Congratulations on entering the GO TRI Catterick Kids Triathlon 2017. We would like to wish you the very best of luck with your preparation and training for the race, but don't forget, its not just a race. This event is for you try triathlon and see if you enjoy it… hopefully you will!!!

Please fully read all of the details in this race information pack. (Please note that all of the information attached in this race information pack is subject to change).

directions to catterick garrison leisure The GO TRI Catterick kids Triathlon is located at the Catterick Leisure Centre and is based on the east of the Yorkshire Dales. Situated 3 miles south of Richmond town, just 5 miles off the A1(M) Sat Nav Detail / postcode: DL9 3EL… The SAT NAV bit is for your parents so make sure they know where to take you!

TRAFFIC INFORMATION FOR YOUR PARENTS- There are currently major roadworks around the A1 area of Catterick Village and Catterick Garrisoon. This however will not affect your journey. Due to a new slip road opening on the A1, it’s now in fact a lot easier to reach the garrison. The new roundabout is that leads to the Garrison from the A1 is accessible from both north and south carriageways. Follow the diversion signs for Catterick Garrison. However please leave plenty of time for travelling in case there are any unexpected diversions.

parking - free parking for mum and dad On race day (18th June), the car park of the centre will be closed. Mums and dads will need to park in the allocated car park across the road at Tesco’s.

TESCOS HAVE ALLOCATED PARKING FOR US. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER PARKING OR TRY TO PARK ON THE ROADS. THE ROAD CLOSURE WILL BE IN PLACE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RETRIEVE YOUR CAR UNTIL 12 MIDDAY!

There is a pedestrian crossing from Tesco’s to the CLC so you can safely cross the

catering There’ll be food and drinks available for you pre and post event. Hot beverages are also available for friends and family who are watching! Make sure you tell your parents to have some food ready for you when you finish!.

rules The event will abide by the rules of the British Triathlon Federation and parents are advised to familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations that’ll be applied to this race. If you require further information about Race Rules, please visit www.britishtriathlon.org or telephone the British Triathlon Federation on 01509 226161.

helmets BSI, ANSI or SNELL approved hard shell helmets will be compulsory and must be worn throughout the cycle section. They must be fastened prior to mounting your cycle and neither undone nor removed until your bike is racked.

bikes It is the responsibility of all competitors to ensure that their bike is in a roadworthy condition and adheres to the rules and regulations as specified by the British Triathlon Federation. Please note that road bikes, time trial bikes and mountain bikes are permitted in this event.

changing and toilet facilities You may use any of the centres changing facilities and lockers if you wish.

Registration Registration Open – Sunday 18th June 1030am at RACE HQ/REGISTRATION TENT. Do not leave it until five minutes before registration closes to attend. If there is a queue you may find yourself unable to complete registration in time to race.

registration procedure Phase one – Number Identification On arrival at registration, find your race number from the lists displayed at the entrance. This will also be sent out a few days before the event.

Phase two – Race documentation Collect your race envelope, this will contain 1x race belt number (you must bring your own race belts. You may hire one at race HQ if you forget to bring one or use safety pins) 1x helmet sticker1 x frame sticker. Please keep these safe, as they are required to allow entry into the transition area.

Phase three – Timing Chip Continue forward, collect your Timing Chip. Do not lose your Timing Chip as you will need it to race. There will be a charge if you lose your chip through Jaguar Timing Services.

race information & timings Transition Area Timings Open Sunday 18th June from around 1045hrs. Competitors are only able to rack their bikes on Sunday morning between the times above. Our marshals will guide you in to the transition area. Please note that the main race will be in play whilst you enter the live transition zone so please be careful.

Your approved cycle helmet must be attached to your bike when you rack it. Remember when racking your bike to place your bike number with the saddle post directly over the number on the racking. Please rack only in your designated place, any bikes found incorrectly racked will be removed.

PARENTS- you may enter transition with your child to rack their bike and help set up their transition area if you wish. Please be vigilant and be aware of the main race activities whilst moving around in the transition area. It can be very hectic in there!!

race briefing (mandatory) There’ll be a short race briefing around race HQ after everyone registers. Please attend this race briefing as any last minute changes, as well as any questions will be announced. PARENTS PLEASE ATTEND WITH YOUR CHILD.

start times Start times will be like the main race with one athlete at a time, with 30 second intervals. We will try to keep age groups the same but they may be mixed. Your start time will published on the week before the event (like the main race) however we aim to go for about 1150hrs for the first athlete. This will be announced if changed.

The 8 year old race will go first, followed by the 9-10 age group.

DO NOT BE LATE. THE STARTERS WATCH IS THE MAIN TIME. HE WILL BE IN COMMS WITH THE RACE DIRECTOR TO ENSURE A SMOTH AND CONSISTENT FLOW.

Kit list The kit for this event is very basic and you should not be too concerned with it all.

• Kids tri suit (all in one piece for all elements of the race), optional • If tri suit not worn, swimming shorts/suit • Googles • Swim hat

• T-shirt (if not wearing a tri suit)

• Bike • Helmet • Trainers

And that is pretty much it. To help with the process this is how the race would roughly proceed:

1. Swim starts (wearing swim kit) 2. Exit swim to transition area to bike 3. Put on T-shirt (already with race number affixed to it) 4. Put on trainers 5. Put on helmet 6. Pick up bike 7. Cycle starts 8. Count cycle laps 9. Head back to transition area 10. Rack bike and take off helmet 11. Head out to the run course 12. Complete laps 13. Finish.

the swim The swim will be conducted in the Leisure centre main pool (25m) with two lanes. Ages 8- 50 metres (2 laps) in Lane 1 Ages 9-10 - 100 metres (4 laps, 2 in Lane 2, 2 in Lane 1, then exit). You may tumble turn under the lane rope if you wish, if not, you may push and glide.

As you enter the pool from the changing rooms, you must walk clockwise around the pool to the DEEP END to start. Marshals will make sure you are in race number order to prevent confusion. The race official on pool side will call each athlete forward and set you off for your swim. Swim caps are not issued but may be worn if preferred.

the bike The bike course is on a fully closed road and is based on laps in accordance with age. The Cours is flat and should not be too challenging. When leaving for the bike course, you must bear left on the driveway and turn left when you hit road. You must then do the set amount of laps. Please count your own laps.

Please remember that there may be others on the course that may not be as experiences as you so please be polite at all times and of course RIDE SAFE!

When you’ve finished your laps, turn back into the leisure centre ( bear left) dismount at the dismount line and then rack your bike ready for the run.

Ages 8- 1100m bike (4 laps) Ages 9-10- 1580m bike (6 laps)

All major junctions will be both signposted and marshalled but cyclists should familiarise themselves with the route prior to competing.

the run The run course is also flat and should not be too challenging! Its based on a fully closed card (please see site map) with laps in accordance with age. You will follow the same route out of transition as the main race and across the main race area in front of the centre. You will then turn right onto the car park and run clockwise for your laps. To start anew lap, bear right at the finish line (this will be marked) and continue, when you finish your laps, bear left to finish, again, this will be marked with signs and marshals.

results Any queries relating to provisional results posted on the web must be e-mailed to [email protected] no later than Wednesday 21st June 2017. Jaguar Timing systems will provide state of the art timing with precision data for you to review upon completion at the results tent.

prize giving This will take place at the transition/finish area, approximately 20 minutes after the last competitor has finished subject to timings on the day. Please listen out for public announcements.

Trophies and a prize will be awarded to the following categories:

This is a participation event and with the current low numbers we’ve decided that everyone will receive a finishers medal and have chance to be on the podium for a special memory for them to keep. We don’t want anyone to be disheartened by saying “the winner is”… everyone on this race is equal. The winners will of course be published and get bragging rights!

mechanical bike support Although there will be a mechanic on site, it is the parents responsibility to ensure that bikes are fully functional and safe.

medical If you have any known medical conditions (such as diabetes, asthma, allergy to penicillin, etc.) please ensure you have informed us prior to the race on your application. Whether you have a medical condition or not, if you feel unwell on race day - don't race! There will be a first aid tent located on site.

photography Spectators are encouraged to take photos. PB multi-sport UK has allowed this in return that we may use some of the photos you have taken. There’ll be an event photographer on course.... So smile ☺. Due to safety and standard operating procedures, spectators’ will not be allowed pool side, however the course offers many advantage points to view the rest of the race from.

Parents Mums and dads, please note, the only time you can be with you child for the race is in transition area during set up. When the race is live, you must be spectating from outside of the race area and route. Please do not attempt to gain access to the transition area or the routes as this may cause an accident.

catterick triathlon volunteers – you can help The Catterick Triathlon cannot run smoothly without the help of its many volunteers. If you have any friends or family that’ll be supporting you at the race, why not ask them if they would be willing to give up a few hours to get involved & help.

Volunteers are required in and around transition, on the bike and run course as well as on the feed stations. You do not require any previous experience or
