Today we celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy. St. Faustina
was privileged to receive apparitions from Jesus
emphasizing his mercy, especially today. Jesus promised
that those who go to Confession and receive Holy
Communion today will receive forgiveness of their sins
as well as the total remission of all temporal punishment
for their sins. Beginning at 2:30pm on Sunday, we will
have devotions for the Feast of Divine Mercy including
Confessions, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, and
Divine Chaplet. After the 6:00pm bilingual mass, a
reception will take place in Marian Hall. Thanks to the
Apostolate of Divine Mercy for arranging this special
celebration.
Let me take this opportunity to express my immense
gratitude to all those who worked during our Holy
Triduum and Easter celebrations. Our wonderful liturgies
and rituals for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy
Saturday, and Easter Sunday were beautifully
coordinated thanks to the planning and execution by
many, many volunteers: Sister Chris, the cantors and the
choir, members of the Ensemble, members of the Spanish
Choir, altar servers under the direction of Jessie Kunnel,
lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion,
greeters/ushers, sacristans, the Hispanic community, and
all those who spent many hours decorating the church.
On a broader scale, this weekend we honor all
parishioners who dedicate their time and talents to the
various ministries of St. Catherine Labouré. The yearly
Volunteer Appreciation Dinner highlights and honors our
esteemed volunteers. Through their talents and time,
they enliven and exemplify the parish mission of Sharing
Christ with Love in Glenview and around the world.
Thank you to:
Volunteers who help us worship—those named above, all
other members of the Liturgy Committee, those who
maintain the Holy Family Chapel for perpetual adoration,
those who maintain the Shrine to Our Lady of Fatima and
the Choose Life Shrine, and those who lead or sponsor the
various prayer devotions available here
Volunteers who help us grow in faith: Catechists for
Religious Education, Hispanic Religious Education, and
SPecial REligious Development, leaders of the Youth
Group, the Cursillo community, those who prepare adults
for initiation into the Catholic Church, those who help
couples prepare for marriage, and members of the
Adult Faith Formation committee as well as the teachers
and staff in our school who, though not volunteers, accept
a lower salary than their public school colleagues in order
to teach and share our Catholic faith, morals, and doctrine
Volunteers who support our school: School Board, Parent
Club and Booster Club members as well as those who
help out with tutoring, lunchtime meal preparation and
supervision, chaperoning field trips and other needs
Volunteers who tend to the needs of others or society in
general: Ministers of Care, members of the Bereavement
Ministry, members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul,
teachers in the English as a Second Language program,
Inclusion Ministry, the Respect Life Committee, Knights of
Columbus, the Ladies Auxiliary, those who work with
Catholic Charities, and those who seek out and/or
volunteer with organizations in need of our alms
Members of social and other organizations that also do so
much good for the parish: Women’s Club, Asian American
Association, the Hispanic Community, and the Garden
Club
Those who tend to the business needs and plan for the future
of the parish: Parish Council and Finance Council
Pastoral Team: Fr. Mair and Fr. Isaac, who have been a
constant help celebrating masses, and Deacons Ray Gavin
and Mike Bretz who continue to engage in ministries, assist
in baptism preparation classes, celebrate baptisms, and
preach and assist at mass
With the Volunteer Appreciation Party, we celebrate the
many talents shared in our parish and also invite volunteers
to get to know each other across the various ministries to
enhance the social aspect of our parish. Please join me in
thanking all the volunteer workers at St. Catherine who
continuously help us to Share Christ with Love.
A special note to all current and future volunteers:
The Archdiocese of Chicago’s Renew My Church initiative
challenges all parishioners to rethink how to be church at
this time when we have very few priests and therefore
need the help of lay volunteers more than ever. From
February 2021 through February 2022, St. Catherine
Labouré will go through a grouping process with
Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Norbert/Our Lady
of the Brook. You, beloved parishioners, will help to
shape the future of St. Catherine and of the presence
of Catholicism in Glenview and Northbrook area.
Renew My Church will seek input from the dedicated
parishioners such as you when the time comes. This is
a time to shine, a time for St. Catherine Labouré to
showcase the many ways we Share Christ with Love.
May God bless you and your family.
Fr. Maina
With you a Christian, for you a priest

Inspiration for the Week
Peace be with you! These calming words lessened
the disciples' anxiety and gave them a wonderful
sense of reassurance. Words have the power to do
that. Jesus touches his friends with his breath and
breathes his Spirit upon them. This intimate gesture
of peace begins to alleviate the uncertainty and
fear that no doubt consumed their thoughts and
hearts. Words and gestures are so important in
doing God's work. Even the simplest of greetings
and actions can profoundly move people and direct
them to God. On this Sunday of Divine Mercy, we
are reminded that God's all-forgiving and merciful
love comes to us through the risen Christ. By our
words and actions, may we show that forgiveness
and merciful love to others.

Care for parishioners who are sick is important to us. Please let us
know what spiritual care is needed when by calling the rectory at
847-729-1414, option 3. In cases of hospitalization, tell the hospital
staff the religious affiliation and parish of the patient. Finally, contact
the hospital’s Pastoral Care Office at any time during a hospital stay.
To have Communion brought to someone’s home, please call the rectory.

special moment will be when one of our Friends receives the
Sacrament of Confirmation. Please come and pray with us and
afterwards, join us for agape in the vestibule.

The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People
was approved in 2002 by the bishops of the United States Catholic
Conference. The latest revision was approved June 2018. The
Charter reinforces what the Archdiocese of Chicago is doing by
requiring all dioceses to:
Heal and promote reconciliation of victim-survivors and
their families
Make prompt and effective response to abuse allegations
Cooperate with civil authorities
Discipline offenders
Create a safe environment for children and young people
through training and screening
Provide means of accountability for the future and to ensure
the problem continues to be effectively dealt with through the
Secretariat of Child and Youth Protection and the National
Review Board
Every year the Archdiocese of Chicago participates in an audit of
the implementation of the Charter’s requirements. Every year the
archdiocese passes the audit.
Note: To report an allegation of abuse and/or neglect of minors, contact
the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Hotline at
800-25ABUSE and/or your local police department. You can also contact
