INDIGENOUS CAMP / CELEBRATION In week 6 of this term a group of Year 5 and 6 boys, accompanied by Miss Jones and Mr and Mrs Daniel, travelled to Port Macquarie to participate in an Indigenous celebration. The first day we drove around six hours to reach Bonny Hills Beach where we stayed. A great place – lots of good things to do, good beds and good food! After our long drive we were rewarded with an evening of ten pin bowling. Congratulations to Raeidyn Peachey, the overall winner of the day. On Thursday we headed out to Wauchope for our History lesson at Timbertown. Port Macquarie was an early convict settlement, and having excellent forests, the timber industry had its beginnings here. In the afternoon we visited the Koala hospital for our Science lesson. On Friday we were treated to a range of activities including hip hop lessons with ‘Demolitian’ from ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, and a concert by Jessica Mauboy. In the process Raymond Wilkinson and Jase Edwards won T shirts for their participation in the Beat box contest. Of course we all had to have our arms put in plaster although Michael Alberts was the only one who kept it on till we got home ‘just so he could scare his Mum.’

WEEK 8 SUMMER PSSA CHANGES With Year 6 on school camp this week we have had to forfeit Kanga Cricket, Basketball and Softball. The only teams that will play are Opens Cricket with selected Yr 5 Kanga to replace Yr 6, supervised by Mr Arnold and Teeball supervised by Mrs Haberley (girls) and Mrs Chaulk (boys). ONLY the students attending PSSA this week will need to bring their $5.00, a hat and plenty of water as the weather is warming up. PSSA will resume as per usual next week, Week 9.

SPORT NEWS

Towards the end of Term 2 we recognised the sporting achievements of several students in Stage 3 who represented Penrith District at the Sydney West Trials and those who made it to participate at the State Championships. Just when we thought it was all over, there was a late selection for the Sydney West Softball Team. Congratulations to Eliza Murphy who is representing the region in Softball. This is an outstanding achievement and we wish her all the best for the State Championships in Tamworth, Week 10. Congratulations also to Matthew Lalor for being awarded District Senior Boy Champion at the recent District Athletics Carnival. This is a

K-2 FUN DAY Last Wednesday on a beautiful spring day, the K-2 Fun Day was held. It was wonderful to see the children all happily participating in races and activities and cheering on their House Teams. The mums and pre-schoolers were enthusiastic in their races and the ground shook when the dads took to the field. As co-ordinating teacher, I could not have organized this event without the support and exper-tise of the wonderful staff of GPPS. Thank you to everyone for making this such a fun day! Mrs Killeen

wonderful achievement. Best wishes to all the Glenmore Park Athletes attending the Regional Athletics at Homebush on Monday 21st September.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL REPORT

On Wednesday September 2 and Thursday September 3, 48 children travelled by bus to Werrington Oval to represent Glenmore Park at the District Athletics Carnival. The weather was perfect for most of the carnival, except the Thursday afternoon when the rain set in. The relay finals were completed in light showers but the Junior High Jump had to be abandoned for safety reasons. All the children competed with enthusiasm and excellent sportsmanship. There was a strong school spirit with everyone cheering loudly for all our competitors. Many thanks to the parents for coming along and supporting the children over the two days. The following students will represent the Penrith District at the Sydney West Athletics Carnival to be held at The Sydney International Athletics Centre at Olympic Park, Homebush on Monday 21st September. Matthew Lalor , Mitch Haggart, Brandon Tavae, Bryson Besters, Brandon McFall, Spike Teio, Andrew Cotten and Shannon Munaweera. The following students all reached the finals of their respective events: Shay Lee Bent, Bryson Besters, Siyumi Dassanayake, Mitch Haggart, Devan Brown, Shannon Munaweera, Chantelle Cobol, Chelsea Graham, Matthew Lalor, Shane Munaweera and James Saxby. .

MATHLETICS SURVEY This year we have been trialling “Mathletics” in our school to enhance our mathematics program. We are now at the stage of deciding whether to implement the program again in 2010. We would like your feedback on your child’s use of the program. Can you please fill out the survey at the end of this newsletter, add any comments and return it to the office by this Friday the 18th September.

PERFORMING ARTS NEWS In Week 4 of this term, several performing arts groups attended the Penrith Valley Performing Arts Festival. The primary and infants tribal groups and boys hip hop performed excellent routines and were well received by the sold out audience. Our choir joined the combined choir to create a beautiful performance of some dazzling songs. The drama group, who also performed at the Sydney West Drama Festival in Week 3, performed a brilliant piece called “Scuttle” and made our skin crawl by exploring the world of cockroaches. Last Friday evening, our jazz dance group performed at the

Blue Mountains Nepean Dance Festival. The group were performing a piece entitled “Extraterrestrial” where two astronauts are drawn into an eerie alien world. The girls danced beautifully and are proud of all the hard work that they put into learning and perfecting their performance. The boys hip hop and infants tribal dancers performed again yesterday evening and their performance reflected all of their hard work in rehearsals. Mrs Curran

DEBATING NEWS Last Thursday, our debating team competed against Regentville P.S. in round four of the debating competition. Mackenzie, Daniel, Aimee and Chloe worked hard to represent the case “that electronics are ruining our social lives”. Unfortunately our team was defeated by a narrow 6 points but they argued well and made some excellent rebuttals. Our next debate will be “that the media promotes a selfish society” at Luddenham P.S. Mrs Curran
