Another wonderful Easter Hat Parade occurred on Friday 11th April to conclude Term 1. The K-2 teachers and their students did themselves proud with many imaginative hats being created including one for our Principal, Mr Arnold, now proudly on display in his office. Well done to Mrs Watts for the co-ordination of the event and the enthusiastic parents and grandparents who formed our audience.

From the Principal Dear Parents Welcome back to Term 2! Thank you so much to all our families for your wonderful support of our fundraising efforts this year. Your donations for our upcoming Mother’s Day stall on Friday have been outstanding and promises to be one of our best ever stalls. The support of our school community is greatly appreciated and the funds will directly benefit all the students in our school. We have also had the best response in recent school history to our request for Voluntary Contributions (school fees). We have received approximately $6500 so far to go towards creating some wonderful spaces for student use in the library and back playground. Invoices were distributed last term and we encourage all families to forward their contributions to the office. If you have misplaced your invoice and need to confirm amount owing please contact the school office.

Park, Jamison Road, Penrith and the first 6 placegetters in each age group have qualified.
On Sunday 6th of April 15 students from Years 5 and 6 travelled to Spotless Stadium at Sydney Olympic Showground. The Glenmore Park students were selected to play in the half-time Auskick game during the Giants and Melbourne AFL game. The Glenmore Park students were very excited to play in front of a crowd of 7,000 spectators against Faulconbridge Public School. The students scored some fantastic goals and kept the other team scoreless. A big thank you to all of the parents and friends who joined us on the day. What a wonderful experience for our students!
Milo T20 Cricket Gala Day
At the end of last Term on 2nd April, 40 students from years 3-6 travelled to St Mary’s Indoor Sport Centre to compete in the Milo T-20
Cricket Gala Day. The students played various other schools and two of our senior teams were successful in remaining undefeated throughout the day. Congratulations to all Glenmore Park students on an outstanding day. Westcare Leadership Program (Trail Blazers)
In Term 1 Westcare ran a program with our current school leaders. This program focussed on modelling positive behaviours, initiating, encouraging others, listening, communicating and making decisions. Well done to all involved! Westcare 'A Girl Like You' program ran in Term 1 with 9 girls across grades 2-6. The girls had a wonderful time with Emily learning about themselves, being unique, making healthy choices and how to develop positive friendships. The girls were involved in lots of fun activities during the sessions!
Salvos Leadership Program
During Term 1 a group of 13 boys across grades 4-6 were involved in a social skills program run by the Salvos. The boys will continue the program in Term 2 developing self awareness, resilience, strengthening self confidence and self esteem. The social skills programs currently running at GPPS are of huge benefit to our students and we look forward to running similar programs throughout the year.
PAYMENT CHANGES TO MOTHER’S DAY STALL 2014
At our Mother’s Day stall this year, the Parent Fundraising Committee have prepared presents in two categories, $5 and $10. On the morning of the stall children will bring in their $5 or $10 note in an envelope to hand to their teacher who will mark off on a class list the present category your child will be selecting from. It would be appreciated if exact money can be provided. Children in each class will be issued with shopping tokens to the value of the money they have paid when they arrive at the stall and will be directed to the appropriate present table to make their selection assisted by the Fundraising Committee. Due to the large number of donations children will have the

opportunity to purchase more than one present. We are accepting donations of items for the stall through until tomorrow, Wednesday 7th May. The Fundraising Committee hopes that all families will support this yearly fundraising event for our School. Please note: The District Cross Country students will be able to purchase their gifts at 8:30am before they leave.
EASTER EGG RAFFLE At our recent Easter Egg Raffle the Fundraising Committee raised a total of $1687. Congratulations to the hard working committee who gave so much of their time in making this event a success and the school community in donating the items that formed our prizes.
2W MEET THE TEACHER MEETING Parents from our newly formed Year 2 class, 2W will have an opportunity to meet 2W teacher Miss Witherspoon this Wednesday at 3:15pm in the 2W classroom. Miss Witherspoon will outline her planning and procedures for 2014 and provide a chance for parents to see their children’s new classroom.
SPORT TEAM UNIFORMS The past few years have seen an increase of the number of students at our school participating in physical activity at school, and in particular, representative sport. Last year our senior girls were the only team in the State Paul Kelly Cup not wearing AFL jerseys. Although it didn’t affect our skill—we won the Cup, it outlined the need for our school to keep abreast of the trends in sports management. So with the support of some special funding we began a project to update the equipment and uniforms for the representative sports our school participates in. New netball bibs were purchased and, for the first time our school basketball teams now have singlets to play in. However, we needed to raise sponsorship for jerseys for the other sports. Our first sponsorship was for our rugby league teams. Thank you to the family whose business ‘Shades’ was responsible for their new look rugby shirts. The Pease family came to our rescue with a sponsorship from ‘Sydney Dragway’ to upgrade our soccer jerseys. Thank you to the Pease family. As a result of running lunchtime activities with AFL NSW coaches we now have a sponsorship by the AFL for our first set of AFL jerseys. Thank you to those students and their parents who, by supporting this program, secured the sponsorship for us. Although new equipment and pants for softball were purchased we are now looking for a sponsor to upgrade our 18 year old and very tired softball jerseys. (2 sets of jerseys cost around $1000). So if your business, or one you know of, would be interested in supporting our final uniform project, please contact the school office or Mrs Daniel. Once again a huge thanks go out to SHADES, SYDNEY DRAGWAY, and AFL NSW.
IT’S ACADEMIC In the second half of last year Miss Whitby prepared a group of children from Years 5 and 6 to take part in “It’s Academic”. The program is being screened at 7am on Channel 72 this week so it may be something you will need to record but quite a few of the team involved are in our present Year 6 so we are encouraging all students and their families to make it compulsory viewing. Well done Miss Whitby on your work in making this presentation possible.
EMILIE’S AMERICA DANCE TRIP On Friday 11 April I will be on a plane to represent my dance school, Exite Dance Co, in California. My dance school and I are going to dance at Disneyland, Universal Studios and California Adventure Park. All of the songs we are dancing to are Australian. There are four dances and I’m in three of them. I can’t wait to perform there.

GET ACTIVE EACH DAY
Encourage fair play Sport and games are a great way for children to learn
about teamwork, rules, winning, losing as well as providing invaluable physical activity. Parents can
encourage fair play by:
Emphasising effort and having fun, not just
winning.
Cheering and acknowledging good play by both teams.
Talking about the game not the result. For more information about encouraging fair play go to
the NSW Sport and Recreation website
www.dsr.nsw.gov.au or phone 131 302.
Our school will be hosting a free parent workshop about “Healthy Eating” in Week 5 on Thursday 29 May form 1:30-3:00pm. It is run by NSW Health
and the Cancer Council.
