Harmony Day
It was fantastic to see so many students in cultural dress or in
orange yesterday to celebrate Harmony Day; a day when
Australians celebrate our cultural diversity. The day is also the
United Nation's International Day for the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination. To support this, we spent the day working in multi
-age groupings completing various activities aimed at celebrating
and embracing our diversity. Our annual shared lunch was also a
huge hit with many yummy plates of food coming in throughout
the morning and many parents joining us for the feast. Thank you
to everyone who contributed to our day either in national dress,
bringing some cultural food or enjoying the buddy activities held.
I’m already looking forward to our 2019 celebrations!
Easter Raffle Thank you to everyone who have returned their sold raffle tickets. We have additional books to be sold if you would like. Please remember there are prizes for the top 3 families who sell the most raffle tickets. The Easter Raffle will be drawn next Wednesday morning. All ticket stubs and money must be returned by 9am Wednesday 28th of March for inclusion in the draw. Earth Hour This Saturday 24th of March from 8:30pm – 9:30pm is Earth Hour; all homes and businesses are asked to turn off their power/lights for the hour. Earth Hour is a worldwide grassroots movement uniting people to protect the planet, and is organised by WWF. Engaging a massive mainstream community on a broad range of environmental issues, Earth Hour was famously started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then it has grown to engage more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide. Visit earthhour.org.au for more information. School Tours & Enrolments
Tours of our wonderful school for families interested in enrolling their child in 2019 have already begun. If you would like a tour, have friends or neighbours who would like a tour please contact the school to book a place. If you have a child due to start in 2019 please complete your enrolment and drop it off at the front office. Should you know of a child due to start school in 2019 please remind their parents to hand in their enrolment forms too. End of Term – Thursday 29th March—1.40pm It’s hard to believe but next Thursday 29th March is the last day of Term 1! At the end of Term 1, 2 and 3 we finish school an hour earlier than usual. With our recess break finishing at 2.15pm our students will actually finish school for the term at 1.40pm. Please ensure that arrangements have been made for your children to be collected early on this day or booked into Kelly Club for After School Care. If you have questions, feedback or are experiencing any difficulties please don’t hesitate to contact either Sam or myself via phone, sending us an email or come and have a chat.

National Day of Action (NDA)
To celebrate Australia’s National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence last Friday, Glengala Primary School held some spe-cial classes and activities for the students. The National Day of Action is a positive day of action, bringing school communities to-gether to help find workable solutions that address bullying and violence. The Foundation students watched a story about Llama Llama and the Bully Goat. We played charades - acting out and guessing different emotions – and made a poster of how we can be a good friend. The Year 1/2 students watched Allen’s Adventures about an alien visiting Earth who is taught how to be a good friend by his classmates. We played charades - acting out and guessing different emotions. We also acted out situations of what to do it some-one is being mean. The Year 3-6 students watched a video about what bullying is and what we can do if we are being bullied. We talked about differ-ent types of bullying, like physical, verbal and social. We also did a group role play for our class about bullying, and made posters protesting bullying. Everyone got a band to wear to remind us to take a stand together and say: “Bullying, No Way!” Laura Esson (Psychologist) and Kirsty Kelly (Speech Pathologist) Allied Health Team
