Global Warming

An average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere near the Earth’s surface and in the troposphere1, which can contribute to changes in global climate patterns

Page 3: Global warming & greenhouse effect

Causes Of Global Warming

1. Impacts Of Burning of fossil fuels

2. Impacts Of Greenhouse Gases Emission

Page 4: Global warming & greenhouse effect

1. Impacts Of Burning of fossil fuels :-

Power Plants

Transportation

Industrial processes

Page 5: Global warming & greenhouse effect

2. Impacts Of Greenhouse Gases Emission :-

Agriculture

Forestry

Other Land Uses

Waste management

Page 6: Global warming & greenhouse effect

Example : Using natural gas to cook CH4 + 2O2 CO2 + 2H2O

Besides carbon dioxide, other gases such as

methane, chlorofluorocarbons,

nitrogen oxides and ozone also contribute to the greenhouse effect.

HAVE YOU

HEARD THE

WORLD IS

GETTING

HOTTER?

YES,THAT’S

BAD NEWS

ISN’T IT?

Page 8: Global warming & greenhouse effect

The earth is heating up too fast and it’s all

people’s fault because of

pollution…..

Page 9: Global warming & greenhouse effect

So how does this affect us.

Page 10: Global warming & greenhouse effect

The ice sheets

are melting

very fast.

Rising at an average rate of

1 - 2 mm/year over the past 100

years

Page 11: Global warming & greenhouse effect

Without ice, where will my poor friends(penguins and polar bear) will go.

Page 12: Global warming & greenhouse effect

As the ice melts , the oceans will fill up and overflow on the land.

Page 13: Global warming & greenhouse effect

Increase in greenhouse gases

• Concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is highly increasing by human activities

→ Leads to the increasing seriousness of global

warming

Page 14: Global warming & greenhouse effect

Global Surface Temperatures

• Increased about 0.6°C/century since the late19th century

• Increased to 2°C/century over the past 25 years

Page 15: Global warming & greenhouse effect

NOT Globally Uniform Warming

• Warming parts: -- North America -- Eurasia • Cooling parts: -- parts of the southeastern U.S.

Measures on controlling the problem

• Government1. Set some laws to limit the amount of pollutants

produced by factories2. Develop the skills of using renewable fuels, e.g.

solar energy, wind energy3. Encourage the factories to replace fossil fuels by

renewable fuels, which would not cause environmental pollution

4. Carry out energy saving scheme → reduce the pollution produced by burning fossil fuels

5. Build more plants → reduce the pollutants e.g. CO2

Page 17: Global warming & greenhouse effect

• Citizens1. reduce the use of plastic bags → as burning

plastic emit CH42. recycle the resources, e.g. plastic 3. reduce the use of sprays → as CFCs would be

emitted out4. reduce the use of air-conditioner, which will

emit CFCs5. use public transportation instead of private

cars → reduce the pollutants emitted by cars
