THANK YOU
We appreciate Marsha Jones for leading our young ladies in changing the various bulletin boards in our classrooms throughout the building. We are blessed to have a number of fine young people at Gloster Street, and we are thankful for their energy and enthusiasm. Thank you for a job well done!
WORSHIP ASSIGNMENTS
In an effort to communicate in a more efficient way, we will begin emailing assignments to those leading in our worship services. Please make sure the church office has your current email address. You can do this by sending a message to [email protected]. If you prefer to receive a paper copy of the assignments, please call the office to make those arrangements. We will, of course, continue to list the appointments on the back of each bulletin. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.
May God Bless You All!

“THIS IS LOVE…”
by Chad Ramsey
The word love is often used and seldom understood. Perhaps this is because its meaning has
been cheapened. Rather than being used to describe only the highest emotional feeling—the one
that always seeks the best for others, the word love is used to describe the way that we feel about
everything from food, to television shows, to football teams. But our preferences, no matter how
strong they are, will never come close to equaling true love. So what is love?
Two passages in the Scriptures actually contain the phrase: “this is love.” The first describes
the willingness of God to send His Son Jesus to die upon the cross. John wrote: “In this is love,
not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1
John 4:10). Thus, God’s act of sending Jesus to earth was an act of love, and that act of love was
also motivated by love (John 3:16). It’s also noteworthy that Jesus’ willingness to give up His
own life perfectly illustrates true love. As John noted: “By this we know love, because He laid
down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren” (1 John 3:16).
The second passage, also written by the apostle John, states: “This is love, that we walk
according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the
beginning, you should walk in it” (2 John 6). Just as God’s willingness to send Jesus to the earth
stands as an example of love, so our willingness to live in submission to Jesus’ commandments
stands as an example. If we truly love Jesus, we will be willing to keep His commandments (John
14:15). This type of love is genuine, and it transcends our fleeting emotions.
