Student and alumna profiles

Siu WongBA EnglishSecond year

I am a second year BA English student from Hong Kong. I am currently undertaking a placement with Nottingham Playhouse as an editorial assistant, through which I am gaining invaluable knowledge of the theatre industry.

In my first year, I enrolled on two Nottingham Advantage Award modules – public speaking and Save the Children enterprise. The best experience was organising a fundraiser for the charity and gaining hands-on event management experience. After graduation, I am looking to get into arts marketing or management.

My objective this year is to improve my transferable skills and enhance my employability. So I am seeking more marketing-related experiences where I can apply my analytical and research skills professionally.

Phuong Nhu (Fiona) DoMSc Risk Management, graduated 2013Investment division, Royal Bank of Scotland

My name is Phuong Nhu (Fiona) Do, Fiona is a name that my dear Kiwi host parents gave when I was studying in high-school in New Zealand. I graduated from The University of Nottingham with distinction in MSc Risk Management in 2013.

I was then offered a graduate role at the Royal Bank of Scotland in its investment division where I have rotated through three teams: Equity Derivatives Trade Support, Interest Rate Derivative Settlements, and Risk and Control for Client Valuations and Collateral Management. I really enjoy the current rotation in Risk and Control as there are many occasions when I apply things that I learnt in lectures to work and often receive positive feedback as well as challenges from senior management.

Thinking back about the past two years, the time at university was one of the best times in my life. Perhaps, because it was when I felt the sense of achievement, the confidence that an international individual can make a stand in the competitive job market, and above all, it was when I felt the university has what one would expect: knowledgeable and supportive lecturers and staff.
