Global EH&S Survey 2015: EH&S Software Brands

This report helps strategy leaders, Chief Marketing Officers and business development directors at EH&S

software firms to measure how corporate EH&S decision-makers perceive their brand and benchmark levels of

awareness and engagement. Verdantix interviewed 312 senior EH&S decision-makers with direct responsibilities

in corporate-wide EH&S management strategies and initiatives, including EH&S information management

software selection. The annual revenues of respondents’ firms were a minimum of $250 million, with 82% of

firms having revenues over $1 billion, representing 21 industries and 15 geographies.

This report helps strategy leaders, Chief Marketing Officers and business development directors at EH&S

software firms measure how heads of EH&S perceive their brand and benchmark levels of awareness and

engagement. The Verdantix survey interviewed 312 senior EH&S decision-makers with direct responsibilities for

corporate-wide EH&S management strategies and initiatives, including EH&S information management

software selection. The annual revenues of responding firms were a minimum of $250 million, with 82% of the

312 firms having revenues greater than $1 billion, representing 21 industries and 15 geographies. This year’s

EH&S leaders survey sample size was expanded by 25% to include new regions and job functions with a more

equal weighting across the constituent parts of EH&S.

Specialists

Which EH&S software firms have the strongest brand awareness, preference and engagement among global

heads of EH&S? To find out, Verdantix asked the survey respondents to describe their perspective on 21 firms in

terms of their ability to provide EH&S information management for large multinational firms. Verdantix found:

SAP, Enablon, IHS and Medgate have the highest level of awareness and engagements.

SAP, Enablon and IHS are the historical leaders in the market, particularly for environmental management

functionality (see Figure 1). Medgate meanwhile has a long track record in occupational health and

industrial hygiene (see Verdantix Medgate Raises The Bar For Occupational Health And Industrial

Hygiene). Global IT provider SAP is leading on brand recognition, with over 80% of respondents

recognizing its brand and 39% expressing interest in possibly engaging with it over the next year.

Enviance and Intelex lead EH&S software specialists in challenging incumbent market leaders.

Specialist EH&S information management software providers are making inroads on challenging the

status quo. Witness Enviance and Intelex, which saw 7% and 5% of respondents, respectively, identify

their product offerings as already being used to support firm-wide EH&S performance. Both firms have

room to grow, with roughly two in five firms recognizing their brand and, on average, 9% of respondents

‘likely to’ or ‘might engage’ with them in the future. Within North America, four of the top five firms

leading current engagements are EH&S software specialists: Medgate (9%), ProcessMAP (7%), Intelex

(7%) and KMI (7%).

Awareness levels of EH&S software firms vary significantly.

Brand awareness of the 21 EH&S software firms surveyed varied from 81% for SAP to 18% for EtQ and

Rivo Software. Apart from SAP, there are only four providers with brand awareness at 50% or higher:

Enablon (57%), DNV GL Synergi Life (54%), IHS (52%) and BSI Entropy (50%). We note that vendors cr360

and thinkstep, both coming at EH&S from a sustainability background, have undergone recent rebrands

solution awareness, following investments by private equity funds in many suppliers (see Verdantix
