Mark your calendars for December 9, 2010 for a new holiday tradition! The Zilwaukee PTCC would like to invite all teachers and parents to a informal get-together to celebrate the holidays
Zilwaukee staff wants to keep each and every student safe, as well as our school. We expect that all students will
keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves. Zilwaukee has great student leaders in the making!
A special thanks to all of the parents and community businesses who supported our Literacy-based Halloween
Parade and festivities in the classrooms either by donating items or walking with us in the parade. What a beautiful
day! A special thank you is being sent to Mayor Gene Jolin (Honest Abe) and Senator Roger Kahn for walking with
our students.
The first marking period has come to an end. We want to thank all of our parents who came in for conferences.
Thank you for working collaboratively with us on a daily basis. Many of our students have made adjustments with
effort and attitude to date this marking period. We have many shining STARRS at Zilwaukee International Studies
School. All students have the potential to be STARRS academically, behaviorally, and socially. Remember that it
takes a village to raise a child!
I would like to send a special thank you out to our PTCC officers, members, and volunteers. Zilwaukee is a very
fortunate to have you all!
A special THANK YOU goes out to the Zilwaukee Lion’s Club for donating 120 Mini International Flags and
wooden casing to our school. We will be showcasing this in our new addition for all to see!

prekindergarten children cannot wait for the unveiling of their new classrooms! We will also have two new
classrooms and a Science Lab in the first –third grade wing. The time is coming soon for our new entrance,

The Main Differences Between Normal
Peer Conflict and Bullying
Normal Peer Conflict
Equal Power or Friends
Happens occasionally
Accident
Not serious
Bullying
Imbalance of power: not
friends
Repeated negative actions
Purposeful
Serious with threat of physical
or emotional harm
For the safety of our
children and to keep
order, it is important
that we all abide by the
following:· Please be courteous and drive with caution….there are little people out
there.
· Please do not cross the parking lot
between the busses. Walk to and
from the parent parking lot in front of
the busses or behind the busses, not
in between parked busses
Equal emotional reaction
Not seeking power or attention
Not trying to get something
Remorse-will take
responsibility
Effort to solve the problem
or emotional harm
Strong emotional reaction from
victim and little or no
emotional reaction from bully
Seeking power, control, or
material things
Attempt to gain material
things or power
No remorse- blames victim
No effort to solve problem
in between parked busses
Keep the traffic flowing in the
parking lot. If you must stop, please
pull into a parking spot
Colder temperatures
have arrived. This does
not stop us from waiting
outside before school and
going outside for recess.
Please make sure that you
are sending your child(ren)
with the appropriate
outdoor clothing.

The Prep Pack Program is a program put on by the resident director and resident assistants of the Southeast Community at SVSU. Bryan Crainer, the RD, came up with the idea and passed the idea off to Alicia Flynn. The eight Ra’s did fundraisers and asked organizations on campus for allocation money. With this money, They went out and bought school supplies and drawstring bags. Backpacks were stuffed and personally deliver to our school. Students were nominated by their classroom teachers. Thank you to Alicia Flynn and Co- resident
assistants from SVSU. We love our backpacks.
During the first week of November our students received a presentation by Mrs. Munoz
in their classrooms regarding the topic of bullying. Students were also to bring home a
letter addressing anti-bullying and resources, read it with a parent, and then sign and
return to their child’s teacher. If you have not done so, please return it to your child’s
teacher as soon as possible.
Our kindergarten through second graders learned about bullies in a story read to each
class about Howard B. Wiggle Bottom. Our third grade students were taught a song
title, NO, NO Bully. They also have been learning about having the courage to speak
up for others from a book titled Bully B.E.A.N.S.-Bullies Everywhere Are Now Stopped!
Our 4th and 5th grade students are practicing to become HEROES in the Hallways. All
third through 8th grade students were introduced to the differences between normal
peer conflict and bullying.
Our 6th -8th grade students were presented bullying facts through songs and Power
Point presentation. They then responded to a TICKET OUT THE DOOR sentence starter
after their presentation. Some responses are listed below.

There is a ghost in Mrs. Crawford’s 5th
grade classroom! Mr. Rey, our evening custodian, made us aware of a ghost that is hanging out in our classroom. We have searched, and although there has been some unusual “sightings” we are still unable to locate it. Mr. Rey says that the first 5th grader to find the ghost wins a prize. We wrote letters to him explaining where we think the ghost is, but no one has been correct yet. We continue to look everyday. Maybe this explains the weird happenings in our classroom; the
Prego sauce
Campbell’s Ready to Use broth
Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers
V8 beverages and soups
Habitant soups
Pace salsa
Select Campbell’s Foodservice Products qualify for redemption.
Let’s amplify our efforts by asking friends and family to collect labels on
behalf of our school!
If you have any questions, or would like to help with our Labels for
Education collection drive, please contact our program coordinator,
Michele Matzke or Jessie Leckenby, at 399-5200. Don’t forget to visit
www.labelsforeducation.ca for a complete listing of eligible products and
more information about the program.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Together with Campbell’s Labels for
Education – we can build a better school – one label at a time.
Sincerely,
Michele Matzke and Jessie Leckenby
P.S. Please don't forget to also support The Box Tops for Education
Maybe this explains the weird happenings in our classroom; the overhead keeps turning off, the window shades somehow get shut overnight, and the marker bucket keeps falling. We even think this might explain our power outage this week!We will keep you posted. . . Until then, have a BOOtiful week!
