. Glenelg Catholic Parish 8th December 2019 2nd Sunday of Advent Prepare the way of the Lord In a world threatening to implode upon itself, with war, violence, environmental and financial stresses, it would be easy to throw up ones hands in despair. Stress and depression are reaching epidemic proportions all over the world and feelings of helplessness and anger overflow into anger and violence. So often I hear people bemoaning the world into which they have borne their children. However, we as Christians are called to see past the horrific state of the world acting out of love and faith until a better world, the world we dream of, becomes a reality. We are always called to look forward in hope and faith. Todays first reading speaks deeply into that hope, a world where the poor and afflicted are judged with justice. a world that will be infused with a spirit of wisdom and understanding, of counsel and strength. Our Lord is a Lord of justice and peace, and in todays Gospel we are reminded that we must prepare the way for his coming. We must be a people of faith using our gifts to prepare for this coming. The Gospel tells us that forgiveness is available but we must turn our hearts and lives back to God and he will judge us on the fruits of our lives. It is not enough to be seen to pray, God sees beyond that, he sees into the depths of our hearts and soul. We must in private and in public, follow the path laid out for us, the path where justice and mercy is available to all, not only to the rich and powerful but to any who seek it. Fr John recently asked, in one of his homilies, how has your relationship changed with Jesus since last Advent? That was a tough question to answer. I know in my own life there have definitely been times where I have grown closer in my relationship with Jesus but there have also been times when it has deteriorated. Each and every one of us must strive each day to live life fully alive in faith and love, drawing ever closer to God so that when we come to celebrate the birth of Christ, we do so with joy knowing that we have to the best of our ability prepared the way to his Birth. Prepare the way of the Lord

In a world threatening to implode upon itself, with war, violence, environmental and financial stresses, it would be easy to throw up one’s hands in despair. 2ND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Today’s reading speaks to us of the peace we

may expect with the coming of God’s

Kingdom. And yet there is also an

undertone of violence and retribution in the

Gospel: Matthew 3:1-12

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close

at hand.
