Go
This week in Play School we explore things that „go‟! This includes human, animal and
mechanical movement.
Each day a „go‟ obstacle course has been developed with a different theme to encourage
creativity as well as gross motor coordination.
Young children‟s ability to physically move and manoeuvre around their environment
increases with age, practice and awareness. For some children physical movement may be
limited due to a disability. It is important to be encouraging and accepting of children as
they learn to „go‟ about their surroundings.

that you see moving.

MAKE AND DO
How to Paint a Picture to Music
You will need:
Large pieces of paper, such as
butcher‟s paper
Different coloured paint
Paint brushes
Music
Large plastic containers you can fit your
feet into
This activity can get messy, so you might like to
paint outside and keep a bucket of warm,
soapy water and some old towels on hand to
clean up afterwards.
Ask an adult to play different types of music
while you paint. Paint in time to the music –
paint quickly to fast music and slowly to slow
music etc. Stop painting when the music stops!
First, try painting with paint brushes. Then, try
using your fingers and hands.
Fill some large plastic containers with paint and
put some paper on the ground. Dip your feet
into the paint and use them to paint a picture
to music. Be careful it‟s slippery!
How to Make a ‘Go’ Course
You will need:
Anything you can use to run around,
crawl under or roll on to make an
obstacle course. For example, chairs,
tables, bean bags, buckets, cushions, a
mattress etc.
Find a large space to build your obstacle
course in, such as a backyard or a large room.
Place your items a short distance apart and
have fun moving in different ways from one
object to another.
Try walking, crawling, rolling and jumping.
Ready, set go!

IDEAS FOR LATER
Go on a treasure hunt in your backyard or
a play ground.
Make a delicious fruit salad or fruit kebab.
Play a “What‟s Missing?” game with a
friend. Collect a few different objects, such
as toys, fruits and vegetables and line them
up in a row. One person has to close their
eyes while the other takes one of the
objects away. The person with their eyes
closed has to look at all the objects and
guess what‟s missing. Take turns guessing!
