INTRODUCTIONIn this presentation, I will tell you about how

science and technology have changed the game of

football . I will also show you how the various

technological rules and regulations implemented in

the game have created buzz around the world.

Goal line technologyGoal-line technology is a method used to

determine when the ball has slightly crossed

the goal line with the assistance of electronic

devices and at the same time assisting the

referee in awarding a goal or not.

Page 6: Goal line technology

It’s Inclusion

Questions arised to include it in the

game during 2000

Referee gave wrong decision for the

penalty shootout

Match was played between Nigeria

and Cameroon

Ball had actually crossed the line but

refree denied it

Nigeria lost the game.

Page 7: Goal line technology

On 5 July 2005 , IFAB officially approved the use of goal

line technology. The two systems approved in principle

were involved in test phase 2:

Goal Ref Electromagnetic

induction

Ball has special

copper coils in it

Notifies ref within 1

second via watch

Hawk Eye 6 Cameras focused on

each net

Predicts where ball will

go

Notifies ref within 1

second via watch

Technology Estimated cost per

stadium

Goal Ref $ 250000

Hawk Eye $ 325000

Page 8: Goal line technology

It’s objective

To support the role of

referees

Not to replace referee’s role

To provide clear decision

Help referee in making final

decision

Page 10: Goal line technology

FIFA REQUIREMENTS

-Only used in goal situations

-Must be accurate

-Referee notified of the goal within one

second

-Indication of goal only committed to

Referee

Page 11: Goal line technology

Advantages of GLT

= More Accurate Calls

= Modernize Sport

=Reduces Human error factor

=Referees can overrule the

technology

Goal line technology in World

Cup 2014-This time the game between France

and

Honduras in group stage was decided

by

the goal line technology.

-France beat Honduras by 3-0 in which

one

of the goal was decided by GLT.

-The goal was scored by Karem

Benzema

-The game was quiet controversial.

DISADVANTAGES OF GLT

Technology is not 100% accurate.

Its installation is very costly.

It ruins the heart and soul of the game.

Some older fans are more reluctant to trust technology in making those kind of goal decisions.

Brazuca-Official ball of Fifa 2014 world cup

-Made by Adidas Scientific Research

centre

-Made from polyurethane

-Improved grip, touch, stability and

aerodynamics on the pitch

- Increases the speed of the game

Page 16: Goal line technology

Science in making Brazuca

Has six polyurethane panels

All are bonded to keep the ball of

same weight and roundness

Even in the heaviest of rain it retain its

roundness

Provides faster flight speed

Maintains true roundness

Page 17: Goal line technology

Description

- Bladder of brazuca ball is made of

latex

- Provides the desired rebound

- Highly textured

- Feels like adidas’finale used in 2013

UEFA

- Available in bold white, night

blue,multicolor

- Most colourful ball ever

Page 18: Goal line technology
Page 19: Goal line technology

Stats: Weighs 437 grams and has a low absorption rate,

meaning it can retain shape and weight even in rain.

Vanishing Foam-Vanishing foam is a new technology used in

football.

-Foam is applied as a line during free kicks and

Penalty shootouts

-Helps referee in checking the player if he

crosses the marked distance

Page 21: Goal line technology

ADVANTAGES

Prevents unnecessary delay

Prevent unnecessary delays by

preventing the defensive team from

encroaching closer

Prevents the attacking team from

illegally moving the ball from the spot
