Did you know?Many Gluten Free baked products are actually MORE fattening and higher in calories than Non Gluten Free baked products.

Here is why: When wheat flour (which is lower onthe gylcemic index and higher in fiber)is replaced with lower fiber higherglycemic flours such as corn, potatoand rice flours, the sugar and caloriecontent goes up!

This not only add caloriesbut this makes theabsorption rate into yourblood stream very rapid.When this happens, yourbody reacts by creating aninsulin spike which in turnwill make you more hungryand ultimately heavier.

When Eating Gluten Free:
It is BEST to stick with whole foods such as rice, whole sweet potatoesor yams, Gluten Free oatmeal or quinoa vs. the baked goods.

If you must indulge with pancakes, waffles, muffins etc… don’t assume that the Gluten Free varieties are healthier for you.

Instead of buying thepre-packaged readymade frozen GlutenFree items and bakedgoods, make themyourself from scratchadding higher fiberfoods such as oatmealinto the flour.

If you do not have time tomake these from scratch,use ½ of a gluten free mixand substitute the other ½with oatmeal. Usingoatmeal in the mix willlower the glycemic index,slow down the absorptioninto your blood stream andcontrol that insulin spike.

If you are a Celiac or Gluten intolerant it is amust to stick to a gluten free diet, but to beon a Gluten Free Diet to “just lose weight”obviously will not work if you startsubstituting gluten containing baked productswith gluten free baked products.
