Answer and Define. Using classroom dictionaries, Google, or
dictionary.com on your phone, look up the answers!
You may work with a partner as needed. Be prepared to share your answers in
class tomorrow.
Check your answers! Cultural Identity- the identity of a
group or culture, or of an individual as far as one is influenced by one’s belonging to a group or culture.
Can you fill out the identity chart for one of The Lost Boys? What correct answers could you create for the category of Other?
Check your answers! Assimilate-to try to absorb into the
customs, attitudes, etc. of a group, nation, or the like; adapt or adjust.
(On a side note, when pertaining to food, assimilate means to absorb.)
What examples did you come up with from the documentary? What did the boys do to try to fit in?
Check your answers! Acculturation-two cultures coexist
together but are still two distinct groups. As they mix or blend, the two cultures may clash or experience conflicts.
What happened as the American and Sudanese people tried to blend together? Was it rough at times?
Check your answers! Cultural landscape-the visible human
imprint activity on the landscape; how people have changed and shaped the environment such as buildings, fences, churches, statues, etc.
Examples the Ancient Egyptian pyramids, the Roman Coliseum, etc.
Check your answers! Cultural marker-It can be an event or
something that reveals societal norms. It can be defined as something very
specific that distinguishes one culture from another (i.e. breakdancing in the 80s, fashion trends such as bell bottoms in the 60s, the Civil War, 9-11)
What would be a cultural marker for The Lost Boys?
