Dear Parents,
Today is Public Education Day. On this day we
celebrate the values, traditions and achievements
of public education in Australia. The day recognises
the learning successes of all students and the
commitment of teachers, staff and parents to the
public education system in Australia.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Australia’s Biggest Morning tea came to Glendale
East today. Our students came out of uniform to
raise money for the Cancer Council. Thank you to
the parents who sent cakes and those who sent
money to support this worthwhile event. With this
great effort we have raised $402.35.
National Partnership Conference
Last Thursday and Friday Mrs Hamilton and I
attended the National Partnership conference for
both public and private schools in NSW. It was
great to hear about the wonderful
accomplishments of the Partnership and
interesting to hear about some of the programs
that have been used in other schools.
Parking Issues
With the wet weather some parents are tempted
to disobey parking laws. Instead of making things
better this actually makes picking up children
more dangerous. Please be really mindful of the
importance of obeying the law around school
grounds. Please also remember that parents must
not park in the staff car park as driving in and out
of the car park is a danger to the students.
Vaccinate against winter bugs
With the cold weather upon us and winter on the
way, now is the time to vaccinate for this year’s flu.
NSW Health recommends the 2011 flu vaccine for
people over six-months old. The 2011 seasonal
influenza vaccine contains (swine flu) pandemic A
(H1N1), seasonal A(H3N2) and B strains. While
these are the same strains used in the 2010
influenza vaccine, people are still encouraged to
receive this year’s vaccine as immunity lasts only
one year. For more information including Q&As go
to www.immunise.health.gov.au or call the
hotline on 1800 671 811.
During this cold wet weather it is very important to
ensure that children have appropriate wet weather
gear, a raincoat or umbrella is essential. It is also a
good idea to have an extra jumper placed in your
child’s bag just in case they get caught in the rain
unexpectedly.
Building advice
We are seeking the advice of parents in the
building trade in order to find the best way to
secure our beautiful rainbow snake on the wall in
the hall. If you are in the trade and can offer some
advice it would be gratefully received. Please
contact the office as soon as convenient.

It’s never too early to book your winter holidays,
especially if you’d like to take your kids to the snow.
The NSW Department of Education and Communities
has weekend family camps on offer, including
Christmas in July and snow holiday packages with
accommodation in Jindabyne. For more info:
www.dsr.nsw.gov.au/camps/getaways.asp . There
are also great kids’ winter camps for children aged 7-
