Dear Forwarders,
Welcome to our second edition of the CLN Newsletter. Last month the CLN concluded the most successful CLN conference yet, with renewed friendships and new acquaintances ready to develop mutual business for the year 2013.
Prolific companies like Etihad Cargo and DP World London Gateway have been taking part as well and presented their newest product and services to the community of freight forwarders attending the 11th annual conference. You will find a detailed summary of the conference in this edition as well as success stories from one of our member who signed a deal with global conglomerate Hyundai Glovis.
We cannot emphasize it enough, that trust and respect are the essence of dealing with customers and suppliers alike, in our Group these form is part of our core values. While the CLN is rapidly growing, we make it a point to remain a small, focused and quality oriented network so that we can continue to forge lasting business relationships.
Happy reading!

GAINING BUSINESS THROUGH REFFERALS
HOW TO GAIN CARGO BUSINESS THROUGH REFERRALS
CUSTOMER
YOU REFERRAL
According to Jeffrey Gitomer, NY Times bestselling author, a professional motivational speaker and business trainer states, referrals are “the easiest sales to make but the hardest lead to get. You don’t ask for referrals, you earn referrals.”
You can earn these referrals by providing quality service to your customers that meet their expectations and acquaint others about the type of quality service you provide. Word of mouth marketing may occur anytime one of your current customers may recommend your business to someone else, who then on the basis of that recommendation. Feedbacks from you customer may increase your loyal customers and it will maximize your profit growth. A study conducted by the Goethe University Frankfurt and the University of Pennsylvania, on referral programs and customer value. The study found that referred customers were both more profitable and loyal than normal customers. Referred customers had a higher contribution margin, a higher retention rate and were more valuable in both short and long terms.
But going back to Gitomer’s quote, “You don’t ask for referrals, you earn referrals” and you do that by building a name and reputation in the business that people can trust.
References:1. “Referral Programs and Customer Value”, conducted by Phillipp Schmitt (Ph.D student at Goethe University Frankfurt), Bernd Skiera (Professor of Marketing, Goethe University Frankfurt) and Christophe Van den Bulte (Associate Professor of Marketing, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania)2. http://EzineArticles.com/2959933
It will cost you 7 to ten times less to retain your loyal customers than it will to get new ones.
Your loyal clients will help you build business through word of mouth and this is free
Word of mouth is the best kind of marketing
Loyal customers will always buy regardless of any other factor
Loyal clients are more likely to have real money and allow you to charge more for your product or service
Loyalty=always buy=they tell others=pay higher prices=more money=the freedom to do what you love and earning the money you want.
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE ABOUT A REFERRAL MARKETING PROGRAM FOR YOUR OWN FORWARDING COMPANY?

CLN EXCLUSIVE WHITEPAPERS
CLN SIGNS EXCLUSIVE MOU FOR WHITEPAPERSWe are proud to announce that we have signed a memorandum of understanding with industry thought leader Mark Millar. The purpose of White Papers is to provide CLN Members insights for innovative business development.
In February 2013, CLN has initiated an effort to release a report or guide to help members understand issues, solve a problem or make a decision. This document we call “Whitepaper” is exclusively received by our members every other month. This document is superior for solving specific business problems. It may also include research findings and tips about freight forwarding issues.
Mark Millar leverages over 25 years of global business experience to develop and deliver enlightening keynote speeches, and to provide consulting, education and advisory services that create value for clients by improving the performance of their logistics and supply chain activities in China and the Asia Pacific region.
Supply chain outsourcing requires a collaborative management approach in order to successfully appoint and manage third party partners for the provision of logistics and other services. In such scenarios, success is all about multiple entities coming together for the purpose of successfully executing supply chain ecosystems in behalf of customers. We can expect further collaborative outsourcing developments in global chain ecosystems.

UNIQUE SUCCESS OF OUR NETWORK
WHAT DIFFERENTIATES CLN FROM OTHER FREIGHT FORWARDING NETWORK?
Business development is our core value. It’s important that our members engage with each other and develop business. We are the only network to have a ‘CARGO MILES’ program in place, where shipments within the network are rewarded with USD 10/container USD 0.1/kg - members can claim back their membership fees from the CLN – Terms apply.
As opposed to the majority of other networks, we are a reliable and serious community of active forwarders. The network has been established since 2002 in Hong Kong and managed by neutral and dedicated Industry professionals. We are not a supermarket of forwarders, instead we are a quality oriented network with over 200 proactive members, amongst 183 offices in 163 countries.
The live payment monitoring system allows our CLN Secretariat to capture any late-payment incidences and inform the network of any irregularities. All members are sent a monthly PDF of the Network Security Agency list which highlights the updated status of every member. By having this system in place we are able to vastly reduce the networks exposure to wrong-intended forwarders and keep our striving community of forwarders going.
Forwarders are part of multiple networks nowadays; CLN stands out to be one of the more established networks in the freight forwarders world. What differentiates CLN from other freight forwarding network?
