Len Wein (1948-) EDITOR’S COMMENT EDITOR’S COMMENT Once more I sit at my trusty old AppleMac after returning from our Grand Tour of parts of Australia with two old friends from Blighty. My thanks to Ernie Campbell as once again he picked up the ‘Newsletter baton’ for the November issue. He handed over the reins to me in April 2017, after being The Editor for many years, so no wonder he always makes a great job of it. This has been a very topsy turvy month, with highs and lows, the biggest low being the loss of one of our very popular members, Roy King. Barbara and I had become good friends with him and his, now widow, Pat. Pat has been magnificently brave and courageous during this difficult time in her life and she is determined to continue to be an active member of both Probus and her Gardening Club as this is what Roy would have wanted. Pat would like to pass on her thanks to the Probus membership that sent so many cards of sympathy, the volume was amazing. Being away for 16 days on our tour, I have no Movie Group reviews. The Walking Group was temporarily enlarged by Mick and Jane Cooke, our two friends from England and, hopefully, two new members in Irene and Bill Noble. The Christmas Lights Tour at the end of November was, on the whole, very good. Our thanks go to Christine Brenton for finishing the organising of it, even though she has retired as our Tours Officer. Lunch at O’Donogues was very good, Lunch at Gaels Sports Club was ok, not my most favourite venue, a bit dark and dingey, but both lunches were very enjoyable mainly because of the excellent company :-) Thanks Ernie. Thank you to all the Probus members who came to view ‘The Skatel Greatest Show on Earth’. There were 40 of you in total over the two evenings, I think everybody enjoyed themselves, espe- cially as your seats were actually on the rink! Talk about up close to the action, second night I thought our daughter-in-law was going to end up on David Figg’s lap!!! In contrast, our Christmas Party was a let down, nice venue, good entertainment, shame about the food and lack of Christmas decorations. Our Secretary, Pat Ryan, will be sending a letter to The Management pointing out our complaints, I wouldn’t want to be the recipient of that letter! I am pleased to report that Ann Johnson is back home from hospital after her fall, I am sure that Ernie, her husband, is taking great care of her. Get well soon Ann and hurry back to our meet- ings, we all miss you. It was great to see so many new visitors at last month’s meeting, we hope some of you enjoyed yourselves enough to become members, we have already grown in numbers to the grand total of Eighty! But don’t delay, we have a limit of One Hundred, it’s a waiting list after that. And finally, please forgive me if I have missed anything out, I am still recovering from our 16 day, 6400 kilometre Grand Tour from Sydney to Melbourne, to Tasmania, to Kangaroo Island, via The Great Ocean Road, to Broken Hill and Silverton and home via Dubbo and Orange. What an advert for our Hyundai Santa Fe, it never complained once, thank goodness it runs on diesel! Glen Davis. A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL. No crosswords, jokes etc. this issue, just lots of photographs of

our members enjoying themselves! This is an amazing photo of our entire Membership taken originally by Carole Gregory at our October meeting, thefirst at Penrith RSL Club. Not all were present and some were obscured, so Barbara Davis spent many hours inPhotoshop, adding and moving Members, so that all can be seen. I taught her well! Wish I had her patience. :-)
