hands like a book.) (Repeat the verse a few times together.)

SGL: “Ahh … I love saying that verse. Okay, now it’s time to pray, but first we need to write in our prayer journal. Today we’re going to thank God for sending Jesus to be our friend forever. I’ll write, ‘Jesus wants to be …’ at the top of the paper and then a list of all of your names. Then I’ll write, ‘friend forever!’ at the bottom of the page. We can use it when we pray.

PRAYERSGL: “Dear God, thank You for loving us SO much and for wanting us to be with You forever. Thank You for sending Jesus to be our friend forever. Thank You that Jesus wants to be (name each child)’s friend forever. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
