• This piece although simple in nature, has a strong celebratory sound from the beginning. The rhythms are simple but give the effect of a very exciting sound that would be a great way to start a concert for beginner band.

• This piece would be good for teaching beginner band more subtle and chorale like aspects. The melody line is very elegant and is met with texture from other parts. It would be a good contrasting piece to more lively upbeat pieces.

• This piece incorporates lots of percussion all throughout. A simple flute solo opens the piece and powerful motives unfold from there. This would be good in concert to highlight the percussion section

African Marching Song

• This piece is very rhythmically interesting. Percussion patterns repeat through the song keeping the African feel moving. It is a typically call and response, popular in African music.

• This piece replicates the sound of a jet plane in takeoff, then flying through the sky. The percussion parts are constantly moving, keeping up the fast paced feel of the piece.

• This piece teaches the importance of articulation. It moves along very playfully and quickly. It begins with a very bright tempo and moves into a maestoso before racing to the end.

• This piece explores the styles of rubato, tenuto, and vibrato. This piece recreates a fall day when leaves are turning colors and falling from trees. It paints a beautiful picture through its peaceful sounds.

• The melody remains constant throughout yet moves around the band. The surrounding harmonies and texture are constantly changing and blending with the melody. A large battery of percussion help complement the winds giving a very natural sound.

• This piece depicts a struggle between nature and machine. The haunting melody slowly transforms as the machine around it grows. It is represented by layering and varied percussion sounds. It is very contrasting it dynamics and uses a variety of articulations before returning to its original sound at the end.

• This Irish Lullaby has been developed into a gorgeous piece. There is a combination of lush harmonies and lilting melodies full of charm. It explores the full spectrum of tonal colors and is a nice chorale piece. Towards the middle there is a change of pace with two solo parts followed by a full band rit.

• This piece begins by depicting calm, rolling waves with the use of crescendos and decrescendos. It then goes into a trumpet fanfare summoning warships. Many exciting sounds are created through the percussion section. This brings the piece to a powerful climax.

• This piece depicts the Egyptain sun god. It begins with “sunrise” the beginning of a new day. The music continues to be more vibrant, with a strong crescendo through the whole band. The next section id the sun in the sky, depicting the sun flying through the sky. This piece is captivating all the way to the end

• This work is based on “the Divine Comedy”. It uses strong percussion parts to create contrasting crescendos. The piece is fast paced all throughout. The flutes and woodwinds create a fast moving sound with trills and moving parts throughout.

• This piece develops When Jonny Comes Marching Home. It is march style with strong accents and contrasting styles throughout. The melody travels through different sections of the ensemble. Strong percussion beats keep the piece moving along.

• This piece is very slow and soft in nature. It is a nice change of pace to put in a more upbeat concert. There is a large amount of brass sound with a trumpet solo about halfway through. It begins very laid back in tempo but picks up as the song goes on before returning to a slower tempo at the end. I really like this piece.

• This piece is really enjoyable. It is not too fast, yet it still exciting and expressive. It has a celebratory sound presented through the brass. It is a longer piece but would be a good piece to end a concert with.

• This piece puts variations on a patriotic piece. Some are very legato while others are in a march style. The melody travels around the band and even switches keys. There is a variety of styles to be heard in this piece.
