Go on a nature scavenger hunt in your garden or

ask an adult to take you on a short walk. Collect as

many interesting natural objects as you can, then

either...

● Create your own nature table or box - find a

space to display your natural objects and label

them to show what they are (see below).

● Or draw and label the natural objects you have

found to create a nature journal (see below).

You may need to do some research to find out what

you have collected!

To get started, decorate a cardboard box and cut a

hole in one side which you can fit your hand

through. Then place all of your natural items inside

the box (Note: if you do not have a box, you could

use a bag or a tray with a cloth over it).

It is important that you can’t see the objects inside

the box!

Create a fun game with the interesting natural objects you found on your walk.

There are 2 versions you can choose to play, or you can create your own game!

Version 1To begin, player 1 puts their hand inside the box

and picks up an object.

Player 1 then describes the object to the other

player/players. You could describe the shape, the

size and the texture to give the other players clues.

The player who guesses correctly wins that object,

and the player with the most objects at the end is

the winner!

Version 2For this version, you will need to create playing cards for all of

the natural objects inside your box. On each card, draw/sketch

the objects.

To start the game, all cards are placed facing down. Players take

it in turns to turn over a card, and then have 20 seconds to put

their hand in the box and find the object. If you find the object in

20 seconds, you keep the card and put the object back, ready for

the next player's turn.

The winner is the player with the most cards at the end of the

game!

Think about some rules you could introduce to make the game even trickier! Some possible

rules are:

- A set time limit for the person to describe the object (10-15 seconds)

- Adjectives to describe an object can only be used once in a game. For example, if Player

1 described a piece of bark as ‘rough’, Player 1 would not be allowed to use that

adjective again!

- Add in some man-made objects as well as natural objects! What could you add from

around your house?
