is safety.
Let's learn about
the 10 Golden Rules
which are protective
shields of our lives.
The Golden Rules are a set of key health and safety standards that all Vale employees and
contractors must commit to follow.
These rules represent minimum requirements for work execution and do not replace all other Health
& Safety requirements. They are key unbreakable principles to be applied to all employees.
They have been established to reflect one of Vale's values – “Life matters most” – and in order to
SAVE LIVES.
It is common for companies with high hazard operations to have standardized and global
Golden Rules.
The Golden Rules help keep us alert.
What are the
Golden Rules?
Before now there was no unified set of Golden
Rules for Vale. The numbers below indicate the
various differences that were found across the
organization for Golden Rules.

The goal:
Globally unify Vale's Golden Rules aiming
to eliminate/reduce fatalities, significant
and high potential incidents related to
behavioral factors of Vale employees,
including contractors, and to establish
operational discipline and management
of personal conduct.
The global Vale Golden Rules are to be
applied by all departments/businesses
without exception. Any pre-existing
Golden Rules that may have been
developed by the sites is to be
discontinued.
What is the purpose of the implementation of the 10 Golden Rules in Vale's daily routine?
✓ Recognize expected behaviors
✓ Promote safe work environments
✓ Enhance operational discipline
✓ Promote safe attitudes and reinforce the right to refuse work
✓ Eliminate tolerance to deviation in the way work is executed
✓ Differentiate Error from Violation
